Solskjaer's legacy and his future

I don't think that Rangnick is more revered than Ole around here, but my two cents on the topic.

First, Ralf is considered a somewhat good at tactics (if you ask Klopp or Tuchel that is) while Ole runs on passion-nicknames-nostalgia-in my time we used to something.

And two let's not forget the state of the team when Ralf came and the toxicity that was set in like when Ole came after Mou, with players not wanting to fecking run (Rashford, Martial...), players not performing (Bruno, Lump...) or players choosing which game they'd play(Cavani, Ronaldo). All in all broken squad. Sure Ralf wasn't a good fit, but I think he wasn't a good fit for this particular side, thinking they were better than what they actually were.
Bruno, Lump (Maguire), Cavani, Ronaldo were Ole signings. 3 of them did well, even if 2 were completely not what we needed at that stage. But I might have misunderstood that part of your post so apologies in advance.

I agree about the issues that RR faced with those players not wanting to put in the work or choosing when they played.

That’s, arguably, been one of the things that ETH has done well to remould the culture. He’s bought in strong characters especially Martinez who are loyal to him but also infectious. This then influences other players to adapt, especially when you add Casemiro a winner, Varane playing like the boss that he is etc like they say the attitude and culture of every dressing is usually always determined by 3-4 players.

Was pretty close too. Would have cost us about £40m too. His Arsene Wenger moment!

To add to this Rangnick isn't revered for his managerial record, there's not much to compare on that front. He's liked for trying to bring some injection of common sense to our management policy. The number of hardheads opposing them at the time made him look even more like nostradamus. That thread isn't quoted enough because the amount of dishonesty around some of those recommendations are appalling. 7-8 signings for example was a meme all summer.

I think Ralph Rangnick is the necessary bitter pill just what United need.

He has completely shown that our players are the biggest problem, their attitude, and the culture that is rotten.

ETH has the benefit of the team being exposed, that they have much less leverage media wise, they've been shown to be the problem. At the start of the season not many would object if ETH wants to sell anyone, from Bruno to Rashford to DDG nobody is given any preferential treatment. All of that would not happen without RR

Just how, exactly?

Tbh you guys looked like you were being remade.. then you signed ronaldo.

Remade? We looked a fecking joke.

You still do. But now again you’re at least working towards something, as I though you were before you regressed when you got ronaldo. I said «being», as in working towards something. Ronaldo was a mistake, which is why EVERY other big Club didnt want to buy him in the summer.

We still look shite? Erm nah.

But we did reach the final of the EL and had something like 77 points.
I'd take it in a heartbeat this season.
74 points. Also losing an EL final to Villareal in your 3rd season after dropping out of the CL group is not a positive for me.

Do you think we can realistically get there this season ? With a better manager and better players?

The only United manager post Fergie to get back to back CL football. It clearly wasn’t a shite time.

Tbh some United “fans” are just odd.

Is that the standard "fans" should be aspiring for? Being content with top 4? We played largely rudderless football and came unstuck when it mattered. We didn't even make it out of the CL group stages after losing to RB Leipzig. It wasn't working with Ole.

Fully agree with you. United should aspire to be an elite club and that means titles matter, nothing else. The only reason top 4 should matter is because it enables you to win the CL. Once you start treating top 4 as a success itself you become another Arsenal.

When you're so far up Ole's arse you'll bend the truth to big him up. No need to outright lie though. I hope you learn from your mistakes, and my door is always open for a DM, if you want more worldly advice, kiddo.
:nervous:

He clearly wanted Haaland and we did approach Bellingham. It’s just wasn’t meant to be. Move on, guys
