Should Mourinho bring in a new 'attacking coach'

You got an outrageous hand-ball decision not given in your favour and then a ridiculous deflection.

Kidding.

Don't forget to mention Chelsea didn't get a shot on target all game and were offensively completley nullified and that Costa got away with Murder and is apparently allowed to push opposition defenders head first against the goal post and not even get a yellow for it.

Edit: feck white text, I bit :annoyed::lol:

Said it last year but I genuinely think we look so archaic going forwards.. it feels like we're playing football from a bygone era compared to other sides despite the flattering thumping wins earlier in the season where it was near the end of the games were we took advantage of some counter attacking opportunities..

Ironic that this thread began with how he didn't know how to address parked buses when he was one of those to employ that tactic more than others

In any event, he may win or lose going forward but he has never been much of an attacking coach or one for developing youth - not sure why some are somehow surprised now. This is Mou, unless it results in winning a trophy the play will not inspire anyone

The quality of the build-up play is not good enough. Mainly because of being a bit slow. The best teams move the ball quickly. We do it only when counter-attacking.

He should, our forward play is not sophisticated enough. Need to upgrade Midfield and attacking personal, it doesn't help when you have players like herrera being passive and Lingard.
We should have bought Sane instead of Mkhitaryan. If Barca want Herrera let him got and replace him with Goretzka. Obviously Griezmann is a must.
And for god's sake change the f---ing system.

It depends a lot on the personnel who were lethargic in their attacks and closing down. Our system needs to be more compact when we Attack as well. Too often I see one of our wide players running with the ball and they have no support from anyone close by.

Mourinho is pig headed and wont change his ways. Like VG he looks at what worked in the past, and in his mind must work in the future. The other thing is you need the right players to implement it as well. You need a proper LWB LW and RWB RW. We havent got these players. We have forwards and AM for wingers, and defenders and wingers for wing backs and none of them provide the speed and crosses/passes on a continuous basis. This year we have had good results due to late substitutions, but since and including Liverpool we have been poor. Pogba and Fellaini have been injured, and are massive losses, but thats why you build a squad to compensate for this. If as the OP says we bought in an attacking coach, would Mourinho implement any suggested changes or tactics that were the opposite of what he would like?

I remember Rvp praising Rene Muelesteen for his attacking drills and said many goals that season were straight out of the training ground routine. He also had a part in helping Ronaldo convert into the goal scoring machine he is now. Jose might need someone like that to bring in some fresh ideas.

Jose needs help in the attacking side of things. I doubt if he would agree with that assessment though so we won't be bringing in anyone

Makes me laugh when people say he would have been just as successful at Barcelona as Pep. Not for me Clive. No chance he develops Messi and Xavi the same way.. can't see Iniesta being a Mourinho player either or a Dani Alves.

There's more chance that José brings in a second and third Fellaini, before he brings in an attacking coach, if he ever listens to him

Fully agree, look at the players he had at his disposal at RM and what the mangers after him have accomplished with that team and still are.

Yes we need better ball circulation and better attacking than we have seen from last 3 games. In posession we lack no direction of what areyou trying to achive by passing the ball.

To be fair to mourinho , Real madrid's mourinho were a top class counter attacking team that made semi's of ucl for 3 seasons and won a la liga title.

It must be said Rene might be an awful choose for a manager, but as trainee he's superb as our attack hasn't been up to scratch for the most part since he got unfairly sacked by moyes.

Also bet RVP regrets not signing for us earlier in his career if he had changes to do so.

No.

It's a myth that he sets up his team defensively. He only reverts that way when playing against tough opposition away from home.
His team's over the years have always had a very good goal scoring record. If we take example of his time in Spain his Madrid team outscored Pep's Barca side in his three years at that club.

Is that fecking word again.

Yep, frustrating isn't it.
The stats also paint the picture that we are an attacking side , the reality is somewhat different.

Just like at Madrid, Jose fills his boots against turd, and then goes into his shell v quality. That's the reason he's not there.

To call Jose an attacking coach is off the scale revisionism.

Rene, Solskjaer or Giggs would all be good shouts for a pure attack coach and personally I think to be successful in the era you need to adapt and evolve whilst taking in other people’s ideas.

Yes Jose has been a very successful manager and one trophies everywhere he’s been BUT even Sir Alex adapted and evolved when bringing in Quieroz who he took ideas from and put on to the pitch and Sir Alex had been THE dominant manager of that era BEFORE bringing Quieroz in, whether Jose would actually allow himself to listen though is another thing.

Any chance we get the bald guy next door as our attacking coach? :(

At least if he loses the ball or makes an error, we won't immediately concede a goal.

Well he's shown he has the capacity to unsettle a defence and trouble even the worlds best keeper.. might be onto something here

No. Before the liverpool game this question would have been absurd. A magical attacking coach will not take away the injuries and international break effect that it has had on us.

Somehow other teams seem to have less trouble with the international breaks than we do, even if their players have travelled a lot further than ours and if we are talking injuries that means without Bailly and Fellaini we cannot attack or play football? Without Fellaini we lost our long ball man and if we can only attack by hoofing the ball to Fellaini we have got more problems than we thought.

Mou needs to step up big time. Lukaku will not get any rest until Zlatan comes in. Really?? Well, Romelu looks knackered already and we are not even into November yet. What are Rashford and Martial, attacking wingers, wingers, central strikers, wide forwards? What are the roles of Matic, Herrera and Fellaini? Will Carrick be used again? How does Mou see our FBs roles? Is he happy? how do we reach any sort of cohesion in our play, if we are not really sticking to a certain formation and players are tasked with different roles? How many years and billions will it take us to start playing with some intensity, cohesion and as a solid team against top opposition?

You actually think we were playing great prior to the international break? We were largely poor in nearly every game until around the 70th minute.

Fortunately the last 20mins and extra time are by the book part of the game, no?

What a ridiculous accusation to make of a team historically known for late winners

So he's attacking say 80-90% of the time is what you're saying?

I think he drills players about the defensive tactics and what not. He lets the attackers figure it out themselves with minimal input from him. Obviously, this worked wonderfully well with that Madrid side. Those counter attacks were just pure joy to watch.

Not sure it works great with this team though. Everyone seems to be doing their own thing, and play like they are playing with each other for the first time. Absolutely no cohesion between our attackers. We will do much better by spending big and buying world class players, but he should be doing better with this team.

No. The first bit of my post was in agreement with another posters annoyance with the use of the word 'myth ' by other posters ie, ..its a myth that Jose is a defensive coach blah blah.

My POV is.

Its not a myth. He's a defensive coach.

But surely by 'quality' you're referring to the top what 5-6 in the league? On top of that I'd argue only away games.

That means the majority of the time he's an attacking coach in the league apart from 6 games a season?
