Southampton vs. Manchester United

Carrick's been fecking awful. He's playing at half the pace of everyone else on the pitch.

Another one who hasn't gotten himself in shape for the start of the season.

Seems to be the chief zombie passing instigator/offender too.

So how's the whole "drop Scholes to stop zombie passing" plan working out for you?

We've been very mediocre. Southampton passing the ball around much better than us. Need to step it up if we're to get something out of this. Credit to Soton too though. very well organized.

Southampton are being allowed to pass wherever because of our passive defending whereas we have every pass challenged because of their pressing. Until we start pressing expect more of the same.

Every fecking commercial break they(SS) show the city's 3-2 goal.. seriously I can't take it if it continues the entire season.

Nani <-> Welbeck and give Giggs a role as well later in the game.

He was all over his shoulders, that's a foul.

Not in my book.If that's a foul you may as well as stop aerial as soon as a player comes into contact with another.
There was always gonna be contact, Rafael was late to react and when he did Lambert was already preparing his header

Just when it's Vidic. Honestly the goal was much more of a foul than that Vidic incident.

Couldn't agree more. I guess it didn't help that he climbed on Rafael. The ref just assumed he out jumped him. Should have been a foul from behind.

It's as if people in here are incapable of understanding the fact that our players our playing against a team camped in their own half.

You can't play fast free flowing football when there's that little space.

Carrick has zero movement and likes to take 2 touches before passing. Cleverley is gone for the return before Carrick has even decided what to do. Cleverley and Carrick doesn't work. Scholes will stand next to Michael and take the ball from him and spray passes, that bails Carrick out a lot. Cleverley looks for the give and go constantly and that just ain't Carrick.
Fair comment. I had hoped Cleverley would have dropped back so as we didn't lose much possession considering he is playing in a deep role. But yeah, Carrick's been given much less space and comfort with the ball and he is had a bad time so far.

Yes, maybe Clev off Scholesy on, or Carrick off for Scholesy will help.

Sigh.. and still we'll never buy a central mid. I know people will argue Kagawa is one, but come on, we all know we're crying out loud for someone like Yaya Toure. Heck, someone who's half as good will do.

People's attitudes towards players on here are very interesting.

It isn't a foul 9 times out of 10, but considering the ref has given every similar situation outside the area as a foul on the player not jumping it's pretty awful officiating to not give that one.

It's on Absolute Radio every day as well. Aguererrroooooo!!! A little bit of me dies every time I hear it.

Agree with the later. Possibly like to see Hernandez get some game time as well.

Well yeah you can, when you are Real or Barca, or even City.
We are not though.

Really? I guess we should shut the forum off when the final whistle goes then? No point discussed things after they've happened.

Is the forum only for discussing fouls that weren't given now? I'm just saying that things like that happen all the time, but people moan about them for hours after a game when it doesn't really matter.

Sick and tired of Welbeck being forced into a wide left position. Never been effective there and clearly plays so much better in a strike partnership through the middle.

wasnt that incident after the goal?

I'm expecting a much improved United second half, courtesy of Sir Alex.

Come on United!!!

Maybe they should screen it in our dressing room. We seriously seem to lack the drive and desire to go there and grab it.

I'm still not sure about Welbeck. His technical ability is really questionable.

I think it's more inconsistent than questionable. There are times when he shows that he's clearly got ability, while there are times when he'll look woeful. I think that will improve with experience though.

We just don't have the ability to control a game at the moment.

Such a dissapointing half of football from us.

They really were not camped in their own half. They came forward in numbers plenty of times but our ball winning today has been non existent so we've had no chance to break away.

You're making no sense. Is there a list of acceptable topics of discussion I've missed?

I made a post about it during HT, hardly moaning for hours after a game is it?

Positives for first half:
valencia looked good down the wing.
RvP is continuing to make runs.
Kagawa has done well considering how quickly he is closed down.

So much quality among the team yet so erratic. This team should have done much more in the first half, let's hope we can start playing football.

Think we discussed this the other week. Seeing what i am seeing defensively yet? :p

You have to earn the right to play football away from home. Kagawa and TC are too poor defensively. They are getting knocked off the ball, and not being able to keep it means we are becoming open at the back.

Southampton are faring better because they are attacking and defending as a team and to a plan. We don't seem to have any noticeable plan for either attacking or defending. It looks like we are making it up as we go along, no wonder we look so uncertain.

We can improve by doing the basics and then letting our quality take over. If we are hoping Saints will just allow us some room so we can play pretty football, we are in for a long afternoon.

Passing from the back continues to be bad
