And lots of Italians smoke, and whilst it's traditional for an 80yr old bloke in the UK to sit at home watching Cash in the Attic, in Italy they're all sitting around the same table in the local cafe. The women do that far less.
I have also seen that it could be something to do with the increased estrogen levels in women and how that alters your immune response.
Higher than the Spanish flu. I'd say mortality rate is terrifying at this stage. I'd imagine it will spike further still when the health system will get completely overwhelmed.

It killed a lot of young people because a disproportionate amount were infected whilst coming back from war irrc. Presumably there would have been a lot of malnutrition, compromised immune systems?

In the Joe Rogan podcast with Michael Osterholm something that hasn't been really talked about came up is how obese people could be extremely vulnerable to this. With the numbers rapidly increasing across the USA now and a high rate of obesity it could be a lot more dangerous in the states.
Their cases are accelerating even faster than Italy's did, as is the US.
Although Italy may have a huge spike today as yesterday's numbers were not complete.
It's likely that Spain's increases are more dramatic as they're being pretty proactive with regard to testing - to the point that as far as I am aware, they mail you a testing kit once you've spoken to the helpline about your symptoms. That said, I haven't seen any concrete numbers as to how many tests are being carried out daily.
At the moment, in the south, life appears to be continuing as normal but it will not be long I fear before more drastic measures are brought into play. Luckily I don't need to go out for the foreseeable, having got a big shop delivered last week and others bits and pieces sorted yesterday.

China has high obesity rates - comparable to the US - in the cities, of which Wuhan is one.
Morbidly obese, that's another story.

Only 57 new cases for Germany today - wonder what measures they have in place.
I’ve got diarrhea today and the sweats (but not feverish). No other symptoms other than a dryish mouth and occasional sneeze.
My wife is at work and texted to say she feels dizzy and nauseous
Is dizziness a symptom? I was dizzy on Monday along with a fever but I didn’t know if I was imagining it.
Edit: Can see now it’s not. Going to ring 111 now. 3 hospitals local to me have a confirmed case(s) I believe.

I shared a blog earlier on in this thread from an American ITU physician who said obesity is the main comorbidity they're seeing in all their critical cases.
He obviously isn't aware of the UK Tory Government's discovery that it's actually dangerous to implement swift proactive measures to save people's lives...

In any case, I wouldn't dare spread false information intentionally.
Probably because obesity itself causes a number of knock on/crossover health issues like high blood pressure, higher risk of inflammation and it's more taxing on the immune system.

Simplified explanation:
The fat isn't just 'in your gut' or 'moobs' etc.
All your trillions of little cells on their way to do a job, to make a delivery, etc, have to do extra work to get around something they are not really designed to have to get around.
Some don't get to where they're trying to go or get the job done right. Errors accumulate and compound. Huff puff, gotta go back and fix that now. Oh God still didn't get it right. Okay one more shot...
It's basically literally extra work.
Especially on certain systems and really especially on the heart.
Then if one gets sick, which demands even more work...
Fat people have to work harder, physically, to breathe. More meat to shift with each breath in and out. So they're going to tip into resp failure quicker than skinny people.
Plus being obese is mixed up with all the other important comorbidities, heart disease, diabetes etc

I'm alright, I did two hours of badminton last night and again this morning. My respiratory system is fecking fantastic.
Oh Man, I've been holding off going to the gym since this escalated because it seems like a prime spot for superspreaders but now i'm thinking I should go...not that im obese but being fit and active seems like a good state to be in.
I'll go for a swim and a sauna that seems like a safer option
