SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

Bollocks. It’s an absolute cop out by tossers itching to use any excuse to not obey the guidance. And before you start I am not saying that certain members of the government deserve anything other than prosecuting. But then so does everyone who deliberately breaks the rules without damned good reason.

I suppose if Cummings went and jumped under a train according to your view it would be a signal for everyone else to do the same. You say that the messaging has been terrible throughout. Thats an admission if ever I heard one that you knew better as has the rest of the population So to use it as an excuse is pathetic. To try to suggest that appalling behaviour of a substantial number of people is down to ’I shook hands with everyone’ or ‘Its just like flu’. makes them as moronic and imbecilic as the person making those assertions.

Rant over.
It's much more than Cummings. Even the revised slogan was unclear.
Mixed messages on masks while other countries used them and had much lower rates of infection.
Late lockdown.
Boris suggesting that one nation (the UK) could stay open, like an economic superhero, and benefit financially while other countries are in lockdown.
Herd immunity.
No figures released on the number of people tested for 6 weeks now, prior to which the government had never met their own 100k target.
The failed and expensive attempt at a uk track and trace app while other countries now are efficiently using the industry standard track and trace app.
The list is endless.

I think that's his point - that the government is inept and we, as citizens, should do better than them.

Precisely. When anything is said regarding people flagrantly disregarding advice big time on this forum the stock response is ‘Its all the Tories fault that the rules are being ignored’. It’s like children chiming ‘ it’s not my fault mum....he/she did it first’ when the truth is how many folk can really say that they have never heard of the need to ’social distance’ or ’wash your hands regularly’......but nah sod that for a game of soldiers.

Certainly the government should be held to account but their stupidity should in no way make it OK for the general public to act even more stupidly which is what they are currently doing.

But the point is that people are this stupid. Governments have the responisibility, in such an extreme case as this at least, to pass effective laws and issue effective guidelines to mitigate that stupidty. Other countires have done, with varying levels of success. We are among the worst.

763 last week
675 this week

Lower but quite a big number for Friday and cases back in the 1000+ for two days now

here’s where I’m at

It’s beyond irritating when you see crowds like the ones on beaches, out celebrating whatever, milling around without a mask in sight. These are the people who don’t have the mental fortitude to do what’s needed, these are the ones bending the will of the government from properly following the science and yet ironically these people’s actions will lead to longer lockdowns for the vulnerable or old.

You all know my health circumstances from threads here, been cocooning since the day the schools closed here, with my wife and 2 young kids. Though we do have a garden and take the kids to the park a few mornings at 7am before everyone else to see the duckThankfully my eldest kids school have been great, great online resources, great class zooms, teachers checking in every day and great support for the teachers. My youngest one missed out on the last 3 months of his pre-schooling and they’ve been rubbish, no resources, no contact. I worry more about the social aspect rather than educational for him though. He’s developed a couple of ocd type ticks in the last few months which could be anxiety related.

my mum is in a dementia care home up north and hasn’t had any visitors in 2 months as they are on lockdown.
my eldest brother passed away a couple of weeks ago from a heart attack. We weren’t able to get up for the funeral and off course my mum couldn’t attend either. I’m really keen to get up and at least see the grave and say goodbye. No, I cant drive so it would be public transport for around 6 hours in the day to get there, and no hotel to stay in.
We haven’t seen my wife’s elderly parents since lockdown, they’re in England.
My wife and I are just about holding together at the moment. We are starting to get on each other’s nerves I think. The only time I get a bit of “me” space is in the bathroom

So yeah the morons are beyond irritating. Selfish self serving wankers.

sorry for the rant, having a couple of low days.
I’m so sorry geebs :(

2,000 people according to police. A big majority of the 2,000 were probably the same people complaining about people at Bournemouth beach, and protests in London over the past couple of weeks, but because it's the first time in 30 years they'll happily forget about the last 3 months.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say, no, they probably weren't the same people. Why must we look for hypocrisy everywhere? Looking at the crowd it seems like it's made up of the type of people who don't give a shit about anything but themselves. No doubt thousands more Liverpool fans who would love to be out on the town celebrating stayed at home. Any group of people that come together for a common cause, whether a football club or a protest is a diverse, mixed bag, and I think people need to remember this.

And as DeSantis isn't doing anything:

1000+ daily cases again now, second day in a row.
186 died too which struck me as high.

A vaccine that works can't come quick enough

Are the pubs and bars going to have toilets available for their customers? If not, it's going to be disgusting near any pub/bar because mofos will be pissing in the street

So sorry to hear about your brother mate. May he rest in peace.

Don’t apologise for the rant either. It sounds like you have been through a hell of a time. It’s important to vent your anger/frustrations rather than suppress them.

Thanks mate. I’m just having a bad day, very irritable last night and continuing today.

So Boris is now blaming too many people for going out despite him telling people to go out?

The US will take a long, long time to recover from this.

Jaysus. The streets of Dublin city centre are thronged with people drinking pints tonight. God helps us when they’re all allowed indoors.

Was just thinking, though. We’re in an unusually well informed echo chamber in here. We‘re calling people selfish for congregating together again as soon as they can but maybe they just don’t know any better? I know one or two, well educated people, who just assumed that now we’re over the worst of it the virus has basically been beaten. It’s only good news from here. I’m sure that’s the mentality of a lot of people boozing it up on the streets tonight.

I go to the pub every night usually or I did anyway. There is no way I am going there for some time, maybe even not again this year.

I can’t see it like that, you’re almost excusing selfishness and idiocy. Who would actually think like that? Even if you don’t read or watch the news this is everywhere.

Im sticking with my blanket explanation of stupidity and selfishness. Makes me feel better

We have been allowed indoors for the last four weeks. Actually almost five. Pubs are crowded, restaurants are full. We haven’t got any spike in cases or deaths. The longer it carries on the harder people will find it to buy into any further restrictions. Could either be a disaster come Autumn, or maybe it’s just going to ease down the way it has for the last month or so.

1588 new cases in France, that's a massive jump compared to the rest of June.

I was at, or I was supposed to go to, my favourite pub last weekend for the first time in months. We were politely stopped at the door, being told that the pub was full, under these new circumstances. There were hardly anyone inside, and this pub is usually packed, so they took the distancing rules very seriously.
I was impressed.

Went to my 2nd favourite instead, which were close to empty as usual.

Down in part to how, when and where you consume your news.

As someone who is shielding, I've watched the daily briefings, checked this thread and kept up with the latest information on treatment, statistics and patient experiences (however harrowing) from across multiple sources.

Doing all of this has kept me sober. Sober to the risks. Sober to the reality that we're in this for the long haul. It has kept me vigilant without leaving me feeling overwhelmed.

Many others will have viewed this pandemic through a different, less well-informed lens.

It's the short-sightedness that gets me. The failure to recognise that our individual actions have collective consequences. Has this honestly not been successfully communicated to people or do they just not care enough to want to curb their normal life any longer for the safety of others?

I really want to go back don't get me wrong but if I don't feel I can relax then there is no point. Am doing ok holed up at the moment.

Yeah, I hear you.
I’ve thought the exact same thing, but since things have been going very well here in Norway I felt the time was right.
Still not ready for an all-nighter at the pub though.
