Have I got all that right? First matchday thread :nervous:

I'm hoping Chicharito and Macheda start, although in reality I know Owen will get the minutes.

Fergie has said Owen will start. I hope we'll line up something like:

Kuszczak
Rafael Brown Smalling Fabio
Bebe Gibson Anderson Obertan
Macheda Owen

or something like that.

Would like to see:

---------------------- KUSZCZAK -----------------------
RAFAEL ------ VIDIC --------- SMALLING ------ FABIO
BEBE ------- GIBSON ------- ANDERSON --- OBERTAN
-------------- HERNANDEZ --- MACHEDA --------------

Scunthorpe United

(Just doing this off basic info from Wiki and BBC; apologies if it seems a little misguided!)

Scunthorpe go into this game off the back of a 2-0 away defeat to Swansea and are currently 15th in the Championship. They are currently managerless with Nigel Adkins agreeing a move to Southampton; manager or not, you cannot argue with one of their better results this season - a thumping 4-0 win away to Sheffield United, though their form has been somewhat mixed.

Last 5 games in the Championship:

Swansea 2-0 Scunthorpe
Sheff Utd 0-4 Scunthorpe
Scunthorpe 0-2 Bristol City
Scunthorpe 3-0 Crystal Palace
QPR 2-0 Scunthorpe

Their home form isn't great - save for the 3-0 drubbing of Palace - but the general consensus I've gathered from various Scunthorpe forums is that they are happy with their season's start.

This season in the Carling Cup:

Second Round - Scunthorpe 4-2 Sheff Weds
First Round - Scunthorpe 2-1 Oldham

Players to watch?
Scunthorpe's top scorer so far is striker Chris Dagnall, who has netted 4 times this season - twice in the Carling Cup. Their 'shots' chart is lead by Jonathan Forte with 15 shots on target, with Dagnall a close second with 10.

Prediction (based entirely on nothing)

Scunthorpe 1-3 United

------------PIG------------
Rafael----Rio--Smalling---Fabio
Obertan--Anderson--Gibson--Park
--------Owen---Macheda----

I hope Hernandez starts with Kiko, but SAF has already stated Owen will start. Might get to see Bebe play, doubt he will start though.

--------Raf Rio Brown Fab
Obertan-Gibson-Ando-Hernandez
----Kiko-----------Owen-------

Kuszczak
Rafael Brown Smalling Fabio
Bebe Gibson Anderson Obertan
Macheda Owen

Something like this, yeah. Would like to see Hernandez get on as well.

Will Bebe be unleashed? I reckon he'll start on the bench.

Too early to think Bebe might feature?

The Carling Cups been good to us over the last couple of years, would be good to win it again. Prediction 3-1. Good game to get the flow going after our tough start to the season.

These are the games you can enjoy as fan, without much pressure

Good shout - totally forgot about him.

Park and Owen are the two senior players who I struggle to know how we can fit them in at the moment.

Both will play against Scunthorpe. I suspect Park's role has been heightend given Valencia's injury.

------------------PIG-------------------
Rafael------Brown----Smalling------Fabio
Park------Anderson----Gibson----Obertan
------------Macheda---Owen------------

Subs: Amos, De Laet, Gill, C.Evans, Eikrem, Bebe, Hernandez.

This is what we could possibly see. Or, Neville might be involved somehow maybe.

The past few seasons I've got myself really excited for the early rounds of the Carling Cup.

I'd like to see:

----------------PIG------------

Rafael--Rio/Brown--Smalling---Fabio

Obertan--Anderson--Gibson----Park

------Hernandez---Macheda

It'd also be good to see Bebe and maybe even Morrison

There's a few players that I expect to start because they need the minutes.

Kuszczak, Neville, Brown, Da Silvas, Smalling, Gibson, Park, Anderson, Obertan and Owen. Therefor I expect we'll line up something like:

Kuszczak
Rafael Smalling Brown Fabio
Park Gibson Anderson Obertan
Macheda Owen

Dunno how to fit Neville in.

I actually fancy it to be one of those nights. I wouldnt be surprised to see us go out.

Feels like I'm looking at one of our Champions League group stage lineups

---------------------- KUSZCZAK -----------------------
RAFAEL ------ FERDINAND--------- SMALLING ------ FABIO
BEBE ------- GIBSON ------- ANDERSON --- OBERTAN

Maybe even start with Rooney - a goal or two certainly wouldn't do his confidence any harm.

Team should be.....

GK: PIG

RB: Brown
CB: Ferdinand
CB: Smalling
LB: Fabio

RM: Rafael
CM: Gibson
CM: Anderson
LM: Park

CF: Owen
CF: Macheda

Subs, Amos, Neville, Hernandez, ?, ?, ?, ?

Is Obertan even fit?

Yeh. He played for the reserves in midweek.

I would like to see Hernandez, Macheda, Obertan, Bebe and Rafael get some game time. Not sure if that will happen though. We got a reserves game tomorrow so should have a better idea.

PIG

Rafael
Smalling
Brown
Fabio

Obertan
Gibson
Anderson
Bebe

Macheda
Owen

I'd like to see Corry Evans get a game too.

I don't think Bebe will get a game but I don't see why the rest won't get any game time.

We need to progress-it's vital for the development of the youngsters. It really pissed me off vs Leeds this year and vs Southend a couple of years ago when we didn't take that chance

--------------------PIG---------------------

Rafael-------Smalling----Evans---------Fabio

Bebe--------Anderson---Gibson-------Obertan

--- Chicarito/Owen-------Macheda------------

I hope Ferguson plays Owen and Hernandez

Yeah same here, hoping for:

--------------------------Pig--------------------------
Rafael--------Smalling-----------Rio-------------De Laet
----------------Anderson---Gibson---------------------
Park--------------------------------------------Obertan
------------------Owen----Hernandez------------------

Subs: Amos, Fabio, Brown, C.Evans, Bebe, Macheda, Cofie

Most likely younger players to feature (probably on the bench) - Eikrem and Evans with the outside chance of Will Keane. De Laet should also be involved.

I think Ferdinand might play if he recovers from his illness as he needs the game time.

If King got a sub appearance at a similar stage last season, then I expect Will Keane to make the bench. I hope De Laet plays at full-back, though I understand the wisdom of playing both of the twins.

Would love to see Eikrem.

i'd play Rooney myself for an hour anyways, he needs games and its early enough in the season not to worry about fatigue.

PIG
Rafael Rio Smalling Fabio
Obertan Gibson Ando
Kiko Owen Rooney

would be nice to see Bebe but i doubt he'll feature

0-4
Rooney, Kiko, Gibson, Obertan

------PIG--------
Rafael-Brown-Smalling-Fabio
Obertan-Gibson-Ando-Park
---Macheda--Owen----

I'd play Hernandez instead of Owen, but Fergie already said Owen will start. Bebe might come on for Obertan later in the game

This with Ferdinand on the bench with De Laet, Neville, Amos, Hernandez, Park and Corry Evans.
