Sunderland vs. Manchester United

At least we don't have to see Park falling over at every opportunity. We need directness from Young and Valencia today to get a couple early goals, no pissing around from Nani, that's why he wasn't fielded

What is our best available team?

Well for one, playing an actual right back, and 2 aren't we supposed to be going for a more fast style of play, yet that sounds like bullshit when we have 2 38 year olds starting and Giggs has been shocking for months now.

Jones at right back. He's selecting him on purpose so we take our mind off of City before the games start. That has to be it.

Yes, the same Nani that won us this fixture in 2010.

Not a fan of the team but oh well. Valencia playing is good so we've got pressure in the wide areas.

So our best available team involves a different right back?

That's a radical shake-up.

OK, so what is the best team available then?

I'm really getting the impression that Fergie won't sort out the midfield as long as Giggs and Scholes are still playing. Fergie kept playing Keane when he could barely run in his last season until Keane finally forced Fergie to kick him out and Fergie were forced to go and sign Carrick. Giggs and Scholes are legends but they turn 38 and 39 in November they can't keep up long vs players in their physical peak anymore in a league like PL and playing them together despite their experience is a risk but Fergie seems sentimental when it comes to those two since he again and again turn to them in must win games. It's like Fergie is hoping they will become 25 again by playing them...

Another befuddled team selection.

Jones at R.Back
Giggs Scholes and carrick once again.
Another lacklustre performance.

Joey Barton: The fact they spent 28 trillion on that squad....

 you're talking about Nani, right?

Didn't catch many games this season, eh?

feck's sake. Matchday threads. So much drivel. I shouldn't do this to myself. As you were, gents.

Yes, because i am the only one who thinks Nani should be starting.

He's out of form but I don't think that's necessary.

Form? You call having an appalling season "form"? I call it "legs gone" and "time to play golf instead". He's ruining his legacy, love him to bits but it's agony watching him playoff United now.

Rafael at right back, and Nani instead of Giggs. I'm sure i must be crazy to think that though

Giggs this season has reminded me of Neville in his last one, the only difference is Giggs plays in a position were we don't get punished for every mistake he makes so makes it less noticeable.

He's tended to be very good in not playing them together, the last two times it's been due to injury in midfield, again we don't have a midfielder on the bench.

Giggs hasn't lost anything in the last year, imo. I tend to think of Scholes and Giggs as one midfielder that we rotate, makes their need to be used sparingly seem less troublesome.

you're alive, I must say Luminous, you've become rather anonymous.

Go on, respond by telling me you've never heard of me.

I think Giggs still has plenty to offer, there have been times where he's been our best player and even when he's not playing well, or might give away possession he's still a match winner because he's willing to try the difficult, or he'll make runs others won't.

But he's been off form recently and personally I don't see why he needed to start against City or why he needs to start today. As I said if we're looking to rely on clev then lets see what he can do in a tough game. Or if Nani is available, and playing better than Giggs has then why not play him. Sometimes I think we overplay the experience card, youth and the enthusiasm/energy they bring can offer a lot too. Still hopefully Giggs will put on a performance to remind people that he's still quality and puts in a performance like against Roma.

That's not what I've seen. People said the same thing about Scholes at the end of last season but I didn't see it then either, and I'm not surprised he's come back and played so well because I didn't ever think he lost it.

But I'm willing to admit I might not see it. I think Giggs's recent problems have been with his passing, not his running.

Nani was, by and large, crap this season whenever he played. But that doesn't seem to prevent Giggs being selected...

Half of our front six are direct pace merchants, the other half are pedestrian passers. Rooney is supposed to hold the whole thing together somehow.
