So, who should we buy?

How many of their players were better than ours on monday, position by position?

How many of our players make a United-Southampton XI based on that game?

Based on the season?

I'd take Schneiderlin as a replacement for Carrick eventually, and Clyne for sure. Probably Alderweireld as well for the back, though doesn't he pick up his fair share of injuries?

Clyne and Schneiderlin would be handy.

Diego Godin, Kevin Strootman, Marco Reus.

Just kidding, we should really try to emulate Liverpool and buy a few Southampton players next summer.

I hope they or West Ham make the top 4 at Arsenal's expense.

I think Schniederlin is a good player but LvG will opt for Strootman, leaving Clyne as the only Southampton player I'd want to see us buy.

Well, based on monday i'd take van Persie, De Gea and 9 Southampton players.

They're doing something right.

You should exchange transfer tips with Brentan Rodgers.

I was really impressed by Mane - not that we need him. Shame on me, but I knew very little about him before the game - and he was a constant threat to us (who wasn't, though). Incredibly gifted and has an eye for a pass. Not that we need him at all, of course.

Schneiderlin and JWP would look good in our midfield. I'm not a big fan of Clyne myself, even if we really can use a cover for Rafael. He never quite lived up to the hype

Clyne would be handy as he can play left and right back

Schneiderlin seems like a Ronaldo circa 2008-09 case, ie, play one more year and we'll let you go. He'd do well at Spurs, their midfield is lacking in players of his quality. I really like him as a player, and I think he is going to really flourish at a bigger club.

None. Some of them are as good as we already have in their positions, but none would be an improvement. We're not a team that needs to fill out our squad, rather we need a sprinkling of genuine quality.

I wanted Schneiderlin before we bought Blind. Less so now. There isn't a massive difference in quality between the two imo, although Carrick is getting on a bit and we could do with another in that position before he's on his last legs.

No one else really.

Well Liverpool went on to sign 3 players from them. Had that worked out for them?

Seriously guys, its time we start considering the gap in terms of talent, pressure and expectations between smaller and bigger clubs. The likes of Fellaini were gods at Everton however they struggled at a bigger club. Foster, Howard and Phil Neville were average with us but they shaped a respectable career elsewhere

If the price is right then we should go for these sort of players. However it rarely is.

I've seen a couple of matches of him in a Salzburg shirt and he impressed me. Tricky little player with loads of speed and an eye for a goal. We haven't seen much of his goalscoring exploits in Southampton so far but I'm convinced it will come.

On a side note: I added him to my fantasy team after he was signed. So far I haven't recouped much, but he was cheap and listed as a midfielder, so the potential for a high-scoring player that "no-one else" got in their team is there.

I thought Mane was terrible last night. He messed up a few of Saints attacks and chances last night. A better player would have punished us for all the lapses in defense.

Was also not impressed with Clyne. Young got the better of him a few times and was able to put crosses into the box.

I was more impressed with his natural ability and not actually his performance. At first I thought that he was another one gifted but stupid player like Ben Arfa, but he picked some neat passes closer to the end of the game (the one to Pele, if I'm not mistaken, was simply brilliant).

Nowhere near top-class yet, but I can see him getting there with the right management.

I have a bet with my Arsenal mate about this, I think West Ham and Newcastle look in a better position for doing that this season. They're getting better, whilst Southampton are getting injuries and looking worse.

The more you try and weaken them, the stronger they come back. If we bought 5 of their players, they'd win the league next year and we'd get relegated. Just ask Brenton.

Phil Neville was not average with us. Far from it. Outrageous comment.

Has it really come to this? We're basing transfer targets on a single game against a crap performance from United?

I guess we should sign Vardy to replace Rooney, should we?

I like what I've seen of Wanyama. Rarely does anyone get the better of him physically, and he's very good on the ball too.

Would still prefer Strootman though.

Not happy with being this patronising towards other clubs, tbh.

Going by how much better organised they looked than us, the person who impressed the most last night was Koeman.
