Shinji Kagawa

I've always felt we needed to replace the Paul Scholes of 10 years ago - we lack penetration around the box more than we lack a controlling central midfielder. Not that one would hurt, but our style of play has never really made central midfielders (as) critical to our scoring success. We have Carrick who is brilliant and I'm sure a combination of the youngsters can do the rest.

So basically you've run out of excuses.

@kingeric: not true. That's why he tried to get Sneijder & Nasri last year

Oh grow up.

Basically I'm tired of the same old discussions with you. We have a very different view, expectations and belief in individuals and our squad as a whole and no matter how much we argue, neither of us is going to know if either of us is right until the transfer window closes and the season unfolds.

It's time to agree to disagree. If you are going to be so childish to call that a win or something then I will happily humour you.

Well we've now seen him in a 2-man midfield. He did all right, but it limits him a bit too much and he doesn't have much of a presence nor discipline defensively, nor does he pick up the runs of attackers.

Then again, he did play together with Cleverley, who also likes to run forward and think attack before defense, so I could see Kagawa do well with someone like Carrick.

But it's obvious he's far better when he gets the free role behind the striker/in front of two midfielders. Great partnership with Rooney.

Nani - Rooney - Valencia
Kagawa
Clev - Carrick/Ando

Would do a lot of damage on most teams.

Such an amazing player to watch. Effortless on and off the ball, can't ever imagine him panicking when in possession.

Exactly my thoughts. We looked so much better when Jav went off and we had Kagawa more advanced with Rooney right up top. We had that kind of attacking fluidity that is amazing to watch.

I told somebody a few weeks ago that he was going to shit all over the PL, and I still hold that prediction.

He looks class, pure class. I can't wait to have my shirt with his name on the back.

Exactly. Though I doubt even seeing a match will convince some people on here of that.

I wish there was a way to fit Carrick, Cleverley and Anderson into one midfield whilst keeping Kagawa behind Rooney.

Granted that it was a friendly, but there was so much movement and drive in that game. With a bit more defensive know how, that's one hell of a team.

knew he was the real deal, said so when we were being linked to him. But to see him perform like this so quickly, gelling very well with some of our players.

This is exactly what I think.

He just confirmed what we all knew about him playing in a 2-man midfield, he can play there but will be better off further forward. Rooney Kagawa partnership looks very exciting.

He's only here to sell shirts...

At least that's what fans of other clubs will be hoping next season. Kagawa's gonna surprise them all. He's effortlessly comfortable across midfield with his accurate possession play and incisive passing. Also isn't afraid to shoot with both feet, and he knows how to hit the target.

Really impressed by the ease in which he has slipped into this team, you could have forgiven him for a slow start given its a new country and he doesn't speak the language (even if I did spot him chatting with Cleverley before the 2nd half started), but no already looks impressive and one of our best technical players.

Acid test is obviously when the real games start, honestly based on whats been seen already he looks top class and a bargain.

Exactly this. With his technical ability Kagawa could probably play anywhere across the midfield but its quite clear he's at his best in the hole and that's where he should start the season. Kagawa behind Rooney with Cleverley and either Carrick or Ando in midfield is how we should line up against Everton. He's brilliant.

Will be interesting to see Hazard in Community Shield tomorrow, because I think we have got the bargain in Kagawa.

Agree. German League>French league.

Chelsea think they have pulled a fast one on us but I am not so sure, as you say the standard of the German league is higher than the French.

Hazard is a fine player and would have been welcomed here along with Kagawa.

If Kagawa plays in his natural position he will be absolute deadly for us this season. Such a quality little player.

Is it official yet? Can we all helicopter dick?

Speaking of which, you fellas that can actually influence the player songs should in my humble opinion somehow work "helicopter dick" into his song ;)

Exactly.

He looks phenomenal, yet the muppets want us to sign Van Persie and stick in centre mid or left wing. Crazy IMO.

He really looks like a great player, but he isn't for two man midfield, that's for sure. Put him behind the striker, and enjoy.

Irrelevant. We all know his best position, what was proven tonight is exactly what I have been saying. Fergie will trust him in a midfield 2.
