Seattle Sounders vs Manchester United - Pre-season Friendly

Newly-acquired defender Ashley Cole looked good for Manchester United. Cole even played a role in the first goal of the game, feeding Patrice Evra, who crossed the ball nicely for Michael Owens to nod it in.

Very interesting indeed :p

Impressions from watching this live: In the first half, Seattle were able to get into good positions in the final third, but their finishing was absolutely dreadful. 30+ yard shots, crosses to nowhere, etc. Giggs/Anderson is not a MF pairing I ever want to see against a top-flight team. When we were on the attack, in the first 30-40 minutes, their defense was quite solid in getting the ball out of there. Really, the only solid chance in the first 40 minutes we had was Owen's Header. We were able to create some more chances before the half ended, but when we could get past the defense, Keller was able to make the save. Thought both Nanfael and Ashvra had a fair amount of threatening play on the wings.

The Seattle reserves, of course, didn't do nearly so well. They got picked apart defensively, and without a solid keeper like Keller, couldn't do much to keep us out of the net.

Excal! Where did you end up drinking before the game? I met up with the Seattle Red Army, good lads and the banter was fun. I noticed some Mancunian Reds giving Yank united fans a bit of stick which was unnecessary.

Qwest field is an awesome stadium, I can imagine how the atmosphere there during Seahawks games can get intimidating . Sounders fans have numbers, but besides that one section behind the goal, there wasn't too much noise. Supporters here don't have any chants, which is odd.

I still don't understand what Anderson's best position is, but I really hope he steps up this season. Ashley Young and Nani is a ***worthy pairing on our wings.

I loved the city, I loved the fans, I loved the stadium, but most of all I'm just happy I got to see Ryan Giggs play. Oh yeah, Pyramid Brewing next to the stadium is shite.

I ended up missing the drinking entirely. After having a late lunch with a friend and stopping by Pike Market, we were walking down 1st street and I noticed about 200 reds waiting outside the entrance to the Four Seasons, and the bus was pulling up to take the team to the stadium. After that I walked to Qwest and made it to my seat ~15 minutes before kickoff.

I was not far from that section (behind and to the left) so I could make out a few chants. I found one bewildering, ("You Suck, Asshole!" chanted every time the opposing keeper takes a goal kick. :wenger:) and one plagiarizing ("Sounders! We do! Sounders! We Do!" etc. :smirk:) but it's as much energy as I've seen at a football match in the US that wasn't a US/Mexico game.
