Sunderland vs. Manchester United

midweek internationals and Monday early kick off game against Chelsea make this one awkward.

---------------De Gea------------------

Jones--------Smalling----Rio------Buttner

Nani------Carrick------Anderson----Giggs

------------RVP------Welbeck------------

What odds that United field 10 completely different outfield players against Sunderland to those who start against Chelsea?

Big boost that Fletcher is out for them. If any truth to Sessegnon rumours...we really have no excuses.

Could see Ando/Giggs midfield (shudder).

Tbh im sure that Chavs will field fheir second choice XI for the league game as well. Both teams will play their best players on Monday.

You reckon? Against a plucky Southampton side who have recently beat City and Liverpool convincingly, when pressure is still on Chelsea to secure a CL spot? I'm not sure. I think that has to be (should be) priority for them.

Anyway I think we have more flexibility to rotate and rest players than they do. Not just because of the gap, without sounding over-confident I just think our squad is deep enough to rest quite a few players and still beat Sunderland.

I hope a good Southampton turn up and give them a hard game

They were superb against Us and City, awful for a month or so but they really took Liverpool apart last time

Even Rodgers didn't claim liverpool were outstanding in defeat

With a 15 point gap, Fergie can use whatever 11 he chooses and I will not say a word. Monday is the big one.

Chelsea have more concerns than us. They cannot afford to lose to Southampton.

I think Jones, Nani, Vidic, Rio, Anderson and Giggs will definitely start this one. We have a deeper squad than Chelsea and expect us to navigate this few days well enough. Cahill is injured I believe, and Terry will certainly struggle with 2 games in 3 days.

I'd like to see Anderson against Chelsea though. He has been outstanding in his last two starts at the Bridge, and we need him to shackle that prick Ramirez who always runs riot against us.

Rafa will 100% prioritise the FA Cup because it's about his legacy - he could give a f*ck about Chelsea next season.

I'm sure Fergie will do similarly, though I think players like Chicarito or Valencia who are so far away probably wouldn't be ready for Saturday morning anyway.

We have plenty of squad players that didn't play in the break, I'm sure they'll be in. Just fearing a Scholes/Giggs midfield duo!

I think De Gea, Rafael, Carrick, Rooney will start in both. Evra might because we have no other good option at left back. Rafael has not played for 3 weeks now and he will get through these two games without problem.

Would prefer a strong team, no need to make city dream again if we lose, going in to the derby as the next league match.

DDG
Rafael, Vidic, Evans, Evra(don't trust Buttner)
Young Carrick Anderson Giggs
Rooney RvP

@OptaJoe: 25 - If Man Utd win vs Sunderland they'll be the first team in English top-flight history to win 25 of their opening 30 games. Benchmark.

Wouldn't be bad for one of Fergie's worst teams eh?

I wont be hurt if we play a really "weakened" team and draw. I will be confused however if we play a top team and dont win.

Well considering Sunderland's recent injury blows, I'm confident we won't lose. Drawing those is a possibility. I can see them setting up for a 0-0.

Just showed these cnuts on SSN doing the poznan when City nicked the league last season. Lets batter the feckers.

We're pretty good at this football business, and Sunderland are abject. Even resting a few we ought to give them a shoeing.

25 in 30 will be a staggering return, and would put us on course to win roughly 31.3 games come the end of the season. Yeah, we really are a bit good.

This game can't come quick enough.

I need my United-fix.

I actually think Powell will be on the bench for this one.

Time to get that form back. Nice international break to shake the post-Madrid funk. All our strikers got their shooting boots on - apart from Welbeck, obviously, thanks to the fundamental laws of thermodynamics* - and we should be raring to go for the two trophies which we are still in the running for (and have a great chance of getting).

*1: Energy is not created or destroyed, but conserved.
2: All systems tend towards entropic disorder.
3: The entropy of a system approaches a constant value as the temperature of that system approaches zero.
4: Danny Welbeck's goal threat is inversely proportional to the value of his contribution to the match as a whole. He does not score goals with any other body part than his heel.
5: Gareth Barry's footballing style tends towards entropic disorder. Rapidly.

Sunderland produced the worst performance I've seen in Old Trafford this season. Having said this, we'll have one eye on the Chelsea game.

2-0 win, for me.

Fulham in the FA Cup take that accolade, closely followed by ours against Chelsea. Arsenal were also horrendous.

Sunderland didn't have a game plan at all, they pretty much hoofed it to nobody for ninety minutes.

If Sessegson is not playing, then I am confident Smalling and Evans can handle Wickham. I would rest Rio and Vidic for the Chelsea game.

Only 2 days left until the season starts again after the break. Hope for a strong team with the likes of Rooney, RvP and Carrick in the lineup.

Sunderland are so poor, that even the Midas man O Neill is struggling to do anything with them.
They seem to lash plenty of cash out and bring new players in quite often, so it's surprising noone can do anything there.

Could well be in threat of going down.

I'd love to stick it to Sunderland after last season, but given the timing - I'll settle for a scrappy 1-0
