Swansea City vs. Manchester United

I have a sneaky suspicion Moyes will play Rooney from the start...

but then common sense hits me.

Any truth to the rumours that Bony won't play?

Hernandez anyone? Would love to see him playing in this game. Likely he's not entirely match fit but probably a sub appearance wouldn't hurt him.

Nani wasn't in the Portugal squad against the Netherlands - was hoping he'd at least be on the bench for this game but, does not seem likely.

Good to see Moyes is continuing the Fergie tradition of starting the season with at least three key players injured. :(

Given our fixture list we probably should he winning this one.

Damn, was hoping he would make it. Looks like Nani, Carrick, Evans, and Young are all at least doubts. While Rooney, Valencia, Kagawa, and Hernandez are all other potential absentees for various reasons. No Rafael either, obviously. Worst case scenario travelling squad is something like:

de Gea, Lindegaard, Amos; Ferdinand, Vidic, Smalling, Jones, Fabio, Evra, Buttner; Cleverley, Anderson, Giggs, Januzaj, Lingard, Powell; van Persie, Welbeck, Henriquez

Although, I'm sure at least two or three of the eight or so possible doubts will make the bench / start.

I think we need to win this one quite badly.. Due to the varying levels of fitness in our players, the Rooney saga, no new signings, and unfortunate injuries, coupled with the tough fixtures, I'd be very content with eight or nine points from five games - hoping for more though obviously!

I'd be surprised if Carrick isn't back. With medication, eye infections normally clear up in a couple of days, don't they? And Rooney should be ok to play at least a half. Hernandez will be fine to play, I reckon.

----------De Gea-----------
Baines--Rio---Vidic---Rafael
Zaha -----Carrick----Fabregas---Ronaldo
----------Kagawa--------RVP-------

Don't be so ridiculous... Rafael's both injured, and suspended!

I think you might have missed something else too....

Kagawa will most likely be on the bench as I don't think he's fully up to scratch fitness wise yet. Other than that, the lineup is fine. :p

De Gea should probably stand in front of the goal though.

We must beat Swansea. That said, I believe we will do better in our first 5 or 6 than many think. I can see us dropping no more than a point.

Anyway, nearly there now whatever happens. Summer months are getting harder and harder, and there was even a generous amount of summer football this year.

No presser from Moyes today, but I'd fancy Carrick to start and Valencia and Kagawa to make the bench. Probably one of Hernandez / Rooney to make the bench too. Evans, Nani, Young, and one of Rooney/Hernandez to not travel for me.

Retarded post.

baines is a left back

I'm of the opposite opinion, I think we'll start very slow. That's the traditional Dave start to the season and we've looked shocking all pre season. Dave doesn't seem to know his best first 11 and our midfield hasn't been addressed. Don't feel overly positive at the moment!

Everton have traditionally always started very slow out of the blocks under Daves leadership. It's one of the many things I was unsure about him being United manager. I can only remember two seasons when they started the season well and that was last season and the season they finished 4th. Normally they were always playing catch up.

I don't really uderstand this mentality. It's the same as the people saying 'Moyes would promise to make signings at Everton too, but ended up making none'. Which is utter nonsense anyway.

It's all irrelevant to me. He's at Manchester United now.

That's absurd logic. That's like saying: "I don't care what RVP did at Arsenal". You have to judge everyone, players and staff on their records in previous seasons, be it at United or other clubs. Not doing so is idiotic frankly. It's like reading the second half of a book because the first half is irrelevant.

I'll start to judge Moyes when the season actually begins.

Yeah, I think he's on international duty in USA and is only back in training today, so might not be ready to start.

So you think we'll win all our opening games? I'd love if youvwere right, but I can't see it. From the first 6, I'd be ecstatic with over 11 points.

I'd be up for treating our first six Premier League games like the Champions League Group Stage. Win our Home games (maybe trade off the Home win over Chelsea for an Away win at Swansea) and be happy with draws at City and Liverpool (beating Palace and West Brom). They'll probably be a loss in there somewhere though, not just because the fixtures are tough, but the squad just isn't at the right level yet for various reasons and I think us fans will just have to understand that.

I do think we have a good run-in for the last 8 games where I reckon we could take 20 points+ though, depending on injuries at that stage, but that's thinking way too far ahead.

DDG
Fabio Vidic Evans Evra
Carrick Jones/Anderson
Nani Kagawa Welbeck
RVP

Subs: Lindergaard, Smalling, Jones/Anderson, Cleverly,Valencia, Giggs, Hernandez

After a summer of wonderful muppetry, its a relief to get back to the football.

Mmm, whats the thinking that it'll be Clev starting alongside Carrick?

Just going with the fact that he's played two matches in one week, and hasn't looked particularly good.

Bit harsh, probably right about the two matches though. So more likely Ando will start then. Has Evans featured in any pre season games? I've missed all of them except the Charity Shield.

That's rubbish - at Everton he was working under utterly different conditions and constraints. How he managed on a shoe string with mid-table players hardly has much bearing on how he'll manage at United.

A better analogy would be saying "RVP's shit because he only won one trophy in 8 years at Arsenal."

He's looked pretty decent. Certainly better than Anderson has in pre-season. And you were willing to start Jones over him in midfield? Ok... :wenger:

No you're right, he hasn't looked bad. I'd rather he start. But that's the line-up i suspect we might see, not the one i'd prefer.

Disagree completely. If 9/10 seasons Dave's team started off badly then its more than a simple coincidence its a pattern in his management. Just because he's moved up a tier in club management doesn't mean you can't still analyse what he did at Everton. All you're doing is making excuses for one of his weakness' in management. Whether that weakness carries over to United is up for debate and we'll see in 5/6 games time whether its a valid argument or not.
