Spurs report Manchester United and Liverpool...

United reported Real to FIFA and look what old Blatter said about it (Ronny the slave).
I think United have the right to comment anyway as they made a formal bid for Berbatov, something Real still is yet to do.

Idioteque14: (newbie)

I see GlastonSpur keeps evading the issue of Levy having brought Juande Ramos to Spurs... I wonder why?

Keep pointing that out to him! I wonder what excuse he'll have for that! Calling us hypocrits

You cnuts arn't seeing the bigger picture.

Fergie's been in this game for over 20 years. Do you really think he'd make comments "off the record" like that, and then be even the slightest bit surprised when they fabricate themselves onto the back page of the Sun the very next day?

He knew exactly what he was doing, and that's to put pressure on Spurs to force the transfer through.

Pretty much exactly what Real have been trying to do, only without the bizarre, smothering desperation effect.

Yeah, it's hypocritical. Like he even gives a feck, and like Levi whining about it isn't equally hypocritical in itself.

Football's a multi-million pound business. You don't get anywhere by being the straight up nice guy.

He'd be better of trying to claim that his comments were misreported by the MUFC officially-endorsed Norwegian fanzine, since this is where the Sun obtained these quotes.

It will be be an interesting spectacle: MUFC in a lawsuit against one of it's official fanzines.

But these Fergie quotes are a sideshow in any case. The real substance is the allegation of tapping up, which has nothing to do with Fergie's quotes..

The whisper is that Levy has substantial, documented evidence - written, taped and filmed - and is going to nail both clubs (Liverpool and Man. United) to the wall over this.

I say again, those who think Levy's allegation is focused on - or depends on - such a flimsy basis as Fergie's quotes as relayed in The Sun from Norway, are living in a fantasy world. Levy does not make such statements without being totally sure of what he's doing and he will have taken top class legal advice before proceeding.

 You maniacly deluded gimp

Fergie's a genius. But I think it's pretty far-fetched(i.e. as deluded as our local Spurs fan) to think he got these norwegians to briefly display these quotes on a website in the certainty that the The Sun would pick them via a site like RedCafe, and the The Sun would just print the quotes without attributing the dodgy source.

Fergie was being clever when he said he had bidded for a player but kept it un-named. Of course we all knew it was Berbatov really.

Some fan site decided to claim it was Berbatov like the Caf did with Kaka. Custis gets his hands on it and when Levy, the bright and capable man, picked up his personal copy of The Sun he had a little rant.

Why would The Sun need to find them via Redcafe?

He's not an idiot. He wouldn't leak comments like that to anyone by accident.

I can't believe how naive people are being

...to the Premier League for tapping up Berbatov and Keane.

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_3835579,00.html

Liverpool and Manchester United have been reported to the Premier League by Tottenham Hotspur following their respective interest in Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov.

Spurs are unhappy with the conduct of their top-flight rivals following speculation linking Keane with a move to Anfield, and Berbatov with a switch to Old Trafford.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez has expressed his interest in Keane, while United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has spoken of his optimism of concluding a deal for Berbatov.

However, Spurs have criticised the two clubs, with chairman Daniel Levy feeling they have to take the matter up with the Premier League.

Sheer arrogance
"Today's public comments by Manchester United's manager, announcing that he has made an offer for Dimitar and is confident that the deal will go through with time working in their favour, is a blatant example of sheer arrogance and interference with one of our players," said Levy in a statement on the club's official website.

"It is also probably one of the worst offences by any manager in the Premier League to date and is unbelievably hypocritical given his recent comments in respect of Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid.

"This comes after a series of events, dating back to last summer, which have shown Manchester United to be in breach of Premier League (PL) rules. As a result, we have today made an official complaint to the PL about the conduct of Manchester United.

"Benitez made similar comments in respect of Robbie recently and we made an official complaint to the PL about the conduct of Liverpool earlier this week.

"The behaviour of both clubs has been disgraceful. We told both clubs very early on that we had no interest in selling Robbie or Dimitar, respectively, and that they should refrain from pursuing the player. Both clubs arrogantly chose to ignore this request and we now have evidence that both clubs have systematically been working to prise the players away from us, outside of PL rules of conduct.

Negative influence
"Our subsequent position has been severely compromised by both clubs making their intentions widely known and indeed making contact with the players and their agents, without the club's permission.

