Sky Sources : Blind and Mata set to leave this summer.

Our entire team creates nothing bar Martial, Martial is our best forward, then Mata. It says nothing as all of our forwards arent good enough bar Martial. Compared to Ozil, Eriksen, de Bruyne, Reus etc, Mata is indeed not very creative. As in assists/chances created/key passes.

In terms of key passes from open play in the last three years, Mata made 132 key passes while Ozil made 207 key passes.

You mean he pissed off the caf or the sky sources ;)
:D
I'm probably wrong, but I always felt that José got rid of Mata because Juan was a Rafa loyalist; I hope Mourinho's not doing the same thing now that Mata is at United.

I think its unfair to talk Mata down. He's a top player. He simply doesn't offer what Mourinho wants from a #10.

Mata reminds me a lot of Riquelme: a talented, physically unimposing play maker, whose strengths are technique and ability to open defences. If you have a player like that in your team, everything has to be built around him. The way you construct your midfield must compensate for his lack of strength and speed. It affects the football you play, you can't really have a high energy pressing game with that type of player in your team. That does not mean that players like Mata and Riquelme are bad or uncreative. Its just to play to their strengths requires a different type of football. Not the football that Mourinho uses to be successful.
I think Mata and Riquelme shouldnt be compared in any way, talking about the current Mata. Even for Spain he cant really impress, he's more of a goalscorer there, but compared to Santi, Iniesta, Silva, Isco there, he seems very limited on the ball.

I fear yet another season of:

"Let's be fair and let the bad players try to improve."
"Let's be fair and give the established players due respect despite their underachievement."
"Let's keep the old guard onside."
"Let's not disrupt things too much even though there's complacency."

Hhhmmm... Fair.

This point maybe further highlights the need for a director of football, because we'll probably face this issue every three or four years now with how often I suspect we'll appoint a new manager.

Wouldn't be surprised if Blind goes but I'd be fecking gutted.

Mata I've sort of accepted he needs to go for the sake of his career.

Blind is average and Mata is too slow. Just hope Jose doesnt do a van gaal and not replace them...

How Rojo isnt part of that is worrying.

I trust Mourinho's decision making on things like this. They're both compromised by blatant weaknesses and he's doing right thing getting rid.

Hipster.

Time to admit that Mata was an expensive mistake and get rid while we can still get a good fee for him.

It hasn't worked out.

I dislike the Dortmund love if that in anyway solidifies my comments.

But I do believe we'll change managers a lot nowadays, I don't think it's possible for one man to stay as long as Ferguson did at one club in the modern game.

Our squad isn't strong enough to be offloading two players that probably put more minutes on the pitch than any others this season. Would be insane.

Unlikely that we will ship too many players out this season. I also believe that Mourinho wants a bigger squad

:D I agree but apparently adapting to new circumstances equates to being trendy.

If anyones NOT going to follow those ideas its Mourinho. Gotta wait and see but I'm hoping Mourinho makes his mark on the squad asap.

Mata needs to go anyway so not fussed about that at all. Blind I am a little surprised about but if rumours about Reece Oxford are true and if we are looking to develop TFM properly, we need to open up some pathways into the first team for the youngsters.

Those two could be brilliant utility players who are more Mourinho type of players and therefore Blind would be surplus to requirements yet we could get a very good fee for him.

The ball shrinking influence of United's post Ferguson managerial job also described as OTM syndrom? Nah, there's no such thing.... yet.

I hope this isn't true. I don't know what problem he had with Mata so can't comment if he wants rid. But why Blind? He's quite versatile, intelligent and one of the few players that I think is quite professional. If he was loyal to VG, so what? You should be loyal to the manager. Mourinho coming in wont' mean that Blind's professionalism will disappear. Plus, imagine giving an ailing Carrick a new contract, and not getting rid of Fellaini or Rojo?
I hope we don't end up with a team of thugs with little creativity, otherwise I'm gonna be pissed at Mo.

If he also thinks keeping the 'old guard' on side is the best thing for him, I suggest he looks at the last two managers who did that and where it got them.

They are probably inventing the story, although it stands to reason that we will be moving several prominent players out to reduce our wage output and net spend for when we buy the players Mourinho wants.

I just don't see what Mata does that someone else couldn't do with added extras.

He's not great at keeping hold of the ball under pressure (he's usually forced backwards/sideways the second he's pressurised) or going past people; he can't carry the ball down the pitch as an out-ball, and whilst he works hard(er), he isn't a defensively astute player.
He basically takes a good set piece and has a good finish. He's pretty much a forward, but for some reason people try to convince themselves he's a number 10.

Mata's overall game just isn't that strong, and I don't see any top manager building a top side around him with the gaps in his game.

He's a bench player for any serious team, and his wages are too high. United should be aiming to build a serious team in the immediate future, so he should go back to Valencia or go to West Ham or someone. It's more his level.

Blind is just... there. Not much changes whether he stays or goes.

In fairness, Mata was asked by his manager to make (non key) back/side passes.
We can't really blame Mata for that.

LVG was the most defensive manager I have ever seen, in the last 2 decades, so our attackers can't really be judged on what he made them do.
Some managers like Simeone (A.Madrid) and even Jose, go ultra defensive against top teams, but the difference is that against lesser teams, they play with attack. LVG on the other hand, played ultra defensively, no matter who the opposition. Even against A.Villa, he would play ultra defensively.

I cannot understand what the hell happened to LVG, to make him so scared (risk averse) of virtually every team we ever played.

That Leicester game happened early in his United career. Must have shit himself when they battered us.

Wonder if it's just paper talk. I'd like to keep both but, to be honest, if Jose wants rid then I'm fine with it. I just don't think he'll get rid of players this quickly.

Doubt it was that game. It wasn't like his team were battering teams left, right and centre before that game.

I don't even think he was that defensive in his approach overall. The stats make for horrible reading, but the type of football he tried to play may have been fine (and even considered attacking) with top players. His problem was that he tried to play that football with sub-par players. Sort of like Martinez' insistence on Wigan trying to play like a team of top players when they were also sub-par.

Apparently Carrick has signed a new contract but Blind is at his best in the holding role IMO...he can ping them passes about like Rooney on his day.

I cant see why Jose would sell Blind without ever working with him. That one is probably Bullshit.

Mata on the other hand is sadly believable.

We will all remember that one game against Arsenal and igonre these medicore performances.

In this case most remember the handful of games he was bad and ignore most other very good performances most of the season

Ill never forget the West Ham game sorry. Terrible all night when the pressure was on. Dont think he can handle pressure.
