When is it an appropriate time to use this gif?

Honestly, if Woody pulls this off, it would be our most impressive transfer in recent times.

He's 29 already, not the most reliable cb and the amount rumoured is too high. Not good business, imo.

ah just feck off if Sergio Ramos is our marquee signing of the summer. feck right off.

Trading De Gea for Ramos would be like trading a Picasso for that drawing of a dog my 3 year old niece did.
He's pretty much been one of the best or top 3 center backs at the very least over the last few years. Would be a great signing, especially if you consider that it won't have that big of an impact on our other dealings money wise as we can spend so much. He's 29 but maybe that's exactly what we need in defence, an experienced head to partner Rojo/Smalling and Shaw. All our defenders are relatively young so he'd be perfect to help them.

And we're still going to go after Schweinsteiger/Gundogan and get a right back... And we already signed Depay. Nothing to complain about

These stories always reach a point where the press start to legitimize the possibility of it happening. Doesn't help when the agent of the player is actively trying promote the idea too.

Fair fecks if this goes through. Still seems like a contract war.

I wonder though if we could actually sign both Ramos and Otamendi. Leaving us with Jones Smalling as well as Center backs and make Rojo and Shaw share Left back responsibilities.

People are mental. In my opinion the best centre back in the world (if not definitely top 2/3) is potentially available and people are saying they wouldn't have him.

I watch about 15-20 Madrid games in a normal year. He was brilliant in 13/14, mostly good last season but definitely shaky at times but I expect him to have another very strong 5 years, so a massive offer would be great.

Over the next 5 years, his age 29-33 seasons, how many CB's will outplay him? Probably Boateng. I wouldn't really be confident picking anyone else. Lots of CB's peak in their early 30's and he's still a fantastic athlete.

He'll probably just get a raise and stay at Madrid, but Perez is crazy. If he leaves, this is like Robben or Sneijder leaving. Production over the next 2 or 3 seasons will make him a great signing.

When did that happen . Before or after he was linked to us.

Indeed. The guy has been picked by every Real and Spain manager, amassing almost every trophy and over 500 domestic/100 international appearances. Very few are comparable.

Even if he was considered top 10 instead of top 3 I'd consider it a huge improvement over our lot.

These days you just hand in a transfer request and then 12 months later become captain...

And a prediction of Ramos' future at Madrid post-Casillas if this deal never materialises - the captaincy that is.

The new Rooney rule or he'll join Rooney. It's getting slightly harder to be sensible and not let muppet mode sink in.

Am I the only one who fails to get excited at the prospect of signing him? Acquiring him would mean no Otamendi I suppose:(? Why are people more confident now all of a sudden that we might get him, what changed?

He is a massive player as well. A highly decorated and achieved player. It would be a great boost to the dressing room.

Anyone concerned about his age should look at Terry. What a season he's had, aged 5 years older than Ramos.

The guy has 130 odd caps for Spain and has been the first choice centre back at Madrid under every coach that has been there. He's a brilliant player and people that throw the overrated term about are speaking nonsense. The red cards are the only thing that can be mention to question his ability but he's nowhere near as bad as he used to be.

I can see us getting them both

Madrid are doing good business if they sell Ramos for Otamendi.
They will only buy him because Ramos wants to leave. They will not be getting the better deal here in regards to defensive players.

Nothing has changed to be honest. We're still not sure if he's ready to make a move to United as much as we don't know if Otamendi would come here also on 100%.

Ferguson wanted to sell the three first names there, so they did certainly not "take them".
van Nistelrooy wanted a Real Madrid clause before he even fell out with Sir Alex. According to his book.
