Southend v Manchester United - Tuesday, 07 November 2006

I predict a 3-0 win with smith getting a couple along with one from fletcher.
A start like the one against bolton and pompey will really kill the tie early on.

I just beg that Fletcher doesn't play. Really. I effing hate the daft Scottish twit! Even if we lose, as long as we don't play Fletcher, I'll be reasonably happy. ;)

Okay, who's 'we', Scouser?

P.S., Havn't you heard, Fletcher's the new big thing...

The new big thing? Don't make me laugh... it's about time everybody realised Darren Fletcher will NEVER make it as a Man Utd player. Not EVER. The people who praise him are idiots.

he's made over 100 appearences....with fergie likely to stay on I doubt he's going anywhere. Fletcher is better in the centre except for the liverpool performance. He's improving slowly, he could have had 2/3 goals this season so maybe as he get's more confidence he'll carry that forward and score more goals

And 97 of them have been complete rot. He's useless. He runs around like a headless chicken trying to win the ball, when finally does get it, he then proceeds to give it away again! Now, what the hell is the point in that?

Get rid as fast as possible would be my route. SAF won't though for some reason.

Official Line-Up:

442:
Kuszczak,
O'Shea, Brown, Silvestre, Heinze,
Ronaldo, Fletcher, D.Jones, Richardson,
Smith, Rooney.

Subs: Heaton, Evra, K.Lee, Shawcross, Rose.

Flippin heck 9-0: Rooney, (28) (64)(72), Smith, (12), R0naldo, (26) (41), Richardson (84),Jones(8), Silvestre (90) I9f thats come true you all owe me money

0-3 - I don't expect a major win

Don't care who scores.
I hope Smith shows more commitment than against Crewe - his attitude pissed me off.
Jones also has something to prove, and hopefully he'll make a good performance.

feck - thats a nice team. Actually would prefer if Roon and Ron were rested tbh. Will be good to see Fletch get a game in his real position for a change as well.

Am I the only one who thinks Shawcross is probably better than Alienhead as well?

It is a strong back 4 with aerial ability (either height wise or attacks the aerial ball well) in there to deal with the expected aerial threats and set pieces.

Plenty of pace on our wings in Ronaldo & Richardson. Fletch & Jones are more of the passing and posession players. Looks balanced but Southend may try to try to get in the face of our midfielders and play the physical game in there.

In attack, Smith should be playing the target man tonight. Rooney, as usual, should have a free role. We can either rely on Smith to bring the others into play with his hold-up play. Or break quickly with the 3Rs and Smith staying high up and joining up in the final third trying to get on the end of things or pounce on the rebounds and loose balls.

Well I've got a really heavy cold and feel like shite so this better be entertaining.

I'm thinking extra time, again. We seem capable of not being arsed in a games like this.

Close one, could go either way, hopefully ours.
Don't mind seeing us scoring for fun but I kind of doubt it.

Sky Sports have the Chav idiot from Soccer AM presenting again :(

Don't think we can expect much from Smith even at this stage - he's just feeling his way through and trying to rediscover his CF instincts again. It isn't just his injury but also the fact that he's not played as a CF since May 05.

Seems to me (from his Crewe and reserves outings), that he his trying to "think" his way back into the game - work out his position, work out his runs, etc, without trying to get injured by jumping into his famed tackles, tenacious play, etc..

I fear his leg break may have finished Smith. Some players just can't deal with something like that on a mental level.

Surely Smith is not one of them! And tell me a player who was never able to play football atthe highest level after he broke his leg?

Nah mate, just a realist.

I hope not but he has yet to show any signs he isn't. Look how long Ole was out for but I never doubted he would be back. Smith looks like a different player to me.

As for players not playing again, thats not the point. Its playing to the same standard they did. In all honesty it was Smudgers bite that seperated him from the rest, he is not a natural goalscorer. If thats gone I don't see what he has left? I hope and pray I am wrong.
