Had a look. 697 league appearances with Stoke and Blackpool. All bar 3 years of a 33!!!!! year career were in the top flight, it appears. Of course the war put paid to six years of him in his prime.

Big Papi do you have any information on scoring in consecutive seasons in the top flight?

So far the only people I can find close to Giggs is Scholes-19 seasons.

He had the winner on his foot. Brought some much needed experience and technical skill into our side

I like how Madrid have a touch of class when it comes to great players. I remember when they even applauded Ronaldinho and later Messi as well when they were raping them.

The Madrid fans applauding Giggs was genuinely class.

Gone up in my estimation after that.

They know when a legend is in their presence and most likely for the last time.

That was class from the Madrid fans alright. If I remember correctly the Bilbao fans did the same too. Great to see opposing fans like that acknowledge and show players like Giggs the respect he deserves.

Moments like these make you feel proud that fans in general have respect for the game and luckily we have players like that in our club who demand respects from opposition. I think Scholes has similar effect on other fans too but of course not as obvious as Giggsy

Class greeting from the Madrid fans for his appearance - Giggs said in the MUTV interview that he didn't expect it and was taken aback by it :D

Ok cameo from the old boy. Still trying to work out why he didn't just shoot first time instead of taking that touch in the box though.

THAT tackle on ozil was brilliant...has always had that though, such a precise and clean tackle...maldini-esque
Was a great tackle that. And then gets up takes the ball and runs past the next player. Shows he still has plenty of energy left to give United even at this age

My guess was that he thought the two defenders were going to dive in to block the shot, and he was planning to just check past them and slot it in. But they didn't buy the dummy.

I couldn't fecking believe he didn't hit it.

Was hilarious when he did that perfect tackle on Ozil and followed it up by running round Arbeloa  He's 39!

I practically stood up in the living room and put my left foot through it my self, couldn't believe it when he didn't leather that.

He looked a bit surprised coming up one on one, it's not very usual these days for him. I also believe he had the ball on his right and he wanted to take the shot with his left. That delayed the situation and they catched up on him. It was a bit frustrating to say the least.

I don't think enough is being made of his 'chance' - because he didn't actually shoot and miss I imagine. Was one of our best chances of the night, and strangely, despite his experience, he appeared to almost bottle it. Ball sat up perfectly, inside the penalty box on his stronger foot, and he looked to pass the buck, although there was no obvious opportunity to do so.

Think if that chance had fallen to a younger player they'd have just blasted it. Giggs with so much composure and experience thought he could take a touch. Unfortunately the defenders read it.

I actually thought he had a poor game. Or we gave him some very strange instructions because there was acres of space down that left wing once he came on. He was obviously told to tuck in as he always is and leaving Arbeloa free with loads of space is the kind of thing we've done really effectively up against Ivanovic before, but when Evra tucked in alongside his centre backs it just left the entire left wing free and Ozil, Higuain and Khedira kept going on the outside with hardly any pressure. Not sure whether we just wanted to get as many men in the middle as possible but I'd assume he was told to try and help out in centre mid and on the wing depending on the situation. At various points it seemed like he was standing about in the middle with no man close to him while a Madrid player just drifted out to the wing to pick up the ball and put us under more and more pressure.

That classic slide tackle though, I love how he manages to look effortlessly graceful even when he's winning the ball back. Easily one of the best I've seen at it.

I think that was down to tactics, more then Giggs himself. I think Fergie was probably fairly comfortable letting them attack down our left side, which is why Both he and Evra were tucked in and would have to sprint out once play down that side actually manifested into something dangerous.

I think he was fine when he came on, seemed to have a calming presence on our team and we played some decent football.

He did well for me. Once he came on, Evra was at more liberty to bomb forward too.

Giggs will obviously retire when his time at United comes to an end. But if he was one of those who just wanted to play for as long as possible without caring which club or league, you'd think he could probably continue until his 50's. His footballing brain and dedication would see to that.

Giggs is amazing. I was hugely mistaken to think he was finally winding down, he has been class recently and looked much fitter and sharper. Another year for him please, it would be brilliant if he could get to 1000 appearances for this club.

Let's not get carried away, the bloke is winding down. Still wouldn't like to see him start many games, but he's certainly found some form which is delightful to watch (apart from when he doesn't shoot).

I practically stood up in the living room and put my left foot through it my self, couldn't believe it when he didn't leather that.

I was sat on one of those chairs with a fold out leg rest. I jumped forward, as if to go to the edge of my seat and the whole bastarding thing rocked forward and I ended up on my arse in the middle of the living room.
