Shinji Kagawa

Yes he fecking was not last year but thats not the point go fecking look it up.

Hazard and Hulk are awesome because they are Chelsea's? American and 20 years old thats my guess.

Do you think all stars have to be bought for top prices? We didn't break the bank for Ronaldo, Modric wasn't bought for a huge sum. Sometimes players just need the right platform on which to become stars. This guy looks to be an excellent prospect and there's no reason that after a season or two he couldn't be as highly rated as a silva or nasri.

Greensmilie what a dick. I mean seriously.

Anyway, in a joyus, enthusiastic and (genuinely) in no way cynical way I'd just like to point out that we can all be excited by the purchase of a player who plays creative and attacking football in the middle channel of the pitch. That's enough for me to look forward to next season. £12m is a heck of a buy for someone of his pedigree. If he was European he'd have cost much more and come with a huge reputation considering what he achieved in a top European League. He's going to be the missing link between midfield and strikers. I'm off for a Shinji shuffle.

Totally agree. I've watched a fair bit of Dortmund this season (atleast 7 or 8 league games, the cup final, one or two CL games and plenty of highlights) and I've been really hoping we signed Kagawa. I genuinely think people aren't expecting much because he's Asian. It's a fecking great signing for that price.

I'm taking FULL credit for this signing.

Not only did we manage to get into the stadium and onto the pitch last year (after our semi with Schalke), we all lifted a few shirt transfers from the club shop.... and your's truly had the foresight to choose the one and only Kagawa.

feck you Fergie and the scouting team, I'm mint.

I think all those sceptics who have thought we have bought just a "shirt seller" will learn soon enough how wrong they are.

I have watched a lot of this lad and German football in general and this guy is something special, and not the "Jonjo Shelvey" type of special either, someone who can make a real difference to our attacking play.

I'm delighted with this signing. I'd never heard of the lad until we were linked with him but the reports about him are all positive and he looks a very tidy player.

Just because a player it is not renown does not make him a poor signing: Hernandez was fantastic in his first season, how many people knew about Ronaldo before he moved and Ozil wasn't a big-name before his move yet he's turned out to be one of the best midfielders in Europe.

I personally can't wait to see Kagawa play. I just hope we use him to his strengths.

I'm excited anyway.

And I hardly get excited by football-related stuff any more.

Alright alright we've signed an incredible midfielder at a bargain one the best midfielders out there, the Bundesliga player of the year and anybody who isn't hyper excited knows feck all about football.

Nah, that's not what anybody's saying. We aren't calling for people to be excited about him, but you make it out like he's some useless player who is nothing compared to Hulk and Hazard, who both play in inferior leagues.

I'd never even heard of him before the Kagawa thread and I watched a few of Dortmund's games this year, the only midfielder that was kind of well known was Godze. But now that we've signed him everybody seems to know everything about him.

This suggests you do know feck all though.

"But now that we've signed him everybody seems to know everything about him" - Aye, just since this morning everyone has been raving about him, and never before.

Well, if reports are to be believed we might still be giving away a number 9 shirt as well this summer.

It'll probably go to Welbeck but seeing as though our single figure squad number quota won't be used up until it is officially (and c'mon that is definitely the basis of all player signings) then there is still time for some muppeting.

JESUS feckING CHRIST I want football back to end this idiocy.

No, I'm just in bad mood

And a nonsensical one too.

You've already admitted to never having seen the guy play, yet you're still fecking moaning. All evidence points to this being a very astute purchase (winning player of the year in Germany, positive reviews from people who watch him every week etc.).

Thats not what I said, this was all a reaction to my "nice one Glazers" if we only sign Kagawa this summer. Yes I'm pleased we signed Kagawa even though I've never seen him play, I only watch United's games and a few Champions League games unlike all you football experts, but no I wont be pleased if he is our only midfield signing.

I'm not fecking moaning! Go back and read my post I said I wont be happy if he is our only "big" signing.

In regards to Asian football, I've been a big fan for years. They play with an urgency, an energy and it's end to end counter attacking stuff. It's always fast paced and probably due to their size (that sounds racist but its a fact they are generally of a smaller build) its more technically orientated. Obviously it's not at European standard but I always thought it was inevitable that a J-League or K-League player make the step up to being an outstanding player in a European league because they have the basics right and that's always a great start.

That was probably the worst post of the year. Just because you barely know anything about football doesn't mean anyone signed for less than £40m is crap.

Perfect example of why young players see big money transfers and go elsewhere (pogba).

Posts like these make me think promotion is overrated :(

What the feck is wrong with this Unofficial Devil? Did we educate you earlier in the week or something regarding how good this lad is?

Ah lads, leave UD alone. He's trying to row back on his comments a wee bit so let him without trying to destroy him. fecking hell, we all have a spaz attack every now and again.

Kagawa solid buy for £12m. He's no Ozil or Hazard, but it gives us added depth and allows us more creativity in our tactics, especially allowing Rooney to play as a single forward against better teams now.

But then again, we were clearly in for both him and Hazard, so they'll probably look at other options for the role they wanted Hazard to play....maybe they'll take a late run at Gotze or something, match him up with his buddy.

