They don't seem to flag changes ahead of time.

They do allow approved rapid tests as long as not self administered. When my son went back to Uni we got a test at the airport which came back in 30 mins and the cost was only AU$79 - would have been $59 but we had to get a PCR test to transit through Fiji.

There may be similar facilities at UK airports I'd guess.
 
Just finishing up my first (known) experience with it. My wife had it a couple of weeks ago and then along came a mild sore throat, lingering nasal congestion, and a faint positive line on an antigen test.

Both of us are triple jabbed but she is heavily pregnant which bumps her immune system down a notch or three, she was in bed sweating/shivering for 2 or 3 days. I'd describe my symptoms as an annoyance more than anything else.

All of that doesn't alter the fact that another 439 people have died and their death has been attributed to COVID 19 in line with the way such deaths have been classified.

So NZ has now moved to our strictest settings in our covid restrictions. Which compared to before are not too bad for those vaccinated. A bunch of people have the Omicron variant in the Nelson Bays region where I am about to head for 2 weeks kayaking and hiking later this week. Im expecting when we emerge from the wilderness in the 2nd week of Feb for NZ to have 500-1000 cases per day. Rather a surreal feeling here as NZ finally enters what the rest of the world has been experiencing. We have been living in a cocoon for ages so this is going to be a rude awakening for a lot of us.

Look. I am not the one who publishes the COVID data. But the fact is that these 439 deaths were published after the lifting of the restrictions.

No, but you're assuming that all 439 has happened in the last 24hrs and you're struggle to separate deaths from and death with covid. Incidental covid is impacting those numbers and no restrictions will stop that, unless you want to close hospitals.

There's also deaths in today's figure where the individuals died on the 3rd & 9th of January, are those ones ok as they were before the lifting of restrictions? There's also a large proportion in there which are probably unvaccinated individuals, for the deaths which are from covid.

Yep triple jabbed for me. However we are only just ramping up our triple jabs because we were later than everyone to starting the vaccination process. I get the impression that even when vaccinated people are still catching Omicron although the majority of cases its relatively mild.
The issue Im seeing already is that we will see lots of people off work which will have an impact on services. With respect to my situation I have had a lot of clients postpone work in anticipation of this. I think I may have a tougher year financially this year because of this sort of thing.

I had stopped following this thread but posting this here to show humanity is coming to an end. Look at some of the replies. I have zero faith in humanity, am extremely cynical like that, so this should not surprise me but still.

I’ve listened to a few of Attia’s podcast and he generally came across as a smart/interesting guy. Shame to see him getting sucked into partisan grifting like this. It really does seem impossible to have any kind of high public profile without nailing your colours to one side or other in the culture war. Depressing.

1pm - positive nose/throat LFT
1:30pm - negative nose only LFT (did this after realising the instructions mention nose only)
2pm - PCR test

Today
PCR test negative
Flu symptoms
Positive - nose/throat LFT

Bit confused what to do:smirk: Anyone else had inconsistencies with throat/nose?

Behave as though you have covid. The chance of you not having covid is small enough that it doesn’t matter. Plus the way you should behave with covid is now more or less the same as the way you should behave with any other similar illness.

Interesting finding regarding the reinfection. Funnily, my family have been all boosted just a short while ago and they all succumbed to Covid recently (thankfully they’re now recovered), and despite sharing everything with then as normal it didn’t get to me, only difference being I had covid in May (in between my two doses).

Similar experience to me. I was doing normal nasal LFTs for a few days when my wife caught it and they were all negative. I've read in a few places that Omicron often shows up in the throat well before it gets to the nose, if it makes it there at all, so when I started to feel a bit off so I stuck the swab down my throat too. Positive.

I don't know Atria but hard to believe a smart physician is talking like that.

In fact any physician who would support that take by default is not smart. Unless of course you are grifting.

I tested positive on an LFT yesterday after waking up and feeling ill. Symptoms yesterday were a dry throat and chest, slight cough, blocked nose, head ache, body aches and shivers. Fell asleep on the sofa at 8pm last night, woke 3 hours later and felt much better.
Today, apart from an occasional cough, I feel fine. Still getting a very strong positive on LFTs which is to be expected.

My husband and two adult sons, one of whom is a teacher and has 9 kids in his tutor group off with it, have so far all tested negative. I’d have been infectious before the symptoms started and less than 12 hours before I tested we all sat around the table and ate the dinner I’d cooked.

I go the least places yet I’m the first of the family to get this.
 
I recovered from COVID three weeks back. Do I still need to isolate if I was in close contact with someone who has tested positive? From what I understand, my recent immunity should protect me. But I'm not sure if I can still spread it to others?
 
my 6 year old tested positive this morning

He had a temperature at 8am and was a bit drowsy.

So I gave him calpol - did the antigen and its positive

He was back to himself at 9am - now hes down stairs playing pirates swinging out of the furniture singing "celebrate good times" as he is off school!!
Keeps eating! Not a sign of illness

It depends where you are. If you’re in the UK and fully vaccinated then you don’t have to isolate but you need to test with a lateral flow test daily for at least seven days. There’s nothing in the guidance about natural immunity.

Interestingly my husband started with symptoms last night (sore throat and headache) so did a test with a nasal swab (we only have tests requiring nasal swabs now) which was negative. He felt worse this morning so tested again. Still negative. It didn’t seem right seeing as I’m positive so he tested again but this time he swabbed his throat rather than his nose and got an immediate strong positive.
Had he not done that he’d have written it off as just a cold and gone into work.

Obviously it wasn't covid, but knowing that I was avoiding school because of fever cured me so many times :lol:
