Solskjaer

- So you're MFK manager and plans to be the future?

- I have spoken to Aston Villa. I'm not offered anything and have not negotiated anything. I am a richer experience, and I will exercise in Molde on Saturday. I have two years left on my contract, says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Interesting. So what is the opinion? Will he stay or go? From that he sounds committed to Molde.

- I said a flat no to many requests that have come to my contacts, both clubs who play in the Premier League next season and will play in the Champions League. But Aston Villa are a big club that I think it was right to talk to them.

This is interesting too. Nice that he decided to speak to them personally but what were the other clubs in the Premier League and Champions League that he decided that it wasn't right to talk to them?

Doesn't Ole also have a clause stating he can negotiate if any Premiership clubs pursue him?

Seems ridiculously petty by Røkke.
According to Eirik: "News today says that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a contract clause stating that he can leave for Premier League after two years. Solskjaer himself says that he won't use this clause, unless there is an opportunity at "a PL club in the Manchester area"."

I just heard a telephone interview with Solskjær on Nyhetskanalen (was Davy drunk?) where he (graciously?) said he assumes that Røkke must have considered it thoroughly for a while.

I would guess at Wolves, maybe Blackburn.

Molde in meltdown! http://fotball.rbnett.no/multimedia/archive/00164/1205_Aker_og_Molde__164428a.pdf

I can't bother translating or explaining at the moment. Well, short explanation: Their sugerdaddies are selling their share in the club due to Solskjær talking to Villa without answering three questions he was asked yesterday.

Here's the google translation of the letter with minor changes by myself for clarity.

Aker withdraws from Molde FK for the season

Aker and Røkke over the past 20 years have helped to give Molde FK stable regulatory framework and economic predictability. This is an investment in the community and a strong involvement in the town of Molde and surrounding areas.

It is a good basis for the state of sports in Molde FK. Last year it was crowned with the league title. It achieved a local and regional involvement that goes far beyond the football field. Aker is proud to have been a contributor.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has not hidden the fact that one day he could think of returning to England. Nevertheless, Aker is surprising that he dropped Friday's workout, and headed to England in public for informal talks with Aston Villa before the three major league games in a week.

On 17 May Solskjaer was given three questions from Aker via the club's general manager. 1) Are you planning to leave the current League season? 2) Would you take part of the support? 3) Would you take with you some of MFKs squad over time? These sports goals were not answered by Solskjaer before he went to England.

"This is perceived as incompatible with the MFK community that we are both a part of," says Røkke, Aker ASA's chairman and principal owner.

Aker has decided to offer shares in its wholly owned subsidiary, Molde Football AS Molde FK, for a total of 1 Krone. Molde Football AS stands for the operation of Molde FK. Aker will then take a loss of NOK 25 million on the write-down of shares in Molde Football. The club will be debt free at the acquisition date, and have 25 million in equity. Molde FK will also have the right to rent the stadium for a crown a year after the club has covered maintenance costs.

"Aker will complete the season in a proper manner and contribute funds in accordance with their budget," says Røkke.

Aker and Røkke have 20 years invested in the community. This is not done for their own economic interests, but to be one of the many contributors to the club.

"For me, it was important to be a part of the community [Molde FK] where no individuals take precedence over club. I want to thank the sponsors, players, support staff, supporters, volunteers and financial contributors for their good cooperation. Bjorn Rune Gjelsten lined up with extra money for the purchase of players on long-term contracts as Sokskjaer was hired as manager," says Røkke and continues,

"Personally, there have been many sporting highlights and downs, but the very greatest is to be part of a common loss. With a modern stadium and clean economy is a good opportunity for Molde FK delivered new powers and impulses," says Røkke.

After Molde FK and Ole himself have spoken tonight, it's starting to look like Røkke has over reacted in extreme ways, and that this whole situation is a matter of bad communication between the club, Røkke and Ole. Embarrassing for the club, really. Also, by pulling out, Røkke is hurting the club and not Ole, which is the person he seems to be angry at.

Looking forward to the press conference tomorrow. Hopefully at least the club and Ole will be able to sort things out, and whatever Røkke decides to do, I will thank him for everything he's done for the club trough the last 20 years, and pray to god the Molde FK board can keep the boat afloat without him.

Miscommunication seemed to me the only possible explanation, that's good news, hopefully it will turn out that 'April Fools Day' is May 18th in Norway.

May 18th is the day after our Independence Day. Someone celebrated too hard.

(That's Røkke in a bunad.)

I'm surprised (if he does leave) that he won't take Molde into the champions league. He'll not be short of offers over here until he takes one so there shouldn't be a rush.

Biggest news so far, from the press conference: The club and Ole has agreed that there is no reason to do anything with the current contract situation, which means Ole will stay at Molde.

After this session, it is now the club and the board members that are looking like the bad guys in my eyes, and I think many supporters will see it the same way. Just amazingly unprofessional and poor media handling from the club. Clowns.

Good decision by Ole, thinking of the bigger picture. get back to back league wins and a decent performance in the CL and he'll get better offers elsewhere.

There is still a chance that Ole will go to Aston Villa, but he hasn't got any offers at the moment. If they offer him the job, then he will have to sit down and think it through, and this time hopefully together with the Molde FK board members. The only thing decided as of now, is that Solskjær will not be sacked because of this incident, and that Solskjær don't have any plans of leaving because of it.

