Its a bit like Ronaldo. If he wants to leave, let him. If he wants to stay then great. The one thing that Deschamps might have got right is the covid thing. Maybe he hasn't fully recovered? Either way, to get back into the starting XI his performances must improve. The times he has come on he hasn't been that effective. He can't shoot and he can't defend, he is literally a quarter back. If he gets closed down he is easy to nullify and opposition managers know it. When he does play well he is glorious to watch. City away from home is one game he demonstrated his ability. Since then he has been OK mostly with some decent displays here and there. Thats not good enough for a player that wants to consider himself an elite footballer, no matter what football club or manager they play for. If he could consistently display the kind of form that makes us all realise he has world class ability then he could easily be a Balon D'Or nominee, if not winner, but consistency just isn't there, and Man Utd need players that are consistent.
