Sunderland vs Manchester United

I read that Rooney might have injuried on Tuesday, probably his ribs.

We are fecked if it's true.

---------------VDS---------
Neville---Rio(if unfit, O'Shea)--Vidic---Evra--
---------Fletcher---Carrick--------
----------Scholes/Giggs-----
Park-------Tevez-------Nani--

I'd say rest ronnie.

rooney???

VDS
Neville
O'Solid
Vidic
Evra
Fletcher
Anderson
Giggs
Ronaldo
Tevez
Rooney

Not sure on the formation, but that 11 players is what i wanna see. Unless Rio is fit of course in which case have him go in at CB ahead of Sheasy and that's on the presumption Anderson is fit and ready. If not then Carrick i guess but i think he could do with a little rest. He'll be crucial in Porto.

wish we were playing same time or earlier than liverpool to really heap the pressure on after last night

Foster
Neville O'Shea Vidic Evra
Park Scholes Carrick Nani
Rooney Tevez

I think, but if Rio's fit I'd like to rest Evra.

I'm seriously shit scared about this game

Team should be...

GK: VDS

RB: Neville
CB: Ferdinand
CB: Vidic
LB: Evra

RM: Ronaldo
CM: Carrick
CM: Giggs
LM: Park

CF: Tevez
CF: Rooney

Subs: Foster, O'Shea, Fletcher, Scholes, Nani, Macheda, Welbeck

feck knows what the score will be I just hope we win :nervous:

Nope - he's available, but there's talk that he may have cracked a rib against Porto. Really need him, he's the heartbeat !
there's no way its a cracked rib - of it was he'd be out for a month - with that injury you can't run - probably just bruised

This is a bit scary. I just checked when the next United match was, and confirmed what I thought, ie. that it's away at Sunderland on Saturday April the 11th. Then I turn back to my FM2009 game, and look up the next fixture for my Reading team. It's away to Sunderland. On Saturday. April 11th. 2015.

If I lose I might not dare watch the game.

I jest, of course, I'd watch it even if a space-fairy from the future appeared to me and told me we'd lose 10-0.

On topic, does anyone else think it's time for Nani to be given another chance? I'd like to see him against Sunderland. Maybe not from start, but it could be a good fixture for him to regain some confidence.

Heading to the match so I can't wait. I really do think this is the game to get us back on form

--------Vds------------
Neville-Rio-Vidic--Evra
---Carrick--Fletcher---
Nani---Tevez-----Giggs
-------Rooney---------

Nani needs another game and Ronaldo needs a rest. Rooney and Tevez playing together again can only be good for us as we seen for Tevez's goal on Tuesday.
Carrick and Fletcher to control the game from midfield with Giggs picking up and threading passes through for Roooney.

He was abysmal against Villa so my head says go with Park but then you always get the feeling Nani is capable of a goal.

I really don't know what to make of him to be honest.

First game back in a long while, he needs more than one before you can judge him

Sbragia sets out attacking policy
Ricky Sbragia says Sunderland will go for it against Manchester United tomorrow, despite the Premier League leaders and reigning European champions' awesome attacking strength

Rio Ferdinand is back in training, but Sir Alex Ferguson is already planning for the England international to miss United's visit to Sunderland.

The influential centre-back has missed the Reds' last two games, but he is more likely to return in next Wednesday's clash with Porto than on Saturday.

With Jonny Evans also struggling with an ankle injury, Sir Alex told his pre-match press conference that John O'Shea could partner Nemanja Vidic in the centre of defence against the Black Cats.

The potential for more defensive re-shuffles is tempered by the availability of Wayne Rooney for the trip to Wearside, with Sir Alex laughing off suggestions that he would miss the match with a rib injury.

There are also comebacks looming for Rafael and Wes Brown which, along with the impending returns of Ferdinand and Dimitar Berbatov, gives the Reds' squad a healthier appearance.

"Rio started running today," said Sir Alex. "Rafael started training on Tuesday - he will be available for next weekend, and Wes will start football training next week."

Rio is out, he hasnt travelled

Players that have travelled

Man Utd (from): Van der Sar, Foster, Kuszczak, O'Shea, Neville, Vidic, Evans, Evra, Eckersley, Ronaldo, Nani, Fletcher, Gibson, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, Park, Rooney, Tevez, Welbeck, Macheda.

First game back in a long while, he needs more than one before you can judge him

I'm judging him on the whole of the season. He's been absolutely shite apart from the odd game.

Got a feeling that this is going to be a tight one, would be nice to get an early goal and then go on and bang in a few, anymore news on rooney and if his ribs are okay?

If there's no rooney or berbatov, wouldn't mind seeing macheda and tevez up front with a midfield of ronaldo, carrick, giggs and park

Interesting, Evans has travelled. Perhaps we'll see him play like he did against Chelsea (think it was Chelsea?) with an injection? Seems like the kind of guy to play through injuries if the team requires it.

This might be the first game I miss for three seasons. Anyways, here goes the weekly prediction:

Jacob's prediction

v Sunderland AFC
Barclays Premier League
Saturday, 11th April 2009, 15:00
Stadium of Light, Sunderland

How is it in the table?

