Shinji Kagawa

Why on earth would I hate him?

He's had a decent game but like most of his games for us, he's not decisive enough.
He has hardly played this year. Considering how rusty he must be, this has been quite impressive.

Terrible pass right at the end there. Should have done better given how good his play has been today.

Offers us far more the AJ at present should start more IMO.

Had he managed to dink that onto Hernandez's forehead it would've capped a very good outing for Shinji.

This that's where the lack of match sharpness makes a difference. The consistency of the final ball just comes with form and confidence, even bough his all round game has been very good today.

Yeah he's played very well today. Surprising given he's barely played of late.

I haven a clue as to why you would. But supporters do often dislike their own players.

I suppose you prefer Young's "assist" performance today to mata and Kagawa's who got neither a goal or an assist?

I prefer Januzaj starting.

Kagawa is always 'tidy' but not decisive or productive enough.

He's been much more than tidy today. A lot of good football has come from him linking up play today. Ditto for mata. Also, it's not easy to suddenly be super confident infront of goal when you never seem to feature in the managers plans.

I don't know what matches you're watching, but Januzaj hasn't exactly been productive in the past few matches he's played.

He's had good-ish game. I agree he's not going to be too confident and earlier on in the season it was confusing why he wasn't a regular starter but now he no longer has the luxury of getting 5/6 games on the trot unless he's performing well. And he generally hasn't done well and thus giving Moyes no reason to stick with him.

More prodductive than Kagawa and our best player in the 2nd half versus Liverpool. Also doesn't disappear when things are not going well

Ah, not the stats game again. Incredibly tedious.

He was excellent today. Deserves to start the next game.

Idk. He'll get a lot of praise today but he doesn't convince me yet. He's a pretty player on the ball but still doesn't make enough of a difference in the final third.

The problem I see is a combination of Mata/Kagawa/Rooney is far too slow. Against better teams I don't think Kagawa makes enough of a difference to warrant a place.

It was great to see him, Mata, Fletcher and Fellaini linking up in the middle. Lots of movement and neat passing.

Well that's just simply not true.

Pretty much is.

Januzaj even when we are not doing well or even he himself is not playing well is constantly involved and drives us forward. Kagawa becomes invisible.

Anyway, he's had a good game today. Hope he starts against Bayern.

Very impressive I thought. Was important that he had another player like him to work with today, and he and Mata brought the best out of each other.

Brilliant today. He's looked very good in each of his last few sub appearances and any start he's had since the turn of the year really, he has just been rarely used. Hopefully he's done enough to play himself into the team vs city, next to mata with welbeck replacing young.

He does a very good job defensively as well which goes unnoticed from a lot of people, west ham did nothing down that side even though Buttner played left back.

Good game. He really does encourage the right kind of football. We actually passed the ball about today, through the middle as well.

Played well, that cross for Hernandez was simple as you like though. No idea how he fecked it up and he's still prone to inexplicably passing straight to opposition defenders.

Kagawa and Mata have formed some fantastic CAM partnership today, intercharged a lot and made themselves available most of the time. Would love to see that pairing playing together a lot more often, they've done good job today although both should have scored their bloody chances. Shame because it would've increased their shares' value a lot.

Can we not say he played well and leave it that?

Complete exaggeration to suggest he was brilliant and sums this thread up.

Needs games, clearly. If he were to have a run of 2-3 games..oh yea, as if that will ever happen.

Well apart from the overhit cross at the end, he didn't put a foot wrong. Him, Mata and Rooney linked up brilliantly and we made chances everytime we went forward with them pretty much. He did a very good job defensively. Okay maybe you can only say Rooney was brilliant today and the rest were very good, but you're just pointing that out just because you don't really want to actually praise him for his performance, hence you saying "did well, still prefer Januzaj starting", despite Januzaj being just 19 years old and showing his age these last few months. This was the first time that our play didn't look really pedestrian, or disjointed, and it's down to Mata, Rooney and Kagawa (and Fellaini) all being on the same wavelength.

Are you thick?

How does saying he played well not count as praise?

I thought he was excellent. What more could he have done? Grabbed an assist to make it seem like he did something to the casual fan? It was disappointing to see him misplace such an easy pass for Hernandez late on. But, he encourages variety in our game. He linked up well with Mata and Rooney. We also seen him make runs in behind West Ham's defence, something he has rarely done for us. In the context of this season, it's refreshing to see Kagawa, Mata, and Rooney control the game, so that probably has something to do with my opinion on his performance.

Your very first post in the thread about him today was criticizing him for not playing Rooney in the opening minutes of a game he played very well in, it shows you just don't like him and are reluctant to praise him.

And you didn't say he played well. You said "He's had a decent game but like most of his games for us, he's not decisive enough". Like really, what is your problem with him? That's as reluctant as it gets to praise somebody, criticizing him right after. He set up a few great chances, played really well throughout, added a calmness and quality to our play that nobody else does, had great touches and 1 touch passing, and helped out defensively and helped make Buttner look like a decent fullback. A lot better then "decent".

Can't see him starting against City and I wouldn't play him in all honesty. We need pace and power so playing Welbeck on the left makes sense, he can track Zabeleta & Navas and also push them back and give them something to think about.

Kagawa played well today, I would like to see him given a proper run of games after City as he would be even better once he hits form. He's a very clever footballer, tidy on the ball and can link up well, his end product lets him down sometimes but he's definitely got the ability to produce so it's most likely just confidence and match fitness.

It would be a bad move to sell him in the summer as he can be a key player for us next season. We have a plethora of options in his position but he offers something different and can function from the wing if we use the right system. The ability to take the ball in tight situations and keep possession is a very underrated talented and one that Kagawa can do quite easily even if it is in the final third.

He was super tonight, and had he shown a tad more composure in the final third, he could've assisted a couple today, as well as notching himself.

Highly promising stuff from himself, Mata and Rooney.
