I have one principal, if you find something in London it's in Paris and vice versa. There are too much transit between these two cities to think otherwise. If they think that the UK are that much of a risk than it should apply to France.

It will 100000% imo be 1st jan.
They have told us the new virus is very contagious, they understand this so if they were super bothered about a lockdown they'd do it.
They're preparing for a full lockdown type model until March according to reports.
Between Xmas day and the 30th December update, they will give time for people to get back to their homes because that's where they want everyone to be for lockdown. During that time the Oxford vaccine will be ready to roll out.
So on December 30th he will announce a lockdown on 1st January subject to review every so often.
I really hope (selfishly) India and co reopen flights. But like you, I am not sure what the purpose of this is or how it will end.
India for example are only allowing in citizens/OCI holders, no tourists. To enter, you need a PCR test and potentially quarantine. It's already quite strict entry, so to what end are they doing this ban? What is the criteria for it to be lifted? Do they need our numbers to drop or is this a permanent thing for who knows how long?
I fear it's for the long haul because otherwise this 2 week ban is nothing short of a token gesture and I can't imagine they would. They already have enough checks to go to their countries. I understood Europe doing it as there is no such restrictions, but India, Middle East, other parts of Asia etc. make no sense