If anything, Nordstrand Jacobsen (Director of Molde FK) should walk. You can see from the way he handles himself in the press conference that he knows he's made a right mess of things, and they are trying to shift the blame to Ole-Gunnar.

Basically he gave OGS permission to go to Birmingham and talk to Villa, but then retracted when the media got a hold of it. This put OGS in an impossible position as far as I'm concerned, because Villa had already sent a private jet to pick him up, and he would look like a right fool if he had then decided to back out of the deal and not go over there after all.

Nordstrand Jacobsen also confirms that OGS answered the three questions posed by Aker as they were presented to him, which makes their statement look all the more foolish.

And on top of this, you have the leader of the MFK supporter club coming out with absolutely idiotic statements like this: "If Solskjær wants to leave the area with a certain dignity, he has a job to do in the next months."

I mean, seriously?

Has he made a decision?

And I'm still curious, what would you consider a better offer than a currently underperforming Aston Villa?

As I said before, I'd suggest to Ole to go to a different league and get another title winning side under his belt. Lyon, PSV are clubs that would be good for him. Sides that haven't won the league in 4/5 years but have a strong squad who are capable of going far into CL/Europa as well as challenging for the title.

Says he will not be the new Aston Villa manager after deciding to stay on at Molde.

Not quite true. He said he hasn't been offered the job at Aston Villa so as of this moment he is still the Molde manager which is different to turning down a job as he cannot turn down something that he hasn't yet been offered. It does look likely he will stay at Molde though.

Where has he said this? All he's saying is that he has not received an offer from Villa.

I took that from the BBC sport twitter feed:

BBC Sport ‏@BBCSport
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he will not be the new Aston Villa manager after deciding to stay on at Molde. More to follow soon #avfc

And SSN says, "Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will not be taking over as Aston Villa manager"

Well, that's just not true, because it is not what he said. All he's said, is that he's got no job offer from them as of now, but if he get one, he will have to handle it then.

Ignore them. Best to listen to the Norwegian posters on here. Ole won't have changed from his stance in the press conference this morning to just turn around and say that he's staying at Molde and that's it. What the BBC, Talk Sport and Sky are saying will have been derived from the press conference but what they're saying is inaccurate. He said that he's received no job offer from Villa but if they do then he'll handle it from there.

Here's a post by a Norwegian poster on one of the Villa forums:

Backing this one as a fellow norwegian that watched the press conference.

He didnt JUST say "I have two years left on my contract and I intend to stay".

He said "in football, as with any other jobs or anything else in life for that matter, you have no guarantees. Things show up and you have to deal with situations as they arises. I cant say that we will keep all of our players just because they are under contract. It depends on them, the club and the timing and quality of the offer. I am an ambitious man, I have made it no secret that i want to manage in england one day. That being said, I do want to stress that i have not been out looking for a job. I have not contacted anyone, but rather been contacted. i have already turned down a few premier league clubs and even champion league clubs that wanted to talk to me. When Aston Villa contacted me however, and offered me a private jet so that I would be ready for training the lads the next day, I wanted to speak to them. I contacted the owner (of molde) and was given the green light to do so. In that manner, the only thing I am sorry about is all this hassle that came out of it. There has not been contract negotiation. I have not been offered a job at Aston Villa. We have simply met to get to know each other. They will also speak to other candidates and I do not know whats going to happen from here. So as of today I have two years left on my contract and I intend to stay."

Meaning, since he hasnt been offered a job elsewhere. He obviously intends to stay

Damien is spot on. He hasn't ruled out anything. It would be stupid of him to do so, as he has ambitions to be a Premier League manager, which he again stated today.

Seems odd that he'd be annoyed.

Surely he's quite flattered with the interest?

I don't understand why you think that way. Ole is a confident person and always is ambitious in his career. Calm, but ambitious. Humble yet firm and knows what he can achieve. Is only natural that if those who can appreciate his quality will come knocking his door. There's nothing flattering in this whole situation.

Ole is an honest and forthright person and you mustn't forget that.

There's nothing flattering in this whole situation.

Yes there is, a big Premier League club is interested in you after just 1yr of senior management... that's flattering.

This is Aston Villa we're talking about, it's as though some of you think of them as a Wigan or something similar.

Agree, seems like Nordstrand Jacobsen has made a right mess of it. And they're now saying that OGS did indeed answer the three questions?! They're just not happy with the answers.

I am glad Ole will never be hearing Of your suggestion and giving it thoughts. :)

In Ole's situation, its a great achievement taking Molde to glory for the first time in their history. He doesn't need to prove himself in some other league before taking on a task in England, because we know he's not experienced (which makes the success in his first managerial career even more admirable). Coming to the premiere league is a challenge and an experience in itself. Such endeavour should not be regarded as a lesser ambition.

I'm also suspicious about what OGS was told after the jet arrived. Something TNJ said, I can't remember what, made me think it wasn't a exactly direct order to give the trip a miss.

Tough jobs, titles expected. Lyon up against the spending power of PSG too.

Don't take up career advising.

So, will you be saying if King Eric is asked to be interviewed at Villa, he should feel flattered as well? Eric hasn't proved himself as a manager but I am 100% certain he would not treat it as flattering. Why should Ole?

One should never regard Ole as just another green manager who looks for an opportunity in any club. Ole is a humble person but he's full of confidence (since he himself knows what he can do... ) In the program where MUTV followed his life in Molde, he made no secret he wants to coach United one day. That's how confident he is in himself.

Most managers would love the chance to manage Aston Villa, they are a massive club.
