Serbia vs England U21 - The Incident

A game behind closed door along with usual meaningless fine (less than what Bendtner got for showing his underwear). Well, I suppose it's a start at least. Still feel they've got off way too easy here, but sadly not unexpected.

Uefa's a joke, birds fly, the sky is blue etc.. Nothing new here folks.

At least the fine was more than what Rio got for laughing at the use of a 'racist word'. I was worried it would actually be less.

The Serbian FA were still under the probation period for the Italian incident, and had a game behind closed doors suspended from then.

Does anyone know if this knew game behind closed doors is separate due to it being an Under 21 game, or if that ban is applying to this?

Rio didn't get fined for laughing at a "racist word". He got fined for retweeting a racist insult about Ashley Cole to more than 3 million people.

He didn't retweet it. He replied to another black man who said 'looks like Cole is their choc ice' by saying 'I hear you man! choc ice is classic hahaha' in the same way he says everything he finds humorous is 'classic'

I'll admit to not knowing how twitter works. I thought Rio tweeted the other guys abusive tweet (that's retweeting right?) and commented on it.

You are right about what a retweet is. What Ferdinand did was reply to the original tweet by saying 'I hear ya fella (or similar) choc ice is classic hahaha'.

It's a bit of a dick move to positively acknowledge what was said and should have been more professional, but he never actually called Cole a choc ice.

Here's the tweets:

I don't actually remember whether Rio retweeted the first tweet. The way Rio wrote his tweet it didn't show up on the timeline of all his followers. Just the ones that also follow the other guy (which probably isn't that many). You'd have to check Rio's profile to see the tweet. Not that I'm defending him - it was an incredibly stupid thing to do.

My serbian mate said they sure got you there on "behind closed doors" sanction, because their stadiums are empty anyway.

Meh, UEFA are never going to change, what needs to be a sustained campaign to have them change. They care far to much about money, hence why Bendners fine was far more than any racism fine. If teams are expelled from competitions, made to play behind closed doors, banned from TV. It all hits UEFA and there sponsors pockets.

This is UEFA, those massive hoardings they force stadiums to install, have to be seen by the maximum amount of people. Can't risk upsetting the sponsors.

Need one of those campaign websites set up. Let people put there name on an email that is fired off to every email address that we can find for UEFA, National FA's, There Sponsors.

Nice to see UEFA doing something about it at least. Plenty of suspensions to individual players as well which is good.

UEFA's usual joke punishments as usual then. It probably hurts England more than Serbia considering England will be missing 2 key players from the start of the Euro's.

He was very lucky not to get anything more than he did, he was saved by the fact that the FA were already in a mess over the issue. You can't try and take the moral high ground over racism and then "only" laugh and repeat a racist comment.