He's 23, just. Same age as Cleverley basically, I'd say he has every chance to be a world class player for us. He plays in a position that gets recognised too, unlike Valencia who is just hailed as a top winger, if Valencia played centrally and was as good as he was wide he would be a star player. Kagawa plays in that key position. He's going to be huge.

Not simply shirt sales. Of course we aren't going to sign a donkey to sell shirts but the marketability of the player certainly plays a bigger part than it should. I did say I am happy we have signed him. I was happy when we signed Park and he is been a great squad player for us since we did. No arguments there. I just felt and feel we needed a proven world class talent for our midfield. I had my hopes on Silva then he went to City. I was hoping for someone of similar pedigree this window that's all. The likes of Scholes cannot be replaced with a "good" player it requires proven excellence and that costs big money. Big money we seem reluctant to spend.

You very very very rarely get to replace a player of Scholes quality and influence on a like for like basis. It's not just REALLY difficult, it is also a case of football and tactics changing over time.

You only ever tinker around the key players in the team and sometimes such key players leaving provide the opportunity for more radical changes.

I'm pretty confident we will NOT get a Scholes replacement. What we do need to ensure is there isn't a creative void left behind, and Kagawa goes some way to address that.

If you are waiting for the Scholes replacement and will assess every signing from that perspective you will end up a very unhappy and angry man.

I watched a LOT of Stuttgart last year (mrs is a Germany nut) and the times I saw Kagawa in highlights and live it was his understanding with Lewandowski that made me stand up and take notice of Shinji.

It was like those two were on another planet.

Yes, he was - in 2007 - how is this even relevant? It's a very strong league with plenty of good footballers.

No, 23 and Polish. You could have just checked my profile instead of guessing. Again, it's completely irrelevant as well.

Yeah the two injuries to Barrios and Götze in the previous two seasons have really given a chance for Lewandoski and Kagawa to bloom.

If used properly he can be as good as Özil and Hazard. He played in the same league as Özil did for the first years of his career and did as well if not better than him. You're really underrating him here.

I don't think we were after Hazard because we need him on top of Kagawa. It was a case of either/or, or a case of young talented lad ticking all the right boxes (there's always room for quality, particularly in key areas). Don't expect us to pursue someone "for the role Hazard was to play".

Unless Nani to Anzhi is a goer, of course.

When I was listening to the Talksport journalists, he was saying Kagawa was NOT our second choice behind Hazard. We were in for both of them and we have not settled for Kagawa. He said we could have played both of them together.

FWIW, I think that was the case as well but it is anyone's guess.

You should have watched Dortmund instead.

Based off Germany/France league form, Hazard and Ozil were coming off better final seasons, basic stats are similar for all 3.....but Hazard and Ozil were far more involved in their teams build up and dictated the play more....thus around 15-20 passes more per game on average at a similar success rate. But thats probably just Dortmunds tactics, he'll probably get a lot more touches for us, regardless of if we sign someone else. Tbf, he might control thing a lot for Japan, never really seen them play outside of the World Cup, and I'm not looking to watch their next two games, just wait to see him in a Utd jersey.

I think it's a great buy for the price. Just stick to him not being, or at least up to this point in their careers, showing being at the level of potential Ozil/Hazard, who we were in for, had shown. Just a notch below.

Should also be noted and you can find my disapproval from last years shenanigans that I find him a superior buy to Sneijder.....even if we got Sniejder at the same wage and salary.

I can't see that personally. It's not even a money issue but that it would be ott. We already have 3 quality wingers on par with those players and probably at a higher level right now in the case of nani and as good for Valencia and maybe young. Would seem pretty radical to get both of them, certainly without someone leaving considering we also have welbeck and hernandez. Could only really work if one of them was gonna play centre kid which I highly doubt.

Arm, you haven't been in the generals for a while.

NSFW stuff even as tame as that is resulting in bans in the generals so you can be sure it's not going to be welcomed in the FF.

I don't get some of the responses in here. It's an amazing piece of business provided he stays healthy because, he is really, really good at football. Full stop.

Not even bringing the Asian part of the fictitious equation into it for some of the posters, would they be more content / satisfied if he cost 25 million?

Then there are those (those who aren't joking) honestly questioning his ability because they either haven't seen him enough, or City / Chelsea / Barca / Real Madrid weren't in for him? Give me a fecking break.

He is the exact type of player we've been yearning for, even more so than Hazard. We need creativity high up the pitch through the middle and by all accounts, that's exactly what we are getting. Who out there would be better? Hazard? He doesn't even play through the middle. He wants to, but he hasn't. Hazard is a winger / inside forward.

He's young - just turned 23. So why weren't the others of the European 'elites' in for him? Maybe because every single one of them other than ours truly has a player or two of his ilk. Chelsea has Mata. City has Silva. Real has Ozil. Bayern has Kroos. Barca has like a hundred of them.

So we get the exact type of player we've all been wanting and yet some aren't satisfied. If say City didn't have Silva, we'd have been in a bidding war for Kagawa and it'd been muppet mass suicide. Instead, we get him because not only does he want to be here, but also at a decent fee all because our major competition in the transfer market already has a player or two like him. We should be thankful and hopeful. Hopeful that our patience in addressing this glaring need will pay off on the field. FFS
