Shinji Kagawa

He was there to make things happen, and ended up being a soft luxury player with some touches here and there. Very dissapointing.

Looked dangerous in the first half then completely disappeared as Real took over in the second half.

Wish we brought Hazard!!! Joking.. He did alright but really needs to start imposing himself more. Nothing to do with our tactics/finding a position for him, he just needs to make himself a key component.

He was given license too today. Wasn't asked to track back Alonso but just couldn't even use that freedom in the first half.

In the 2nd we pushed Danny there, and he did much better.

Found himself in some great positions first 20 minutes. He just faded after that, and looked lightweight. Moving Welbeck in centre was a game changer.

He still has it all to prove for us, but hopefully he'll keep on working hard and I think he'll come good sooner rather than later. I think it's strange to "sacrifice" Rooney to play him in that position, as I think Rooney is far more likely to create something, but do we have anyone who can put in the same shift as Rooney did on the wing?

And Danny made all the difference when he was moved in there instead, so he certainly made himself a contender for that central spot as well.

Patience people, patience. First touch and movement are excellent, he will grow into United. He showed good signs against Southampton.

Thought he started well but he is clearly a player that is used to having plenty of posession.

He is still young and like de gea will take a season or 2 to adjust and get comfortable.

Thought in the 1st half in periods he looked class and managed to work space nicely.

We got to remember this level is pretty new to him.

He'll take a while to get used to us and us to him. He's a class act, it's just that so far we haven't quite been able to get him going in the same way he did at Dortmund. That said, tonight he looked a bit lost. When he had the ball he was okay, when he didn't he seemed to struggle.

He looked so dangerous and quick at Dortmund always darting here and darting there, he looks nothing like that player.

Strange reaction, I thought he was quite good tonight!

He played more advanced than I was expecting. In the first half he was often further forward than RvP, and got behind the Madrid defence on a couple occasions, and was generally quite tidy on the ball.

The injury came at a bad time - just when he was finding his feet.

At the moment, he is miles away from the Mata, Silva or Cazorla quality that many hoped he would bring.

Today's match should be a key reminder of why it's important to have patience with players.

Welbeck, Evans, Carrick, Jones have all been criticized by the Caf and all were very good today.

Shinji will be a very good buy for us.

He obviously has a brilliant football brain but to be honest looked lightweight and at times off the pace this evening.

We certainly didn't miss him when he came off.

Neither Valencia or Giggs spruced the place up. Didn't change much except their legs weren't tired, which was the point of all the subs tonight.

Wasn't much wrong with him today. Did what he was supposed to in the first half. Always ready for the 2nd ball when RvP received it. Almost got through twice. All of our attacking game was at some part through him in the first half.

There frankly wasn't much attacking going on. Jones and Rooney guilty of losing possession to easily. Full backs had a hard time moving the ball forward.

Kagawa is fantastic but he really hasn't got started at all yet. The first 10 minutes he was the most lively player on the pitch but then he just completely faded.

I do think at this point we will have to wait until next season before we see his best.

He'll need (time?) to adapt, both physically and to United's system. He's definitely not short on technical ability.

He looks to be on the fringe of things in most games this season. He could yet prove to be an inspired signing but could equally turn out to be a lightweight, luxury player. His better performances have come when linking with Cleverley.

I thought having some genuine width helped us a lot in the second half. Kagawa was decent for the first 10-15 minutes, then as others have said, he became a passenger. We arguably created our best chances after Kagawa was replaced.

Cazorla, Silva and the like would of looked equally useless playing in that role tonight.

Not sure if he has found his position at United, and he may never.

He played behind Lewindowski at Dortmund. Not sure if he will get the opportunity with us.

Huh ? He was playing behind RVP today with extra freedom of not tracking Alonso too first half.

I agree. He did start well, but in the second half was always going to get subbed. Lost the ball and faffed about on the ball a bit too often, but it wasn't a howler of a match by any means.

Not the easiest place to go and have a belter of a game today to be fair, and I think most of our players had a good solid game.

been a bit of a let down this season after a promising start, but the talent is certainly there I would expect him to become a big player for us next season.

Seems to be lacking confidence. The class is there though, just needs to hit a bit of form.

Oh i like Kagawa and he should improve but c'mon now.

Well unless they specialise in running in behind then basically they'd be feeding off scraps - he got very little of the ball into feet.