Manchester United need t
.o win this one. One point with one game in hand is not a huge advantage and we must say that Liverpool does not seem as a team which want to give up. Two games before international break was not good, defeat against Liverpool and a week later at Craven Cottage made seven-points lead to just one. United's last game in the league against Aston Villa was also played poor by players, but they scored the winner, thanks to 17 year old Federico Macheda. Sunderland is only three points above relegation zone and their every next game will be like cup final. They can make it hard for Manchester United. Sunderland have not played many games recenlty, they played only three times last month and their last game was played on Saturday, while Manchester United yesterday evening was fighting for Champions League semi-final. Thee days to rest for United, whole week for Sunderland

Last five meetings:

● 06/12/2008 - United v Sunderland - 1:0 - Vidic
● 26/12/2007 - Sunderland v United - 0:4 - Saha 2, Ronaldo, Rooney
● 01/09/2007 - United v Sunderland - 1:0 - Saha
● 14/04/2006 - United v Sunderland - 0:0
● 15/10/2005 - Sunderland v United - 1:3 - Rooney, Rossi, van Nistelrooy

United team:

Goalkeeper

I think there's nothing to write. He is our best goalie this season, he is injury free and he had a break two weeks ago, when majority of the team played for their countries in World Cup Qualification. I know the most important part of the season has just started, but we cannot give him rest at the moment, when our defence is really injuried and we have only Vidic in the centre.

Defenders

We do not have too many to choose from. Da Silva twins are injuried, but we still cannot find any true informations about them. Fabio was sitting on the bench when United played Villa, but he was missed yesterday. Rafael is injuried for a long time and even physioroom.com does not write anything new about him. Jonny Evans was injuried yesterday and Ferguson said in post-match interview that he needs one week to be fully fit and ready to play. With Ferdinand injuried, too, we are only with Nemanja Vidic, but alongside him will probably play John O'Shea. It does not look too bad on a paper, but in last matches we could see that O'Shea and Neville partnership is not the best in the world, definitely. I care about Evra, because he plays all the time and it can cost us later in this season.

Midfielders

Cristiano Ronaldo must play, however I know he can be very tired. We need him, because he scores goals even if he does not play magnificent football. I would give him a rest in FA Cup semi-final, hopefully other wingers will find their form. On the other wing I would pick Nani. He is totally out of form, but we need Park in Porto. Moreover, Nani will not play good again, if he does not play, so Fergie, choose him at Stadium of Light. I think experienced players should play in the centre, not because I want Carrick & Fletcher on Wednesday, but they have not played too much recently. They had break when there were internationals. Scholes did not played against Aston Villa and was replaced yesterday by Tevez after about 70 minutes. Giggs played against Villa, but he came at the end of the match yesterday. I would pick experienced midfield.

Strikers

I know, I know. But you have to agree - Carlos Tevez was poor in last two games, so I would give him time to rest and have him fully fit and ready for fight in Portugal on Wednesday. Federico Macheda was wonderful against Aston Villa, I do not write it only because he scored the winner. He was very dangerous through 30 minutes. Give the lad a chance.

For me it should be:

GK - Edwin van der Sar

RB - Gary Neville ©
CB - John O'Shea
CB - Nemanja Vidic
LB - Patrice Evra

RM - Cristiano Ronaldo
CM - Paul Scholes
CM - Ryan Giggs
LM - Nani

ST - Wayne Rooney
ST - Federico Macheda

Bench: Ben Foster, Richard Eckersley, Ji-sung Park, Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick, Darron Gibson, Danny Welbeck.

Injuried: Rafael da Silva, Wes Brown, Rio Ferdinand, Jonny Evans, Fabio da Silva, Owen Hargreaves, Anderson, Dimitar Berbatov.

I wouldnt totally agree with the team selection but fair play to ya for putting the effort into that post mate

The team picks itself really, the only question is which 2 do you pick for centre midfield:

Scholes
Carrick
Fletcher
Giggs

Personally i'd go for Fletcher and Giggs.

---------------------Foster---------------------
Neville----------Vidic---------O'Shea--------Evra
Ronaldo-------Fletcher-------Giggs----------Nani
--------------Welbeck---------Tevez------------

Foster, Fergie has often said Van der Sar does not play 3 games in a week.

Defense picks itself, due to injuries etc. Unless say Fabio is available, I might say stick him in to give Evra a much needed rest.

Midfield, I wouldn't play Carrick looks tired and he hasn't been upto much recently. Nani, should start mainly as I think Park will play against Porto.

Up top I would rest Rooney on the bench and bring him in if needed.

I was about to go to mom's house tomorrow evening, but I managed to postpone it to Sunday morning.

Now I can peacefully watch the match.

Not sure how this one will pan out, the injuries and our form are going to be a major factor for the run in. With porto to bare in mind we need to play a team who can win, but also save a few of them for tuesday.

Im guessing Ferdinand and Berbatov will be back for porto. So it should be Rooney and Tevez up top. The back four picks itself unless evans is fit then he can come in centrally and o'shea takes nevilles place, and we need a midfield partnership with experience energy and strength.

---------------- Foster ----------------
--- Neville - O'shea - Vidic - Evra ---
-Ronaldo - Gibson - Fletcher - Giggs-
----------- Rooney - Tevez -----------

Id be tempted to put nani in there ahead of gibson and for giggs to play centrally, but i feel nani wouldn't give evra the defensive cover we need a such a crucial time in our season. Also Scholes was poor and doesnt seem up to it at the minute. Carrick also needs a rest for Porto.

In that case, I'd have:

-----------VDS-------------
Gaz----O'Shea--Vidic---Evra/Fabio
--------Fletcher--Carrick----
----------Scholes/Giggs------
Nani------Rooney-----Tevez

we saw against porto that scholes carrick fletcher is not a good combo.... and fabio hasnt travelled
