I have no idea of reliability however this guy, who is verified on twitter, claims a deal for "a Saudi invester" to buy United was agreed yesterday.

Mods - I checked and all the other threads were locked.

random nobody pots a thing onine, so it is now newsworthy enough to be a thread.

Moaid Mahjoub continues to grow his expertise in Public Relations in his new role as Director of External Relations for the Private Office of His Royal Highness Dr. AbdulAziz bin AbdulRahman bin AbdulAziz Al Saud, Saudi Arabia
- LinkedIn

Lots of smoke around this at the minute

Manchester United are a publicly traded company, if something like that would have happen, a much mpre reliable source would have picked the story up already.

110,000 followers isn't bad for a nobody. The thread title is clickbaity though.
100,000 followers and most of his stuff barely makes 5 retweets or likes or comments. Immediately suspect.

Could it not hablve come just after shaking hands and making it official?
Not saying I believe this but it wouldnt be unrealistic to see a leak from their end as soon as discussions are completed.
Also saw the governement have jad a fallen out with WWE and are litetally holding them hostage refusing to let them go home so feck this story.

This probably sums it up. On another note, before the club gets sold to a sole owner, how is the share price set for the various investors who own the public traded shares?

Smells like fake news to me, isn't this a process that should normally take months to conclude and shouldn't there be some cautionary announcement to the Stock Exchange?

For extra context, both Duncan Castles and Ian McGary claimed on their 'Transfer Window' podcast a few weeks ago that Manchester United officials were meeting with Saudi representatives over a potential takeover of the club. They also claimed the Glazer family appear to be more open to the idea so it's interesting that this claim is being made almost in parallel to their information also.

Don't want to break the giddy meter just yet but can confirm Nico Gaitan will be announced tomorrow(Saturday), the takeover on the Sunday, Wayne Rooney will get a job as a specialist fitness coach and David Moyes will take over from the retiring Fred the Red.

More later, much later

Someone could buy everything the Glazers own and the shares on the market would still be shares on the market, they have almost no voting power at all. Their value would be set by the market just as it is today.

You forgot Vangle as DOF.

Not if it is simply an agreement in principle to buy enough controlling stock from the Glazers.

Understand that but isn't the controlling stake of the club owned by the Glazers in some funny classification of shares? If so isn't it possible for the Glazers to sell those controlling shares which arent traded on the Stock Market? Fully expect a club statement pouring water over this though but there is too much smoke around this for there not to be something happening.

The story doesn't pass the smell test and the fact that nobody else has published anything related to this in the 17 hours since his LinkedIn post, also tends to indicate that there's nothing to it.

Watch this space, I suppose...

Just for those interested, the WWE (Formally the WWF of Hulk Hogan and The Rock fame) had a show in Saudi last night. Currently the wrestlers are all stuck in the country not allowed on their phones as rumours swirl that some of them have broken the archaic laws. They finally allowed women to wrestle, (the Muslim wrestlers had to stay at home) albeit the women weren’t allowed to show any skin and had bottles thrown at them.

Perhaps but I dont see what would the Saudis gain by leaking this ahead of the deal actually being done.

Sounds like the type of people we need using us as a PR machine.

There's an Iron Sheik joke in there somewhere, I just know it...

It’s bullshit

Even if it had a small chance of being true, it would be all over social media with many media outlets having picked up on the story by now.

I, for one, welcome our new Saudi overlords.

Is this true or just wumminating?

Random person with some bs claim.. but wait. It's on linkedin instead of twitter. Must be true.

Richard Arnold met with Saudi delegates yesterday. I saw various news articles on that

The only one I’d seen reporting it was the scum that is The Sun.

If The Sun said it was raining, I’d still look out my front window and see if it is or not.
