SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

Due to my interest in all things relating to a post-apocalyptic world, however it comes about, I'm thinking more in line with the excellently depressing Docu-drama Threads.
That's great flick, but to lead to that you need environmental destruction. The Stand is also another option however there the virus mortality was 99%. In The Leftovers some small percentage perished.

Don‘t pay the workers then give them shit, pay the workers and also give them shit. WTF are they meant to do?
It was just meant as a tongue in the cheek joke.

Isn't Osland the bloke who used to shout about his leftist credentials, then the day after the election wrote an article in the Torygraph saying the reason Labour lost was because it was too left wing?
Don't know. All I know about the account is it mostly posts ironic left jokes (Thought it was pretty clear from the tweet).

You posted that on the last page too. There may be some abuse of it if it’s poorly run but I do think you have a bit of a cartoonish impression of ‘fat cat bosses’. Do you even know how it will be distributed?
Yeah I posted it twice but mistake but I than needed to for a piss, so......

Again I think the guy was just joking(If he isn't then yeah off it's a bit of cartoonish impression of ‘fat cat bosses)

I genuinely can’t see how Boris and the UK govt don’t see this and think we’ve got to go into complete lockdown.

Italy’s numbers are fecking insane and we need massive action to ensure we don’t go the same way.

What is the counter argument?

Too late. Ours will be worse.

Don't know. I've seen the account as a ironic joke account.

My bad! Just sick of the doom and gloom and negativity everywhere. This is just so unprecedented that I’m guessing everyone is unsure how to tackle it. One expert says this then another will tweet saying this option will kill millions etc etc.

No wonder toilet rolls are flying off the shelves when reading twitter or even here.

Marche region - by yesterday we’d had 115 deaths, which is relatively high but nothing like Lombardy, which I think is over 2.5k now. It’s central Italy and a fair part of this region is small towns and villages.
Ah. Had the best mussels ever in a place overlooking Ancona harbour in 1976!

Feck, You really think so?? I was kind of hoping that Italy’s were skewed due to age of population or something. Sure I saw @Penna post Something to say c.98% of deaths had pre existing conditions....

I think we have a lot fewer hospital beds.

I am just trying to imagine how different the world will be after this. Somehow I recalled the tv series "The Leftovers"

Even if we end up hitting 2%, it won't be anything like that because the majority of the "departed" would be elderly people, not random 2% of the population.

Feck, You really think so??

Yep. All the stats point that way and the amount of complacency/idiocy I see from the general public. Spent an hour on the phone tonight trying to convince my Dad that this wasn't a drill.

Look at the graphs. Of course the US will ultimately take home the crown. Ignorant public with ignorant leaders. If you're a virus, that's like flies to a turd.

No worries I can see how people would miss read it(Considering I posted it as well).

I'm down to single digits :nervous:

I wonder if this pandemic will have long-term effects on society. More attention towards health & hygiene would be nice.

I think it will be a massive wakeup call that countries have to collaborate on plans well before things like this happen in the future.

I did https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ first entry.

Can you point it out where we are worse than Italy?

We aren't worse than Italy, but we aren't far behind. From memory I think Italy went on lockdown on March 9th so we are at least 3 days ahead of them. I'm not convinced enough people are taking this seriously in the UK though.

We also have a lethal situation brewing in London which could mimic whats happening in Madrid.

What scares me most of all this are the WhatsApps with messages from nurses talking about the situation and how they give up on people over 65 for lack of ventilators ,plus the news of young people who die without having previous pathologies.

In this situation, politicians - once they begin to see the danger - tend to cover their backs, so I'm surprised by Boris Johnson laxity.

So people are scaremongering by saying we are worse? Really don’t want an argument about it but feck me guys people could commit suicide reading some of the shit posted.

Fair enough. I've just been looking at this sort of thing...

And remembering that

a) we've got less hospital beds and less ICU beds per head than Italy

And

b) we're a country full of selfish feckheads and flag waving tossers who think the year is still 1890

Well, if you actually read what doctors and nurses are reporting in the UK then you'll understand why people are nervous. The Government aren't investing in actually attempting to save lives, nor are they taking testing seriously. We are very close to breaking point in London and if that happens, it will be a disaster. Thats not scare mongering, thats a population of 8.9million people with a massive shortage of hospital beds. That's exactly the issue in Madrid, and yet they've got what 2.5million less people?

If it gets bad in London, the numbers will quickly surpass Italy and look more like Spains. But currently we aren't there yet thankfully, but the very genuine concern is that we're on the verge of popping.

Too late. Ours will be worse.

Currently the UK case trendline is below Italy. Thats a fact and better to remember that when people are getting hyped up by political nonsense. I dont know enough about respective demographics and health facilities to talk about death rates.

Italy went into lockdown at 9000 cases, so following that the UK should do the same by the middle of next week.

And Italy are a country who kiss each other if they pass them in the street and live with elderly relatives in the same home. We can all skew arguments to our own narrative but sometimes people just want to look in on a thread and not feel they are on death row by people scaremongering.

Apologies I am probably going a bit over the top but whatever the government does(not saying they are right) there will always be half the country believing it is the wrong way.

Yeah, I’d strongly avoid here if you don’t want negativity or any social media for that matter. This thread works in the same way a thread would work during a terrorist attack. Lots of figures on dead people, lots of fake news, etc..

Erm, have you not seen the shops? Or the streets? Have you not seen the shutdown? I don’t really know what more needs to be done for you to think it’s being taken seriously. Short of people openly having panic attacks in the street, not sure what the next step of ‘taking this seriously is’.

Illinois follows New York and California in issuing shelter order. It seems like matter of time before it gets to my state even though our governor is currently against the idea.

So who is deciding? Are they not qualified for the job? Not talking about BoJo but his advisors and where has he grabbed them from to make decisions?

I am across the sea in Ireland and i am as worried about the UK as i am about Ireland.

I'm in Meath. From Dublin and work in blanch.

I'm so worried as they are attached to us and Boris hasn't given any clear direction.

Clusterfeck

What state is that? I'm in MI and Governor said the same but then they all say that to likely avoid some kind of mad dash to the stores or unnecessary panic building up. It will likely happen either this weekend or right after.

No need to apologise and I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm on a downer but I just think we're generally an ignorant bullish nation about to get a wake up call.

I've been in contact with friends in Italy through this and they were where I am now now a few weeks ago... angry at people not socially distancing themselves and taking it seriously.

Everyone knows our health service will not be able to cope. We had advantages being an island that other nations didn't have and we sat on our hands. We didn't do enough early doors and it's still not enough now. I get that we're trying to build to a lockdown so it's not a shock but I think most sensible people are ready for it. Again, it's the imbeciles holding everyone back.
