He may only be 18, but if Scholes isn't around, I think it's time to bring in Ronaldo. We were seriously lacking in creativity today, and Kleberson needs to settle. He was horrible again.

On the plus side, I thought our defence was fairly solid. They didn't get many opportunities either.

It's the midfield that needs shifting around.

Defence did okay, but Keane had to help a lot.

Ormerod blocked off Timmy for the Beattie header, otherwise he'd have intercepted it.

don't think we even deserved it if we manage to get a draw out of it
yes we don't deserved a point by the way we played. Southampton played well, chases and win every ball.

well, i hope fergie will sort it out sooner.

im watching massive vs arse now, hope city to win ( i know it sucks, but it would be important if arsenal dropped 2 points or even losing ).

now, im regaining my confidence.

UNITED, THERE IS ONLY ONE UNITED!

I can see we're really going to miss Paul when he goes for that hernia operation.

It's no coincidence we looked a lot better on Wednesday when Scholesy and Giggsy came on and if Scholesy had been playing today...even if we didn't win at least we would have created a more going forward.

I'm not really bothered about the result because we didn't deserve to win. The worry is the next month and how we're going to cover for Scholesy. We're really short of cover there.

Man Utd were pathetic today, Southamption deserved there win today, but Howard was bloody wonderfull today

although Forlan have a few shots on target..do you guys think that he disturb the flow of our play?

Yes - he tends to overdo things & holds on to the ball too long when a simple touch on or quick pass will do & as he's a very soft touch, he will more often than not, lose out when he overruns the ball - lost too many balls & held up play unnecessarily today.

But then again, the whole team didn't play well again - for the 2nd successive match & deserved to lose - hope this game is a wake-up call because after the successful summer warm-up matches, I suspect many felt all they needed to do was to turn up to win!

None of the sides deserved to win. It was very tough game. We could score 4 goals but having Diego upfront prevented us from doing this. I am not worried. The only thing that we need is a deep breath and stabilization in lineup and tactics. We played 4 completely different matches with completely different lineups. In my opinion it is better to lose now and to have our weaknesses highlighted by the opponent now than in the last match of the season.

Apart form the goal that is. Let the cross go straight over his head. Howard has great reflexes - but his positioning still needs to be worked on.

IMO he was pathetic. 4 or 5 times he lost the ball and just walked away whilst RVN was working his socks off. Forlan simply does not have the United never-say-die spirit. Kleberson was awful again -i'm beginning to get a feeling we better forget about these south americans :nervous:

No big deal though. Better to have mishaps early on. We will be back

Howard was the only guy who had a good game today and he was not at fault for the goal, if u watched it properly u will see that he was impeded from punching the ball, but the ref didn't see that cos there were too many people in the box. What happened to Solksear today??, we seriously didn't create anything much in the game at all.

I missed the first couple of minutes so didn't see the starting line up . It was a good 20 minutes or so into the game before I realised Kleberson was playing . Ruud battled away up front but was getting no supply at all . If it wasn't for Tim Howard it could have been 3-0 Southampton

Enjoyed the game today in the main, hate losing but hey, shit happens.

Fair play to Soton, they worked their socks off and deserved the win.

Our midfield looked were flat footed today. I hope thats just a consequence of the new boys getting to grips with the Prem etc. It takes even the best players time.

Soton defend very well so maybe we should give them more credit for nullifying our efforts.

History shows that we dont do flying starts, so this result is more in keeping with previous successes

After watching this frustrating game i really wasnt overly concerned about it.

Ok, we lost a game but it wont be the last game we lose and with so many new faces it will take a bit before we really start to get into our stride.

One thing fergie is overlooking a bit though is that we have a first class midfielder in Fortune, who would have certainly done a better job than Kleberson did today...

In the first half there was a period were we were knocking it around and keeping possession really well - although it was only a brief moment in the game i thought that this was a good sign.

