Southampton vs. Manchester United

I'm fecked if I can remember this game

http://www.worldfootball.net/spielbericht/fa-cup-2008-2009-3-runde-southampton-fc-manchester-united/

We played a pretty good team considering it was Southampton and only the 3rd round of the FA Cup. Berbatov, Welbeck [Rooney], Nani, Giggs [Possebon], Carrick [Gibson], Anderson, Evans, Vidic, O'Shea, Neville, Van Der Sar. Matt Paterson had a red in the 37th minute for Southampton which must have made it a fairly comfortable match.

Welbeck '20, Nani '48 [pen], Gibson '81.

Considering the break after this game SAF might really play anyone, it's going to be very hard to guess the team. He might very well rotate half the team, as Southampton should be one of the easier games this season, though it is an away game.

Evans should start, but I can also see Scholes, Welbeck, Chicharito, Nani and/or Buettner starting. Or we could keep the same team with Evans for Carrick, which would be just fine with me.

Any away game isn't easy.
Season before last, we won, what, 6 away games in 19?

Also, I think Rio's the more likely to start from what I've read; Evan's stalled in his recovery :(. RvP'll surely start, he's had but 1 game and scored! We need him match fit considering Rooney's injured and may miss 2 PL games, plus a CL qualifier! Kagawa's been good and no sense to rest him after 2 games..?

It's fine if we go 2-0 or 3-0 up to put on Hernandez or whatever, but we can't afford to drop too many points so early, with Chelsea already 6 pts ahead of us, and our May run in being desperately difficult!

Evans stalled in his recovery? Was there some new news? He was on the bench yesterday

I'm missing this one - gutted.
It'll have to be a MOTD job this weekend.

De Gea

Rafael Evans(?) Vidic Evra

Carrick Scholes

Valencia Kagawa Welbeck

RVP

I think Scholes will start considering he gets a weeks rest next week anyway. Giggs might get on as a sub again too. I want to see Cleverley play, but I reckon Carrick is likely to get the nod over him in an away game with Scholes as the partner if Evans is fit enough to start (or Rio as some have said).

this is the game where we will open up...

0 - 4

RVP x 2
vida
nani

We should rip them a new arsehole, they've looked prett poor do far but you never know this may turn into a cup final for them :nervous:

I would be scratching Vida off that goals scorers list aswel, for someone who is so good in the air hes had a bad return over the last coupe of seasons. He was lethal at one point. Then again our corners have been shite for a long time and with the audition of RVP that may help improve our conversion rate from them.

Mike dean appointed the ref for this one

:nervous:

the team picks itself.

actually no, SAF picks it and hopefully he gets it right.

With a few exceptions

Nani vs. Young
Scholes & Anderson vs. Cleverley
Evans vs. Carrick at CB
Welbeck vs. somebody

Jacob, is Evans vs Carrick at CB even a competition?

Evans wins that all day, every day, hands down, while he's asleep.

Carrick instead of Evans even if Evans is fit? Jacob your crackers mate. :wenger:

We need Carrick back in midfield ASAP.

I didn't mean like that, it was more of a point to adress the uncertainty over whether Evans would be fit enough to displace Carrick at CB. One of few concerns in the "XI that picks itself" I replied to. Bottom line, the eleven is not nailed down.

A "half fit" Evans is still better than Carrick at the back. It's two things when he's in central defense, we miss his presence in midfield and he's chaotic at the back

Oh for feck's sake - I somehow thought he'd retired

De Gea to get steamrollered repeatedly without Dean giving it a second look.

retired? your 'avin a laugh!

And Cleverley is likely to get at least one game, probably two for England, so you don't have to worry about him playing.

We might see Scholes and Anderson if Carrick is needed again as a center back. That combination seems to make some people might cringe but I'm interested to see them play together again, Anderson has shown in the past he can do the defensive work required to play with Scholes in a midfield 2.

Of course these really should be secondary considerations, I think last season was a good reminder that you can lose any game and you'd better play your best team as often as possible.

I would be all over this shit, providing they are all fit I couldn't imagine us fielding a stronger side.

This would be great, Rio for Evans if fit. not feeling too confident about this one.

Hopefully Hernandez gets some game time.

Nah I feel we should stick with our best 11 for a bit. Hernandez can feature in the Cup games or later on when players get tired.
Plus RvP's still not 100 per cent so he needs games.

I meant more as a sub.
