Shinji Kagawa

It'd make more sense if it's Rooney in behind Welbeck, which I hope it is.

If we've been preparing all week with Rooney as no.10 then it makes sense to do a like for like change with Welbeck coming in for RVP.

A dog that's capable of playing fetch with the football would be a better fecking option than Young right now.

It's down to match fitness. Kagawa and Nani have none, hence Young starting today. Naive as feck to think Kagawa would have made a difference here, he struggled against a pile of shite midweek. City are playing out of their skin here.

It's like when someone tries to get a job but gets knocked back everywhere because they don't have any experience. How are Kagawa and Nani going to get match fit with the lack of game time they're getting? It's not like this is one or two games into the season either, this is our 5th game and it's nearly October.

Said it in the nani thread but the same applies for him. If I was him I would definitely leave united. Future is uncertain at the club and two potentially world class players are being put on the bench for two shite wingers who are there because they "work hard", even though both players were pretty much at fault for the score line being what it is.

Granted mid-week he didn't have the best game but why not give him a game instead of Cleverley when we are looking to create something

And it's also naive to believe that Young would ever have a positive impact on a game like this. Hell, Welbeck on the wing, Chicha up front and Rooney tucked in behind would have been better.

That's exactly what I was hoping for at half time, would have left us more open but you're 2-0 down so we needed to have a go

According to Moyes himself he hasn't been fit enough. And I don't see why Moyes would lie about that

He was never going to start today. Looked a bit too rusty against Bayer

Didn't really make any effort to get him match fit today, either! I missed those quotes but I was tearing my hair out trying to understand why he wasn't brought on.

If he isn't match fit, then why not throw him in to run around for the last 20 mins? Better 20 mins here than the first 20 mins of a high intensity game, where we actually might get some points.

Today's defeat will hopefully mean he gets his chance now with a run of games

Can't answer that but it was puzzling why neither him or Nani came on.

Hopefully both play 90 mins against Liverpool

Why no give Cleverly a chance?

Just because you've written him off doesn't mean Moyes has.
Playing in that position Cleverly has shown that he can keep thing ticking over but doesn't offer anything in the attacking third. He actually made us look better when he came on but Kagawa would have offered us something more going forward, but we put Cleverly and Carrick together and had Fellini push further forward.

Not writing Cleverly off but I would have rather seen Kagawa than him

He'd have a bigger impact defensively, providing a platform for the likes of Nani and Kagawa to come on late on. There's no point in starting unfit players in big games because they'd get shown up.

Based on Kagawa's last performance, I disagree. Kagawa was pushed around and did not look fit. Maybe we could take a chance with him if we didn't need to just stop the bleeding. But we needed to stop the bleeding. Cleverly was exactly what was needed.

I think there's two reasons. Firstly, they've been flying all over to play international games. Secondly, the fixture list has prevented us the chance to give them a run out because they've all been important games. It's a culmination of factors, but I'm sure they will get their games now.

I guess the point im trying to make here is that if we are more content with putting Fellini further forward than Kagawa something is really wrong. Maybe what I was looking for was for Kagawa to come on and have Fellini-Carrick behind him but swapping Fellini with Cleverly did help, just ended any threat we had going forward.

At least he still knew what to do with the ball and made things happen. He won't get match sharp looking from the bench.

You're assumption is that would have been a good thing in this instance. I disagree.

Or he would have been pushed off the ball again repeatedly like he was mid week.
Or he may have been awesome and got a hat-trick I guess we will never know...

All I know was lumping the ball up to Fellini was something I don't like seeing

Don't think he'd have made much difference as he's generally too slow and ponderous in possession, as well as being weak physically. Struggle to believe that this is the same player we saw play electric football at Dortmund.

What the hell is wrong with you? If Moyes just bothered to play 3 behind RVP then I'm sure we would be more creative. And that means excluding Ashley Young for good.

And something Manchester United should never turn to. Was probably one of the most worrying aspects of the day, along with kagawa and Nani not even getting subbed on to get some match sharpness despite the game being over.

Unleash the Kagawa!

The upcoming games in the league ought to be perfect for Kagawa to get back into his rythm, seeing as we're facing rather weak opponents. Surely Moyes will be tempted to play him, if not only to "see what the fuzz is all about". If it really is the case that Moyes just don't have much faith in Kagawa, then he has the next weeks to be proven wrong. Hopefully Shinji will respond to the challenge by making sure that he's never becomes a bench-warmer ever again.

That's racist. It's not his fault he can't grow a moustache.

We have the lack of match fitness excuse at the moment, but I doubt he'd have started even if he was fully fit. He didn't start any of the big games last season. He was dropped for the Madrid game after scoring a hattrick in the previous game. Somehow, the management doesn't trust him enough to give him an elongated run of games and allow him to settle in the side.

No matter how underwhelming, average, dissapointing etc anyone wants to claim Kagawa has been for us its still better than what Young (and Valencia) are offering at the moment.

I don't know how anyone can claim to have seen enough of him to even make that judgement.

Makes you wonder, how the feck he could instantly excell in Klopp´s system, which is built around movement, pace and dynamic (all aspects to a way greater extend than at United), when he is slow and ponderous in possesion. The little kitten Shinji had also to be extremely lucky, that he was left alone for two whole years in the Bundesliga and is now eaten alive by the bullies of the PL, who are of course all meaner and scarier.

Seriously.... Kagawa did not come directly from Japan to your side or from South Ameria or even a south European league, which are defined more by technique. He came from the league, which is the closest thing to the EPL in terms of physicality, a league that was for a very long time more defined by fighting and work rate than technical beauty. A league, which still has teams like Braunschweig, Augsburg, Nürnberg, Stuttgart or Hanover, which will fight technically superior teams with grit and aggression to keep a point.

The excuse of missing match fitness also gets silly by now. Three questions pop instantly in my head when I hear that:

1. What the hell are they doing in training? Kagawa is a player, who has an extremely healthy and disciplined life style and aced every fitness test at United and Dortmund. Unless he has more serious health issues (which should be known by now) I have a hard time believing, that he is still not in shape to even come from the bench.

2. How can he fly all over the globe and play two nearly full matches with Japan in a week?

3. Why was he on the bench today, when he is not match fit? If he could not even make a short stint in the game, he was just blocking the seat for a more fit player.

Lets recap Kagawa´s season until now:

He did not play a single minute in the league and out of seven competive matches he started in one and had one short stint from the bench. Even taking all possible excuses into account, this is not a whole lot.

I just believe one thing. If Moyes can not give Kagawa any serious perspective until the end of the year, the likelyhood of him being gone in the winter will be very high. Not with his former club also challenging for titles, playing CL and actively keeping the door open for a return.