The only real negative that i got fromt the game was the way Gary Neville played - his crossing is truely sad, and he still pumps to many long balls up to no-one in particular which Rudd is left to chase down. We need to get the ball to ruuds feet, having him waste his energy on lost causes is not productive imo. I would like to see someone else in the right back spot, a quick and skillfull defender that can put in a half decent cross and make decent overlapping runs - someone in a similiar mould to Paul Parker/Dennis Irwin.

Anyway, Southhampton have been our bogey team for some time - anyone remember the famous day when United changed strip at half time! that game was just as frustrating as this and typical of the way things seem to go down there...

No worries! WE WILL BE BACK!

Ole was out injured apparently so our injury list is expanding as usual for the first half of the season. To say Southampton deserved all the points is a bit harsh. They played as well as we allowed them and Howard was unfortunate for the goal given his previous saves. The corner was good but the ball hit Beattie as opposed to Beattie heading the ball. He threw himself in and got the benefit. Southampton worked hard but we should have played a lot better while they couldn't. The fact is that Southampton couldn't stop us if we turned it on. We just didn't turn it on as this team is not yet completely moulded in Fergie's way and injuries have added to it. I doubt all the new boys would have played at the same time if we were all fit. We've seen all this before in previous seasons so few worries at the moment.

I watched the game live from the confort of my couch and needless to say United played like they were watching the game with me. I agree that Beatties goal should not have stood as howard was fouled by Olermond SP? but its no less then they deserved. We only played with urgency twice in the game. First when Ronaldo came on and after they scored. Keano played well but Kleberson and Forlan both had a bad game. Djemba2 also gave the ball away and lets not forget Gary Neville putting a ball behind the touchline when he had space to get it out for a throw. Eventually this lead to the corner which sealed the 3 points for the saints. now its been how long since we scored?? Im not going to say we miss Becks or Veron but our depth in midfield is a concern. Early days though and if we had to lose I dont mind losing to the Saints

What do you expect? I've been telling you Mancs for ages that Forlan is crap.....nice to see the penny is finally dropping

Speaking of Ole, Livvie might be pleasantly surprised to know that United lose more times with him absent than Keane altho' nearly everyone thinks United looks lost without Keano!
:)

Is that a fact? I did have the idea that we seemed to win/draw more games when Ole played, but hadn't attempted to prove or disprove it.

I'm a tad worried about you kk. ;)

:boring:

Forlan was no worse than the rest IMO. He deserved to start based on his performance in the Wolves game.

He's done more than he was ever given credit for, and he will continue to do so this season.

Going thru todays papers its incredible to see how lot of them, like some people on here are blaming howard for the southampton goal, One Journalist even went as far as saying he had a Taibi-esq performance which is incredible considering the great saves he made in the match, and afterall cudicini made a much worse error in the chelsea match and was not slated as much. Couldn't people SEE that he was impeded by 2 players and if we were to slag anyone off it has to be phil neville and keano who was supposed to be marking beattie

RONALDO RONALDO..didnt see anything from him..If you want him to play good. You gotta put him on the rigth place..Now you know why Quaresma is from far a better player..(Because he plays good every game)..

Err, of course I'm not comparing apple for apple in this case as Keano has played for United since '93 as opposed to Ole who signed in '96.

So, I'm talking abourt recent seasons, whereby Ole has appeared more regularly to make an impact. Plus, of course I've to discount many matches for example whereby Ole had only played a minute or 2 with United already down ( eg against Liverpool 2 seasons ago ), or whereby he's led a team of reserves against European opposition ( eg Deportivo )

Remember 2 seasons ago when Ole partnered Ruud upfront?

We went through the exercise that time & found that Ole was involved in 3 United EPL defeats as opposed to Keano's 6 - the previous season, Ole was involved in one EPL defeat as opposed to keano's 2.

FYI, of the 408 games Keano has played so far for United, we have lost 61 times ( 252 wins, 95 draws).

For Ole, it's 60 defeats in 316 games ( 192 wins, 64 draws ). :)

Ronaldo got very little touches on the ball but every time he did he did well.
Where you even watching the match?
