Because he actually is a good player and a powerhouse when he can be bothered so it seemed like a good idea at the time. He spent the entire time jogging and walking up front incidentally.

Not unlike when Rashford is about to come on, and you think "just maybe he'll turn up". Difference here is the manager had another sub option to punish that.
 
Liverpool have no divine right to win this penalty shoot out, but of course, they will, as if having a divine right to do so.

Yeah Loftus Cheek was totally the wrong sub to make when there’s acres of space and tired legs. And you have Werner.

Why not use your 50-60m striker in Werner?!

Puts the average Loftus-Cheek on, only to take him off 10mins later.

Never had a better chance to beat a Pool without Fabinho, Salah early on, and VD late on.
