Sir Ryan Giggs

Let's not get carried away, the bloke is winding down.

I don't see it. I think aside from a weaker spell last season, he's basically been looking about as good as he is now for the past 3 years or so. Obviously at some point he will get worse... I mean, he has to, doesn't he?... but I don't think he's any less fit or substantially slower than he was at 35, and mentally he's just as sharp (except when he doesn't shoot...).

I was sat on one of those chairs with a fold out leg rest. I jumped forward, as if to go to the edge of my seat and the whole bastarding thing rocked forward and I ended up on my arse in the middle of the living room.

I'm still sporadically shouting "shoot!" every few minutes.

Yeah maybe. He's certainly looking a lot sharper than he did not too long back.
I don't want to go back to starting him and go back to playing that dullard football we were playing though (not necessarily because of him), just as we're starting to play a bit nicer stuff.
If he keeps putting in performances off the bench though it's definitely a treat for the eyes (except when he doesn't shoot).

I think there's an argument to be made that he's been the exact same player for about six seasons now. Watching him press Howard in the 88th minute the other day made me wonder when exactly his decline is going to happen. It hardly seems imminent.

It's a little disappointing that he still seems like the only player in our team to be able to constantly deliver clever passes to our strikers to create direct chances for them.

Though Carrick has brought that into his game this season, and Kagawa has his moments, I still feel we need a Giggs/Iniesta-esque maestro who is obviously younger than Giggs himself. That kind of service is invaluable to our strikers.

He had found some form out of the blue. Hope he keeps it going till the end of the season because his experience in the business end of the season is invaluable.

I think with Giggs, Kagawa, Rooney, Nani and occasionally Carrick and Cleverley we do have players who can unpick a fefence. It's just that Kagawa hasn't really happened yet, Nani has turned into a zombie and Wayne's not having his best season.

And RVP's still banged in 23 goals, makes you wonder eh.

I do think Wayne is getting into some decent form, I reckon he was just tired on Wednesday even if it had the classic hallmarks of Wayne coming out of a purple patch. Kagawa wasn't too bad against Southampton either. It said a lot though that we went away in Europe and didn't play any wingers, very unlike us.

And to think people were calling for this man's head at the start of the season. Feed the Welshman, and he will tear you apart.

Just seen this. Age of our squad when Giggs made his Utd debut:

Remember not to criticise Giggs if he plays badly, it's cool to "appreciate" him again.
From the match day thread.
Good, sensible post from a good sensible poster.

Btw Giggsy has been magnificent today.

Good performance. His goal was wonderfully taken, made it look so easy.

999th senior appearance according to the BBC. Legend.

Definitely can play another season. One of all time best attacking midfielder.

Shouldn't be playing any more
Can't do it on the wing anymore
Should only come off the bench as an impact sub
Shouldn't feature against good teams
Shouldn't start games
Should never play in central midfield

Any other statements this man has proved wrong in the past 2 months? Great performance again from Giggsy, caused them all sorts of problem running from central areas.

He was very good today, thank you for proving me wrong.

Me too. As long as he is used sparingly and not over played then I see no harm in having him in the squad. He clearly still has a lot to offer.

Yup. Such a shame, some of the fans don't appreciate his genius.

He attempted the right footed chip IMO.

Started with some sloppy passing but more than made up for it. I still think it's better to have him on out wide with Cleverley in the middle, I feel he can be just as influential from that position while it gives us more energy in midfield.

Glad he decided to play proper football in the 2nd half

... he started playing "proper football" after about 15/20 minutes. There were a few sloppy passes at the start, but after that he was great. His passing, running from deep, closing down, harrying and generally just being Ryan Giggs caused QPR all sorts of problems... plus, he had a big hand in both goals.

Another great match, the way SAF is managing him this season is nothing short of brilliant. He doesn't play a lot but when he does it almost always is a great match

Exactly, he was good and got better after a shaky start. I think some make their minds up on a players performance after 10 mins

I was worried he may get overrun in that midfield. In fact it was the opposite. They were struggling to keep track of his movements and his desire to drive the ball forward. It's always nice to see him get on the scoresheet as well.

It was one of his more careless games in possession, but he made up for it with some strong creative play, tireless work-rate, winning possession leading to the first goal and scoring the second.

I'd generally rather not see him start in a two-man midfield, especially away from home, but what can you say, him and Carrick controlled things fairly easily.

not the usual swinger from Giggsy

:nervous:

Didn't think he could still do it in a midfield two, and he probably wouldn't be able to if it was any other team, but fair play to him he was brilliant.
