Solskjær press conference vs Palace (A)

Why aren't they asking about Fred?
Perhaps if he'd have signed him, not inherited him there would be some pressing questions.

The press have taken less that 6 weeks to learn that they will not force a "click-bait" answer out of Ole. So leading questions that would have normally been levelled at Jose for fun have been binned in lieu of actually football insights. Solskær, the gift that just keeps giving!

Does anyone think if fit, Jones might be in with an involvement in midfield?

Only as emergency cover on the bench. McTom can fulfil the Matic role, particularly in a game where Palace will probably sit back and rely on direct counters

From the looks of it, there is one spot for the youngster in the starting eleven - perhaps Gomes as a false 9

Never mind Valencia, what's going on with Herrera?

Looks like Perreira, McTominay, Pogba in midfield again. Lukaku, Sanchez and ? up top. I can't see Rashford playing if they can't even assess his ankle properly yet. Throw Chong or Gomez in I say.

Sounds like Gomes at the tip of the diamond (reading between the lines) as OGS seemed to indicate Chong could come off the bench

Dalot at Full back and Young on the wing? Interchangeable, with the brief that Dalot can run on and sling in crosses and Young can fall back to cover?

Hope Chong gets a start.

Is Greenwood still injured? I thought it was just a knock

Going to be a really really tough few weeks.

If we get through this next month still in the top 4 race then I think we'll make top 4 easy.

I know it's been done to death.

But can you imagine a Mourinho press conference with us missing 7 or 8 players?

He was fecking miserable with everyone fit and things going well, God knows what he would have been like in this situation.

I'm aware of his level, and generally agree. But considering this away game, we might need a more physical presence in midfield. Hopefully Scott can handle this and we don't need Jones to come in.
I’d have far more confident of Scott playing against Palace. I think you can depend on him and though I’m a fan of Jones I’d like to see Scott get a run of games with the injuries we have. It will only improve him and give him more confidence. ( not that he’s a player who lacks it anyway. Seems a well grounded lad.)

Considering all injuries, OGS only has two options:
1) start at least one of the youngsters
2) start Fred

And then he goes on and does the unthinkable, 3) starts Young on the wing.

God his attitude is so refreshing after that previous ballbag.

Basically:
Injury crisis? No problem, our youngsters are brilliant and you’ll see them on Wednesday.

Very refreshing the difference between them as managers. All Mourinho’s moaning was really depressing and I’m sure must have filtered down to the team.
Ole’s positive attitude of “we’ve got injuries but will deal with it “ players need to come in and take their chances so much better.

He'd probably start quoting the injury lists from the rest of the top four (top 8 if he was still in charge) and how everything has gone against him and how other clubs have spent more.

Man, feck that negative black hole of energy.

The youngsters won't start.

Mctominay/Periera/Pogba/Fred/Sanchez/lukaku will be the team.

We could potentially use Gomes as a 10 but i'd be surprised if he started. Away at palace is never an easy game.

Dalot might get a start if young isn't feeling fresh but against Zaha could be tricky. Not sure Dalot will want that.

Why? He could start with Mctominay and Perrera (unless you count them as youngsters, in which case fair enough)

We have 2 attackers (Sanchez and lukaku) and 3 midfielders (Pogba, McTominay and pereira) available for 6 slots. So you simply must add Fred or a youngster (or change the formation completely)

"Well, the three we had to take off [Herrera, Lingard, Mata], they're not going to be ready,” Solskjaer told MUTV.

“As for Rashy [Marcus Rashford], we're going to work on him for as long as we can to see if he gets ready because that wasn't as bad as we first feared, so luckily I don't think we damaged it any more by him finishing the game.

”He might have a chance of playing. Then again I don't think there'll be anyone else coming back for this game. So there'll be a chance for the kids.

Ooh that's promising at least. If he doesn't make tomorrow then Southampton at the weekend looks doable.

I wouldn't rule out Rashford playing the game. It was a knock and not a muscular injury. Generally I would think there is much less risk in doing any more damage to it. It will hurt and he might need to play with tape/bandages, but that's part of the game really. If we can line up with Pogba, McTominay, Pereira behind Sanchez, Rashford, Lukaku we should be in fairly good shape.

Others have suggested a Young/ Dalot on the attacking right in a 433.

It could work, but I think that's a bit negative against a Palace side that usually sit back. The Diamond of Gomes behind Lukaku and Sanchez would be my preference

Rashford to make another shock return? Remember he was ruled out before Newcastle away but turned up and grabbed a goal and assist.

Right, I was just thinking about the midfield not the attack. Although there is a chance for Rashford to be playing too.

Can’t help it...still feel optimistic about facing Palace.
Ole’s positivity is contagious:)

Yes, Olly has been a breath of Fresh air after so much morbidity, it heartens me greatly. It must be strengthening team moral greatly.
It should be a great match to watch.

I'd keep both Rashford and Martial on ice till the Southampton game at the weekend. If Rashford isn't injured now he will be by never getting a rest

Its such a joy to watch these press conferences. We are in a really bad spot injury wise and could easily have give some excuses because Palace away is not going to be easy but he has not. Can you imagine a Mourinho press conference in this situation? Or even Klopp if he had Mane, Firminho, Salah, Fabinho & Wijnaldum missing?

We could always play 3-4-1-2 if we don’t want to start with any more youngsters or put Fred in.

3 CBs (Smalling centre, Bailly right, Lindelof left) that allow Young and Shaw to push higher up the pitch to provide width. McT and Pog in the middle, Andreas at AMC with Lukaku and Sanchez up top.

The options are there, it’s still a fairly strong squad for Palace game at least.

We can beat Palace and Southampton without them. Psg doesnt matter either - Arsenal in less than 2 weeks is the most important one right now and if any of them are risks to re-injure themselves, save them for that one.

Solskjaer praises Gomes, Chong and Garner
They’ve been part of our training for a long time now and I’m sure Angel has been successful with England’s under-17s, the 2017 team with Sancho, Foden and Hudson-Odoi, so he’s been a big part of that. I’m definitely sure that if he gets a chance he’ll do well.

James Garner is a Michael Carrick but 20 years younger, I’m sure he’ll do well and Chongy will be taking people on if he comes on. They’re ready, they’re kids. It’s hard if you’re a defender coming on if you’re 16 or 17 but as an attacker you go out there and express yourself, and there’s your chance. They can win you the game, not lose it for you.

Love the underlined quote - music to my ears this. Further proof that this guy just gets the United way.
