Some praise for Jose

Honestly, its kinda a shame we didnt just bring him in last December and give him that 4-5 month free pass to work it out.

I'm glad he didn't - he was in a bad place at that time and the last thing he needed was the pressure and glare of the media that comes with being United manager.

I do think his time at Madrid in terms of attacking play was underappreciated by some

Under appreciated in general I'd say. They've won the league twice in the last ten years and Jose was at the helm for the most recent when Barca were at their peak.

Listening to the post match interview the much maligned Smalling substitution makes sense.

He knew that Carroll was coming on after we had scored and Carrick wouldn't be able to handle him.So he brought Smalling into the defense and moved Carrick back to control the midfield.

I like such proactive subs.

It makes me angry that he wasn't the one to immediately succeed Fergie.

It was clear as day back then and is even more clear now that he is the man with the big enough balls and ego to take on the job.

Absolute waste of 3 seasons with Dithering Dave and the Deluded Dutchman.

Spot on. His game management this evening was superb.

It also beefed up our central midfield, which cut off the supply to Carroll.

Yes.Very good subs.

Reminds me of the time we played his Real side and how quickly he changed things around after that Nani red card.

One of my biggest gripe with the previous management team was the sheer refusal to react to reacwhat was happening in the game. Do not miss the mandatory 79th minute fullback substitutions.

Pretty puch this. His management was excellent today. Only negative about this display is that he has to stop starting with Darmian. If not Dean had been such useless referee i'm not sure we would have kept a clean sheat the way we were playing with Darmian. If this continues it will cost us.

I'd even much rather have TFM as a left back than Darmian.

Credit to him endured a sticky patch back in October with full media glare on him pouncing on his every setback and alleged discomfort with living in Manchester. Might not be a nice man but he knows how to build successful teams and it is starting to come together for him. He has worked well with what he inherited, bought shrewdly and worked out his preferred starting lineup. He has made Utd solid at the back which is always a good building block for a successful team. I foresee him over this transfer window and next summer reshaping the squad to his liking having assessed what he inherited.

The main worry with the first sub, positive though it was, was how Carrick would deal with Carroll after he'd dropped back into the back four. That Jose managed to make two attacking substitutions, get the goal, then make a third to restore our balance was a huge feather in his cap. I thought it was sound management at the time and it looks better still with the points in the bag.

Subs and in game decision making has been on point recently. Signs that he's getting back to his best

Bilic should have put Carroll on before United scored. Shouldn't have waited more than a few minutes after seeing Carrick playing CB really. That would have caused problems.

Today was typical Mourinho though. Reacting to the game and making subs that make sense.

This really feels like the United of old which is something you could seldom say in the last three years, if ever. Gone are the days where we try to make it difficult for our opponents or play piss poor static football passing it between our defenders. The fear factor is slowly but surely coming back at the club. Without trying to sound too much like a scouser - oh, what the hell! - next season is our year!

He has to play Darmian considering our hectic schedule, 3 matches in the space of 7 days ?
Yeah Sub appearance for TFM would be an welcome move, but I doubt he would start with TFM.

Agreed. I saw him get a lot of flack on twitter because of it but he read the game perfectly.
Didn't they realise we were playing Carrick at CB? Bringing Smalling on was particularly impressive because he anticipated the introduction of Carroll.

Here are my two cents:

During the last two regimes, we spent massive amounts of money on many players that everyone agreed were good footballers, but looked consistently average.

Right now, we have a working system and a manager who was able to find a strong starting eleven, and a system that is allowing our players (all the squad) to flourish.

I think he has done a fantastic job, and i trust him completely.

His subs and tactics in-game during these last two games have been impeccable have been impeccable. That's the Jose Mourinho I remember and wanted at this club... not the bloke who just shuts up shop for the last 20 minutes no matter what because: reasons.

I must praise him again. Very positive and proactive yesterday. Bringing on Mata and Rash was positive, bringing Smalling to cope with Carroll was proactive.

Man for a minute yesterday I was worried he was trying to be too positive and proactive that time when Carrick went to cb. Fortunately they didn't score from their good chance, we did from ours, smalling came on shortly after and the normal team shape and balance was restored.

I'm loving it at the same time worried he's going to get carried away with this gung ho at times attacking ethos he is trying to maintain. Just hope he keeps finding the perfect balance as he has managed so far.

