Book something with free cancellation until a week up front or something like that. Can't do anything wrong in that case, just cancel freely if it's clear that you won't be going.

No idea on the respirators but I know that the Royal have said they have no more capacity to take COVID patients so all are now going to the Mater - no idea how many beds they have but honestly I doubt it's all that many because there are rarely any beds (or beds but not enough nurses to work them) as it is without all this.
I sit in on beds meetings each week and the pressure to get people moved home is enormous - that was before this because of the normal winter pressures. We don't have enough capacity to keep people in wards for longer than absolutely necessary so I honestly have no clue how they are going to manage when this properly kicks off.
Germany has only reported 2 deaths - their healthcare system must be incredible.
How are rugby clubs in such a bad financial situation? Do they pay massive wages?

Except for the fact that it keeps growing everyday. I don't see how this doesn't follow the Italian trend. The rate of infections per tests in also narrowing - shows we aren't testing nearly enough given that its estimated that this virus as transmission rate of 1:3. Given that we already have almost 400 cases, is it implausible to assume we may already have 1200?
I'm not sure but it just shows you the economic impact of this when seemingly established sports clubs are in danger of going out of business. Imagine how many small businesses in UK will go under. This is a disaster.
They know its growing though and they are waiting to push the button, its no surprise to them they are doing exactly what they said it will spread but it will be in a more controlled fashion we have accepted this is not gonna be stamped out completely its basically by the book.

The Italians up until a couple of days ago weren't really taking things seriously. Nobody was paying any attention to advice and plenty were still travelling around like normal, some were even sneaking out of red zones to go on holiday. Now people are getting genuinely worried. It took a couple of days to get going but now everything is closed and the streets are deserted. I think/hope in a week or so we will start to see the cases drop. The measures taken are as strong as anywhere in the world, the government has effectively closed the whole country for an entire month. If they don't work, there is nothing that will be tolerable to Western countries that will.
That's been reported in Spain today, not sure about elsewhere; if you look at El Pais, they have diagrams and shit showing how and why they (the Chinese researchers) arrived at the numbers.

I know this is of no help, but here in Spain, if you call the equivalent of the not 999 number in the UK and have symptoms, they send you a home test kit.
Regarding the amount tested.
Italy was 23/24k tested as of a week ago (2nd-3rd of March) with 2500 cases and 79 deaths on their hands, that's a 10/11% positivity rate.
UK 9th of March 24,641 tested 319 positive (1.3%) 5 deaths .
For the low key situation UK has been in for the last two weeks UK done a decent amount of testing.
Since the lockdown Italy has tested about 25k more, up to 49k.
The situation is a lot different, Italy is a hot spot and we're not simply lagging behind a days, if we were then we'd be on around 2000 cases and 70 deaths or if you want to stretch it to a two week lag we'd have to be on around a 1000 cases and 40 odd dead.
Spain and France has some serious looking numbers, UK might follow suit soon, I'm not saying we won't be but we're not simply lagging by few days or week or two weeks. Spain and France are with around 1500 cases and 35 deaths each.

They will need to reopen most of the city hospital which isn't being used. Of course, it would probably cost a few million just to clean the unused corridors.
