That look

Be funny if they made a bet and Giggs bet Hernandez would score if they brought him on and then got him to take the pen thinking haha I won the bet.

How dare LvG he's alienating all our players and nobody wants to play for him just ask Pedro. Very unprofessional of him.

I have a very hard time believing the notion suggested that LvG played Hernandez based on Giggs suggestion. Hernandez is not some unknown player that Giggs brought from his Sunday five-a-side team. He's a player that's been here longer than most and scored more goals for this club than anybody bar Rooney. Think about that!

I do think LvG and Giggs are struggling for solutions to the lack of depth in the striker role, and with LvG's recent statements about how Hernandez will be one of our options, there is surely a real desire for him to perform right away. Unfortunately it was a really embarrassing penalty and if anything, LvG's look was in anticipation of the criticism he knows he will face about not bringing in another striker.
Second highest scorer after Rooney , that is mad . I suppose it shows the level of rebuilding LVG has had to do .

For some reasons I feel it's unprofessional from LVG

He is just staring at Giggs, how is that unprofessional? I somewhat understand where you are coming from, but the facial expression of Giggs contributes to that way more.

To me it was " I told you he wasn't good enough" to which Giggs responds "yeah you're right actually"

LVG's expression is fecking priceless. Absolutely hilarious!! What makes it brilliant is the fact that he doesn't lose his shit.

Giggsy role in this excellent comedy sketch is just as important. The glare back and stare down whilst chewing his gum and his impeccable timing in the rising of the brows... sheer comedy genius!

But whoever it's from it has implication of ' I told you ' which means one of them was expecting failure and that is damaging for Hernandez and for the team in general.

Jesus wept. A knowing glance is being unprofessional now? You must really hate managers who walk to the touch-line and scream at their players.

Anyway, there's so many different ways that could be interpreted. Perhaps they had a discussion beforehand about the pitch and the fact it might be slippy? Or a disagreement about who should take the next pen? Or a bet on the final score?

Is tThis a repeat of last season when we had the two exchange looks and all sorts of posters went nuts thinking it meant a huge falling out between Giggs and LvG?

Pretty much. Although the consensus this time has been more along the lines it was funny and essentially harmless.

I took it more like

LVG: "WTF is Chicharito on penalties for he is not no.1 on my penalty process list he's after Romero and Mike Smalling"

Giggs: "feck knows"

it was so bloody sh!t and just plain pathetic an attempt at a penalty it didn't even need words.

Giggs's little shrug is just as funny.

I'm annoyed the Roon didn't bag a 4th. Hernandez is mere backup fodder, we don't need to keep his pecker up. But Rooney and his total is essential

Was that a direct reaction after LvG slapped Giggs and Giggs just stared him down? I thought that might cause a commotion, to me the chemistry seems great between them. As if LvG is the boss and most fear him but there's a mutual respect between LvG and Giggsy and Giggs is the one most likely to challenge his ideas.

Isn't that two guys who work together every day looking at each other and communicating non-verbally? What's with all the interpretative stuff? It can range from a personal joke to a testosterone filled challenge... Only they know.

Don't we all do this everyday with people we work with, live with, or just friends?

What are you all going on about Hernandez for? Clearly Giggs let rip a real room-clearer and Van Gaal just smelled it.

'Did you just...?'
'...
...
...
... yup.'

Maybe LVG told Hernandez to wear studs.

I think it could have been just a "WTF" type expression at how unlucky Hernandez was to slip up; LVG was exasperated at the absurdity of the situation.

It could have been critical as some have suggested above, but its just as likely to be very neutral. Anyways, it was funny nonetheless.

I bet that's what Chicharito's been telling himself.

I bet that's what Chicharito's been telling himself.

Van Gaal himself said after the game it was a slip - without, he admitted, having been able to watch a replay yet. So he knew that when he gave Giggs that look.

It's just funny, no need to make anything of it.

I bet Van Gaal would have kept staring at Giggs until Giggs looked away first. He probably did not care about the penalty miss at all, but more so that he won this staring battle. He is truly mental .

IMO...
LvG probably thought the fecker shot wide and gave a stare to Giggs like "What the feck was that?"
But by the post match interview came to know that he had slipped and did not make a big deal of it later.

It's Giggs' look which is the one to discuss - not LVGs.

I think it's more like;

LVG: "This morning I was walking along the beach by the boat house when I saw a figure standing on the pier. It was a beautiful woman, but something was wrong; she was sobbing. I asked her what was wrong but she could not answer me. She opened her mouth to speak but not a single word left her. What did this mean? Was it due to her own fallacies that this woman could not utter what she wished to say, or had another caused this? Had she been struck down by love and now found herself in a place where the guilt of deceit, pain, loss had forced her into a vow of silence? What did this mean?
Giggs: "pffft dunno".

None of us have a clue what the look really meant.

Giggs has probably been telling VG we need a new striker. He has a "told you so" expression, and Van Gaal's look seems to be "don't you say a word".

The guy on the left seems to be wondering what's for dinner tonight.

I can't see that!

He wouldn't be human if he didn't react at all & I can't see how this is any worse than the 'head in hands' response that it would have received from most other managers.

It was a strange performance from Chich! it was a really big opportunity for him and he just didn't look up for it at all. It's not the missed chances that bother me so much as how 'down' he seemed to look. I've been one of those saying that we don't need a new striker, that Hernandez easily good enough to do a job for us - but that performance was really worrying.
