Shinji Kagawa | Signs for Manchester United

Woah. If you weren't in here before Hazard blew you all out, you can do one.

I've always been a big Shinji fan. Love all all his stuff.

Since its between us and Arsenal, if we dont get Kagawa we should really close the transfer forum because from then on we'd be competing with Everton for players.

Erm so now we need to try and convince Kagawa that we were going to sign him anyway? I doubt he'd be happy feeling like the backup option.

I hope we don't resort to bringing in overpriced English players this summer. If Kagawa is going for a decent fee then it would be a good move since he brings something our side lacks, Creativity from the middle which our strike force will thrive from.

Kagawa is a terrific footballer by his own right. He might not become one of those huge stars like Messi or Ronaldo, which Hazard may or may not - but he's certainly not a consolation prize. I hope we haven't been keeping him on a back burner, but if we have, it's time a step it up. This is a fantastic opportunity and, shock and horror, even 'value'.

True, at half the transfer fee and under half the (reported) wages of Hazard then he is the much better buy. I was speaking to an arsenal fan friend of mine who is pretty clued up on the German league. I said that Hazard would be a great signing but Kagawa would be good too. He said I was seriously underrating Kagawa and that he is as good as Hazard. Obviously hazard is younger and its impossible to tell.

Hopefully the money saved can go on a good central midfielder.

Not too disappointed about losing Hazard because I never truly expected it to happen but losing out on Kagawa would be an absolute hammer blow.

New to this thread, he looks good this fella! Sign him up!!

If we get him, I can see him being our Player of the Year, such are his playmaking skills.

Lets hope we get this one wrapped up this week and move on to our other targets.

For me, (though I love the talent of Hazard), I'd be disappointed if we didn't sign Kagawa. He can make the simple pass or the 'killer' pass. The latter is something that I think we've been sorely missing over the last couple of seasons, Giggs aside. From what I've seen of him, he is a tireless worker as well. I think that he would add versatility to the squad in addition to an infusion of youth and talent. Obviously in the Dortmund system he has played a roaming role as an attacking mid / deep lying forward, but personally I think he could slot in several roles depending on our formation / tactics. I think he could play the 'Giggs' role in midfield of a midfield 3 (quite seamlessly IMO). He could be used as an attacking midfielder at the top of a midfield three, play behind the striker and do a job on either wing.

In any of these roles, he has goals in him, whether it be the killer pass or a goal himself. Technically I see him as a very astute dribbler as well. Most importantly (for me) he seems extremely two footed which, at certain positions on the pitch we seem to lack. I like him, a lot. I'd be disappointed to see him go to Arsenal whom I think he'd be great for when I think that he'd be able to play in several roles with United and give us some of the creativity that we have all been clamoring for, in abundance. I'd add that Hazard or no Hazard, I don't think they would be in direct competition for a spot regardless.

Shamelessly quoting myself as this thread will actually get the attention it deserves now..

You know what bugs me? The foreign commentators pronouncing Kagawa's name. kaGAwa is wrong, KAgawa is correct.

At no point did the Kagawa deal seem dependent on what happened with Hazard, nothing has changed.

Agree with that .It was never one or the other.

I thought the consensus was that we were waiting to see what happened with Hazard before committing to Kagawa. Obviously they are different players but both could have played the no. 10 role. I just hope he doesn't feel like we see him as second best.

I think it's pretty clear that Kagawa was our backup plan put in place in case of Hazard going elsewhere. I mean, they play the same position, which is a position we're not exactly desperate for anyway. Would we really have signed two players there when we barely need one?!

We've gotta close this deal quickly now and move on to the next. After seeing what he's capable of it's clear that Kagawa would be a brilliant signing for us.

Losing out on Hazard is a disappointment but we probably do need another midfielder in the mould of Javi Martinez a bit more. Chelsea and Man City have disrupted the market for everyone and it's an unfortunate reality that we will lose out more often. There's always another option out there who can be a lesser rated talent, cheaper and just as effective. Our scouting network need to be on point though.

This lad has always been the real deal. More a United player than thon other cnut. Better attitude too. He'd be great here.

Plus the numbers just don't add up. I mean...

Hazard 32 million
Powell 4 million
Baines (or other LB) 15 million
Possible CM also

That would amount to over 50 million even if we didn't sign a CM. Kagawa on top would be an absolutely huge outlay. Of course I'm speculating.

Mentioned it many times in here, I think this deal was tied up a while back, like DDG last year.

Exactly.

Sir Alex went and spoke to Kagawa in person. Its nowhere been reported that Sir Alex spoke face to face to Hazard (I'm not saying he didn't but if he did then that hasn't made the news once). This is typical Sir Alex practice when he has his heart set on a player e.g. one of the reasons Ramsey gave for not signing for us was because he spoke to the Boss by telephone not face to face. Sir Alex got on a plane and flew to Germany to have a sit down chat with Kagawa. That suggests to me that come what may he is determined to bag Kagawa this summer and I hope he does. Shinji Kagawa is a superb footballer.
