Always reminds me of that line from Seinfeld, 'You're living in the past, man' :p...Scholes was that passer but he can't currently add to the attacking third what Kagawa can today

Truth is I think Scholes still can be useful in a setup with Kagawa playing the hole, Paul can play that deep lying playmaker role he once did alongside Carrick or Fletcher

But not with Kagawa though. Maybe if Kagawa plays on the left, cuts in, we have one on Nani, Valencia, Young on the right and Rooney on top. That'd be really good.

Rooney and technically decisive don't belong in the same sentence! Nani and Welbeck are superior to him in that respect.

I think you've contradicted yourself a bit there. Both Welbeck and Nani might be more of what some consider 'technical', but certainly not more decisive than Rooney.

I'm sure we would take Sahin but can't see it happening. Not sure what we'd do with midfield then though.

I agree that he can't give us what Kagawa can but it's mainly due to his age. I don't think this signing will have any effect on his role. He will still continue to run the play from deeper positions with the likes of Cleverley/Kagawa/Giggs/Rooney (if played where he did last season) doing it further up the pitch.

Great to sort out the deal relatively early (bar signing of the contract). Delighted he has signed aswell.

No one answered my question as to whether he's a hard worker on the pitch.

Answer me!

Yes. You can't not be a hard worker and play for Klopp's BVB. Here's Raphael Honigstein on the subject:

Apart from a much-needed injection of youth, pace and directness into United's midfield, Kagawa also offers tremendous defensive capabilities.
At Dortmund, he was perfect for the highly aggressive "Gegenpressing" tactic employed by manager Jürgen Klopp - the Black and Yellow instantly pressed the ball after conceding possession in the opposition half.

"The transfer is not complete for the time being. I have yet to sign the contract," Kagawa told Kyodo News after training with his national team on Tuesday.

"The team and I are fully focused on the next two games.

"It's better if we talk about (the transfer) after those matches. I want to focus on playing well over the next few weeks

That's been posted already I believe. It's simply playing down the hype.

Hell yeah. Fantastic signing, but surely we shouldnt be confirming it until the medical and work permit is sorted? Maybe just formalities but still...

We signed Owen Hargreaves after a medical, I'm not worried about Kagawa.

Work permit shouldn't present any issue at all. He plays for Japan on the regular.

Spoony needs an asian themed Fidel avatar.

Germans I know refer to it as the Klopp project...He changed everything for the club and well, Dortmund are a special club really - their history inspires many

I know, but still. I know that football is more business than anything else nowadays, but still hate to hear business terms being used in football.

It's more the fact that other teams can still sniff around as he hasn't signed yet. I'm sure it is formalities but you'd think the official site would be a little more prudent and actually wait for it to be done. Ah well....

His goal record in the German league for a midfielder is pretty good. Only 9 assists in 2 seasons though. The Premier League will be much tougher and I can't see him playing in the hole.

From Raphael Honigstein's piece on the bbc this morning

After an impressive first season in Germany that came to an abrupt halt when he broke a metatarsal on duty with Japan in the Asian Cup in January 2011, Kagawa was so good in 2011-12 that the enforced four-month absence of Mario Götze, the biggest prodigy in Germany football, hardly registered.

The numbers alone bear witness to his enormous impact. Kagawa netted 17 in all competitions and set up 13 goals to become the league's most efficient and best attacking midfielder, ahead of Bayern's Arjen Robben and Franck Ribéry.

He had 10+ assists just last season. Or so what if his assist category is low. He is more than making up for it by scoring right?

Christ, it isn't that bad.

It is a take on their national flag.

We have to remember that he is a developing player too, he only turned 23 in March.

Kagawa has a decent sensei in Scholes for the next year too.

I'm only going by the stats they've been showing on Sky which were 9 assists in 49 league games. Something like 20-odd goals though which is impressive for a midfielder. I'd be surprised if he scored that many over here though I'd like to be proven wrong.

My cat can do a better photoshop than that its awfull

Fair enough, I didn't realise that you were talking about the photo-shopping skills. No doubt it is the result of a Glazernomic policy, they probably have the tea lady doing graphic design whilst the kettle is boiling.

ESPN stats have him getting 21 goals and assists in 29 starts this season.
