Shinji Kagawa

People prefer Kagawas style to Valencia's, that all. Nothing to seperate thier performances today yet people are completely overreacting when this is pointed out.

It was based on what you think he's capable of rather than what actually happened though. Valencia actually had a very positive impact in creating the opportunity for our second goal and despite this you still get the same old shit about how pointless he is. I don't actually see how Kagawa was so much better. I've wasted enough time here though. It's been a pleasure.

I agree with you mate.

So basically anyone who doesn't agree with you about this has preconceived notions about the players? Well alright then.

No. That's just my opinion because I don't see how he can be considered such a great signing or excellent player based on what he's done for Manchester United. Maybe I'm wrong and he's been better than I think and you're all right.

Again, nobody has said he's been excellent so far, I do think there's been encouraging signs though. But, he doesn't need to be excellent to be better than Valencia because Valencia has been average at very best this season.

I only saw 5-6 games at most of Kagawa at Dortmund so I really don't have much to base my expectations of him other than what I've seen of him while he's been here.

Hey mate dont take it too hard. It's just how this forum is unfortunately. I respect your views. At first I didn't because I thought you were just being deliberately obtuse but I see now. That's why I said "respect" in the other post.

I can definitely see that.

Does not context play a role here?

One of the players is naturally fitted to the role and created a sense of expectation to perform very well in it [although has not done so this season really], the other being a recent arrival attempting to adapt.

I think Fergus' son is talking about irrespective of where kagawa is played, his style will be more preferable than Valencia's. At least, that's what I got from it.

Sort of.

I prefer Kagawas style to Valencia for sure, but when judging how they both did in a particular game, I try not to take that into consideration. I think they made similar contributions, the fact that people think its retarded to suggest this I think is because they simply prefer Kagawa as a player, which I suppose is almost fair enough, and not because he actually played a lot better than Valencia.

I think Kagawa is brilliant and seem to hold him to higher standards than some of his other fans. I always want him to start but he hasn't really performed to even 75% of what I think he can offer. Of course there are plenty of good reasons why this is the case, but like I said, I was just judging his performance independently. I think he was good, same with Valencia. Claiming that there was huge difference in the two players performances I think is a bit of favouritism.

Good performance from him. Nice and neat, didn't give the ball away. Though didn't really impact the game to much. As usual just kept things ticking over for us, and helped to maintain control.

Stoke game isn't really one to judge him on at all. Very strange match, hardly any chances at all, and NO ONE had a great game (nor needed to) but Rooney's performance clearly better than everyone else!

I dont think he played "fantastically", but the 1 thing which i think fergie will be very pleased about was this game was more about a physical test - if he can play here and not get bullied he can stand up to the rest of the league.

At no point in this game did i think wow Kagawa is too weak, which shows he is definitely improving in that department.

We all know he has a brilliant touch, vision, and passing range and i think now he is dealing with the physical side better it will all come together nicely.

It's something i have noticed in a few games now but he seems to have a better general understanding with Rooney than RVP.

It seems to be a trend with Kagawa that he shows a lot of nice touches and helps our ball retention but doesn't actually impact the game in a big way. As I said before, he needs time to adapt to the league and more importantly, to our style of play. The way Dortmund set up and the way we do is miles apart and they are one of those teams that are very well drilled to playing a particular game plan to the tee, so it was always going to take time, even thought the signs in preseason created a lot of over inflated and unrealistic expectations.

I have no doubt that he'll adapt to the leaugue, the big challenge for him, and us, will be to adapt to our current style of play, which won't be easy.

Yep, there's a couple of hurdles he needs to jump. Adapting to a new team, league, style of play AND mostly, not in his favored position. He's not been excellent (apart from 2-3 matcheS), but good/average, all things considered.

He's talented enough to get through it but what's often the case with most new signings, IMO, (especially culturally with Japanese people who are very humble/disciplined), he's settling into his new team so his preference is to play a "junior" role. Often keeping it safe/simple, delegating responsibilities to players who he might deem "senior". (RvP/Rooney etc).

Confidence players often do. Carrick did similar things when he first joined, next to Scholes.

I have no doubt once he's earned that confidence/trust/understanding, he'll start to assume more responsibility and really start to shine. Hopefully he gets more minutes in his favored position as well.

That's my opinion anyway.

Brilliant, cool play to take that extra touch which made it so much easier to get the ball across to Valencia. He is just so intelligent. The runs he makes and he knows exactly when to drop deep to help out and get the ball.

Rather he got further forward a bit more. Was beginning to influence the game a lot.

We need to stretch the play. Too often when Carrick has had the ball there's been nobody on that side to play the ball to.

Obviously has superb close control and the dummy for the assist was sensational.

Needs to cut out the sloppy passing in dangerous areas mind. Sometimes a bit too laid back for my liking. He should pick this up though next season as he is really just feeling his way into the league.

Was a piece of class. A bit disappointed at his careless passing at times though, hes miles better than that. But he made that goal with his quality

That's what he's all about, moments of class like that. He just needs to start doing it more often, which he will.

Two moments of quality leading to goals. Don't understand why he was substituted.

Will be brilliant next season.

Shouldn't have come off imo, him and Carrick had a really good understanding and it was working well, when we kept our heads. When he's given space to drift or plays in the hole he really looks like he can add to our game.

He's better then Rooney. There I said.

As for being taken off today, having provided the two moments of only quality to actually get us two goals. Well, its beggars belief. Fergie's having amare, tactically, this season.