He's been top on and off the field. What I like is the turnaround in the mentality of the team. We look so different

His reading of the game was top notch. The Rashford sub reminded me of the Madrid game vs us, where after Nani's sending off, he sent on Modric.

Yesterday I was a bit impressed because the first half was poor, and I thought he would swap Lingard but keep the shape. Instead, he takes Damian out, as he was booked, he put Mata, and asks him to play a free electron role.

At minute 60, he then swaps Lingard for Rashford and we had the goal.

When was the last time we went 12 unbeaten?
I make it 17 games from 24th Nov 2012 - 5th March 2013 (Madrid at OT )

Shows how fecking good Ferguson was.

Call me old fashioned but I missed our manager standing at the touch line showing a full range of emotions like SAF, it seems reassuring for some reason even if it may not make a difference.

Don't know how much we have progressed stats-wise from last season, but there is a clear and visible improvement in our style of play. We are playing a more direct football, that we have been known for and its not the same rinse-repeat type of triangular passing that was the highlight of our play for last 2 years. We seem to be able to change our game dependent on the circumstances and the players do not seem to be shackled with a 'rule-book of passing'. Its enjoyable to watch us play rather than it being a chore.

If not for our lack of cutting edge in front of goal, we should have been at least 4 to 8 points better off. But despite that, Mourinho has done a tremendous job and also all his signings have been top class. I am not sure what kind of a season it will turn out to be, but I have no doubt that Mourinho is the manager we should stick with even if the second half of the season mirrors the first half.

Its amazing the amount of Chelsea supporters were spouting how amazing he was 10 years ago and 3 years ago and now they are laughing at me by saying we will only have him for 3 seasons as thats all he can handle and hes past his best.

I'm very impressed at the moment, we have hit our stride and most of the time he is picking a similar starting 11 week in week out and getting his substitutions right. I do think he understands how important it will be to replace Carrick and surely he must be realizing how rubbish Fellaini is and to a lesser degree Lingard. However my favourite thing is with Rooney, how he let him gradually play himself out of the team and we certainly look a much better team without him starting every week.
Despite his ego and past success I do believe the size of the job was weighing on him but now he is starting to look a lot more confident with his tactics and team line ups, he is also getting a bit of that sarcastic swagger back into his post match interviews recently which is very good to see again. His confidence is refreshing for the players and the whole team looks a hell of a lot more happy than in previous seasons. We could still easily miss out on top four but I am really enjoying my football again and as a fan that is the most important thing, our time challenging again will surely come sooner rather than later, add a couple of top class playing additions and with Jose we can only go up from here.

OT was getting nervous the last 2 years cause we weren't United anymore. No attacks, no counters, just having the ball and letting the watch go on. Credit to Jose and his team for all the efforts he's done.

Looks like this team is getting stronger and stronger.
Let's keep this run going!

Spot on subs. Hes had months with the players now, seeing their strengths and weaknesses and its working. Honestly, its kinda a shame we didnt just bring him in last December and give him that 4-5 month free pass to work it out.

Had we done this, I was convinced we'd (genuinely) go for the title this season.
This is why I wanted LVG gone in January. That 'LVG Out' thread got incredibly long and vitriolic.

Under appreciated in general I'd say. They've won the league twice in the last ten years and Jose was at the helm for the most recent when Barca were at their peak.

True and the fact that he has La Liga's records for most points (100) and goals (121!!!) in a season is rarely mentioned.

Agree a lot with the second point.
With the first point, thats probably fair. The break probably did him a good and long-term probably us.

Had we done this, I was convinced we'd (genuinely) go for the title this season.

OT was pretty bad after the loss against Saints. It was the worst atmosphere I was in at OT in Jan. It was atrocious football and the obvious loss (esp when everybody saw Ausin come on, the inevitable was there).

I really love his comments in post-match interview where he has to "educate himself" in this season. :D
must admit that he is very good manager and his decision in our latest matches were always correct. and with news about his sick wife, I'm amazed with how calm and professional he is.

The obvious comparison is to Pep and I think Jose really appreciates the backing that he has got from the fans, especially with his personal circumstances. Was at OT for the Boro game and he was kicking every single ball in the last 10 minutes and the atmosphere and the belief was something that was missing during the LVG tenure.

I was praying he'd take off Darmian once they went down to 10, pop Rojo out left, drop Carrick to give us better passing back there and get Mata on in the middle, and he actually did. Odd to see us have a manager do logical things. He even took off Lingard, after he gave him 10-15 minutes in the 2nd half to change his mind.