"I have absolutely no wish to sell either player and to date we have not accepted any offer for either. However, when a player's head is turned and their commitment is absent, particularly when they occupy key positions such as that of striker, they become a negative influence in a team dressing room in which they were once a positive addition and influence.

"This is the situation we now have on our hands, with both Dimitar and Robbie having made it clear that they wish to leave for Manchester Utd and Liverpool respectively.

"Irrespective of the outcome and futures of Robbie and Dimitar, we are continuing to seek to bring in quality, talented players for the future, who want to play in a Spurs shirt."

Do you really think Custis happened to be reading United.no for the brief period those quotes were posted?

He obviously saw a translation posted on one of the english language United forums, most likely this one.

The only other option is that one of these norwegians took it upon themselves to ring up Custis and tell him what Fergie had told them in private/

Ferguson is not stupid, the man hardly talks to the press so why would he give something like that away, look at the BBC.

If GlastonSpur is anything to go by it looks like Levy has been smart and achieved what he partly set out to do with the comments about the players availability mixed in with the Fergie accusations.

There is no way back now, we had to sell two of our best players who are under contract just like Carrick! Im sure Berbatov and especially Keane would put in effort if they were forced to stay. That would be a real statement of intent by Levy, not this crap.

There's secret whispered evidence, so we're totally screwed. This is in no way Levy covering his back with the fans while he rolls over and sells two of his best players so that his dividends are nice and safe.

The whisper is that Levy has substantial, documented evidence - written, taped and filmed - and is going to nail both clubs (Liverpool and Man. United) to the wall over this.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Lets me guess, your ITK's told you this?

I wonder what the substantial, documented, written evidence could be?

Transfers used to be class, remember when we gave a million quid to Leeds for Cantona? That's a fecking transfer.

Ferguson 'embarrassed' for Spurs
Dimitar Berbatov
Ferguson has been linked with Berbatov for some time

Sir Alex Ferguson says Tottenham face "embarrassment" for complaining to the Premier League over Manchester United being linked to Dimitar Berbatov.

A national newspaper quoted the United manager as saying he expected to sign Bulgaria striker Berbatov, 27.

But Ferguson denied the reports, saying: "I don't know where they got those quotes from, it wasn't from me.

"It's going to be very embarrassing for Spurs because the complaint appears to be on the basis of a story in a paper."

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy accused United of being hypocritical, given that the European Champions reported Real Madrid to governing body Fifa because they believed the Spanish champions were publicly courting Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo.

Berbatov can achieve things other players don't even think about

Insane
And the chairman said both United and Liverpool, who reportedly want to sign Spurs captain Robbie Keane, had behaved disrespectfully.

Levy said on Friday: "The public comments by Manchester United's manager, announcing that he has made an offer for Dimitar and is confident that the deal will go through with time working in their favour, is a blatant example of sheer arrogance and interference with one of our players."

Speaking after United's 1-1 draw against Kaizer Chiefs in a Cape Town friendly, Ferguson added: "It's embarrassing for them but you know what Daniel Levy is like. He's different.

"It's something to ask chief executive David Gill about because I haven't really spoken to him about it because I've been preparing for the match."

Glaston,

You are a funny little man.

Keep up the hilarious work,

As far as I'm aware their are two sets of quotes coming from the interview with the noggies, one in which he doesn't name Berbatov and that is what the BBC were running with, the other which the sun printed with Berbatov named, I don't know what was published on the noggie website

Its at the end the other Berbatov thread now.

Daniel Levy learns lessons of Premier League food chain after Alex Ferguson comments.

Framed by the vast bulk of Table Mountain, Newlands, where Manchester United opened their tour of South Africa, is perhaps the most spectacularly beautiful of all sports grounds. But the champions of Europe and England found themselves hemmed in by something altogether more forbidding.

Tapping-up - the practice of asking a player if he fancies a move to a club before officially approaching his employers - is as rife in football as it is in life. Tottenham, Manchester United and Real Madrid have all been guilty of it in the past. It happens in the Ryman League.

And yet few attempts to sign a player can have sparked the response that Sir Alex Ferguson's pursuit of Dimitar Berbatov brought from Daniel Levy. In the words of the Tottenham chairman, Ferguson's comments, announcing he had made an offer for the Bulgarian, were "a blatant example of sheer arrogance and interference with one of our players". He said: ''It is also unbelievably hypocritical given his recent comments in respect of Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid.""

