The difference with my family is that I can openly call them out on their shit whereas I need to be more passive aggressive in voicing my displeasure with the in laws

tbh, I like my in laws but we are awkward bedfellows in many ways - I come from a working class background and a family with liberal, socialist values, whereas they are very wealthy with a strong conservative leaning and a to hell with everyone else sort of attitude
 
When are gas and electric bills going to be frozen, if everyone is at home they will be making a killing and that annoys me a lot.

He's been brought up on war movies and anniversary bunting.

Take a look at any classic British war movies of the 40s/50s - and you'll see the Spitfire pilots in the pub after a tour of duty. The plucky bombed out citizens having a singalong in the boozer before heading back down to the air raid shelter.

Like Brexit it appeals to a nostalgia about a time they didn't live but remember fondly as the stuff of childhood dreams of heroism and stoic resilience. The war rhetoric used by some of the politicians makes them want to join in a rousing chorus of "We'll meet again" - it would be comical if it wasn't so dangerous.

Theyll be losing on the business' electric though so id imagine theyd end up so what status quo.

But to your point, yea they should help out some way they can as well with a reduction in cost or something

They shut the doors and only allow a reasonable number of people in the shop at any one time. When a few leave, they let a few more in.

Toilet roll, baked beans (one of the only things my five year old will eat), antibacterial spray/wipes are all like gold dust in the UK.

Alcohol will be the next thing that will be hard to find with the pubs closing here.

Holiday homes in Anglesey are all full , People coming from all over the country , it really pisses me off . People in the UK are arrogant, self centred cnuts .

There was a big reduction in choice yesterday in my local Sainsbury's. They would probably be empty if I went in today to look.

I’ve seen loads of people say Boris has done an amazing job. Has he? Ok he’s apparently helped a load of businesses. Is that amazing? He’s made sure a massive amount of people actually have a job and don’t go homeless, but that’s not what you’d expect at the bare minimum?

People will change their tune in two weeks when the death numbers sky rocket. People are failing to grasp there's a lag to the reporting and that his useless inaction has cost lives.

I was a bit loathed to post this, I disagree with ANY sort of anonymous briefing from government in a criss such as this, good or bad, it should all be on record so everyone is accountable.

However, wickham at buzzfeed has broke some important stories recently and this may be another.
 
Austria is probably worth a mention. Their death rate is even lower than Germany's (0.23%) and they had fewer new infections yesterday than the day before (although that is not a trend yet and could just be a conincidence). They were very quick to enforce drastic measures. Chancellor Kurz is hoping to slowly get back to normal after Easter.

Hmmm can't see that working here. Plus people would just been hanging about in large groups outside. I'm just hoping the panic buyers and hoarders have what they need soon and leave the rest of us to shop normally.

Well yes, I need to know what era to pick songs from so I don't get it wrong. It can't possibly be Thatcher's and Blair is even more hated than she is nowadays, amongst the left at any rate. Maybe the 60s? Summer of love stuff. Good times, apart from the racism and sexism and that.
 
Shopping centres/Malls in the UK are still open. I have skin in the game as an operator of a food unit but from a virus transmission point of view I am not impressed either.

Demand/footfall is massively reduced but still how many thousands will be at the trafford centre today? Staff and customers spreading transmitting. Food courts are just removing the seating area and acting as normal with just takeouts.

In Portugal they banned cutting of essential services. So I guess most skint people will simply not pay.
 
Just had the news one of my mates has lost a loved one and another has a friend in their late 20s on oxygen. Starting to feel a bit more real

Got a letter from SSE Airtricity the other day saying gas prices are being reduced by 18.7% from April.

Problem we have in our shopping centre is we have a Boots pharmacy, Sainsbury’s, 2 pound shop and a BnM. I assume once all shops have to close, the shops I mentioned won’t as they’re essential. Curious how they handle stuff like this, what happens if a shopping centre has just 1 of those shops, so they open it for that one?

It's the same in Ireland now. You queue up outside 2m apart and they only let a certain number in. They hand out plastic gloves when you get your trolley in some places.

The panic has died down here now and the shelves are mostly full. I think the only thing we couldn't get today was flour which was annoying as we were hoping to get some baking done during the week to keep us all entertained.

I was reading an article on how bad it could get in New York. I've been mainly concentrating on the UK and Europe in all of this, so America was a bit of a blind spot (obviously i knew some of what was happening out there as it's pretty hard to avoid). But after reading that, it sounds like things could be pretty horrific out there. There's a feeling that they have left it way too late in the City, and it could catch up with them in the next week or two.

Not sure how true all this is.
