Keane: I Have No United Regrets
Roy Keane says he has no regrets from his time as a player at Manchester United - and that includes how he left the club. The Irishman also paid tribute to former team-mate Ryan Giggs
Ahead of the Boxing Day meeting against his former club, Sunderland boss Roy Keane has insisted he wouldn't have done anything in his Manchester United playing career differently. And that, says the Irishman, includes the controversy that saw him exit Old Trafford.
Keane, who skippered United for many years, left the club in November 2005 by 'mutual consent' after angering Sir Alex Ferguson with comments about his team-mates in an MUTV interview.
However, Keane insists that his 12-and-a-half-year stay at Old Trafford is remembered fondly. "I had a brilliant time there. It was everything I thought it would be - fantastic, brilliant. I loved every minute of it," said the Sunderland boss.
"I don't have regrets about how it ended, other people might. All good things come to an end.''
Giggs The Shining Example
Keane is known for his forthright views on the attitudes of many players in the modern game, and the Irishman says the one man who epitomises above all others how it should be done is United veteran Ryan Giggs.
"Giggsy is a top man, a great player and a great example to everybody," said Keane. "Over 16-18 seasons, he's a great example to every player out there. He's not picked up many injuries, looks after himself, and is a decent lad.''