Levy is learning two lessons about football. One, there is a food chain and White Hart Lane lies somewhere in the middle. Just as Tottenham preyed on Crystal Palace to prise away the England Under-17 captain, John Bostock, and just as Madrid continue to lay bait for Ronaldo, so Manchester United hunt Berbatov.

The other lesson Levy might like to learn is that quotes attributed to managers, even with Ferguson's global fame, are to be treated with caution. What infuriated Levy was the Manchester United manager's comment, reported in one tabloid as he departed for Cape Town, that "we have made Tottenham an offer on Berbatov and we have good expectations this deal will go through".

Ferguson did indeed confirm Manchester United had made a bid for one player and it is a fair guess that he was referring to Berbatov but at no time in his five-minute conversation at Manchester Airport did he mention the striker or Spurs by name.

And, in any case, Tottenham had been preparing their supporters for the deal. Their manager Carlos Ramos' comments that they would not let their principal forward go cheaply was a way of acknowledging the inevitability of Berbatov's going while promising they would screw Manchester United for every last penny. They have let it be known that a fee of £28 million would secure his services - good money for a man with perhaps no more than three more seasons at the top.

Fergie goes to war over Berbatov allegations

However, Ferguson, speaking in Cape Town after United drew 1-1 with Kaizer Chiefs in the first game of their South African tour, hit back in the strongest terms. “It is going to be very embarrassing for Tottenham because they have based their complaint on a story in The Sun. I don’t know where they got these quotes from, but it certainly wasn’t me,” Ferguson said.

“I haven’t seen [Levy’s statement] yet. I have just been given the gist of it by our press officer. But I’m sure our legal people will be looking at it.”

Unless it can be proved that Ferguson made the comments in dispute, Levy could find himself defending a defamation case. However, last night Tottenham said that they stood firmly by the statement.

In all likelihood, the row has strengthened United’s chances of signing Berbatov, who joined Spurs in May 2006 for £10.9m. Levy was determined to play hardball over the 27-year-old Bulgarian striker, for whom he is thought to be seeking £30m, but he may have to be more accommodating should he find himself trying to persuade Ferguson not to sue.

Barcelona are also interested in Berbatov and are reported to be ready to offer Tottenham £24m for his services.

 Liverpool are in trouble. We have got our excuse to get out of this mess.

Nah, no way one club gets punished and the other gets off. Imagine the death threats to the PL guys if Liverpool got fined and United didn't.

Both clubs are going to be cleared unless Levy has some proper evidence of tapping up.

Yes. His video clips and documentation. Of course both clubs have conducted meetings in the local pub leaving a file behind.

It would be great if Levy came out and said I have an ITK as his evidence.

I can't believe he's just believed The Sun and attacked Sir Alex Ferguson like that. Its great.

That bit is slightly odd. Even if Ferguson sues him it will do very little harm to him. It's not like Levy is likely to be imprisoned for being a bit of a spastic. It would be The Sun to get the largest punishment in the end probably.

Glaston acting weirdly too. ITK.

Yes, I've criticised Fergie for his reported comments - the words stupid, arrogant and hypocritical spring to mind - and so have several MUFC fans.

So, just to summarize, you don't believe Levy is stupid enough to make such allegations without evidence, but you believe one of the most successful, longest serving coaches in Premiership history would be stupid enough to make blatantly rule violating comments?

You're a complete and total moron.

And you're being played like a twelve year old by Levy.

Spurs fan are now saying that Fergie made these comments at a fan meeting and Levy and The Sun have secret video footage of this meeting.

Jesus, if that turns out to be Levys definition of "public comments" then good luck in court... :wenger:

They probably would hold a minute's silence and all...

And another thing - If Levy has written, taped and filmed evidence of United tapping up Berbatov, can't someone sue him for stalking or something like that? Just because you have a contract with him it doesn't mean that you can video film him to see who he meets, does it?

The funniest thing would be if we sued him for Berbatov after these allegations

Can't wait to see the written, taped and filmed evidence.

Because of the defamation the pl should make spurs give us berbatov for free, and liverpool should be docked 10 points.

In a couple of hours we should find out the response of The Sun to this whole thing.

You assume they will admit where they got the quotes from. Who knows, they may have the alleged secret recordings of SAF saying these words in priavte.

It won't be "public comments" if so, but it'll sound better than just admiting they made up the quotes. And you can bet that Levy will say "Aha, you did say those words!!!"
