The 20 mins after RVP went off...

Much is being talked about how RvP can't play with Rooney now. They played brilliantly last season, but people seem to ignore. Now, it's Robin's fault, not our usually mediocre tactics or our subpar midfield? Not even Carrick is saving us this season.

Rooney and RvP are pure class, and can play togheter, this is a fact. IMHO, the key is a better (way better) CMs behind them.

You could swear we played these 20 minutes against Real or Bayern, judging the reactions in this thread.

To be fair when they did play well together last season Rooney was far more withdrawn, even playing as an out-and-out midfielder in some of the games. When they're both playing up front it affects our play as they're too similar in terms of their movement.

There've been loads of times this season where they've both come short at the same time or both made the same forward runs instead of working as a partnership where one drags defenders away and the other moves into the resultant space. Ultimately that lack of cohesion in the middle is part of the reason teams find it easy to force us to play wide, which is why we look far more capable through the middle when we only have one of them on the field.

i can't wait for the DVD of those last 20 minutes to be released we were so good, so fluid, so vibrant in attack

6 pages on this - reading too much into a world class player who has hit a spot of bad form

his goal rate is still impressive - he'll get through it and we will have to improve the supply line to him

He got injured against Munich and we subsequently lost the League to Chelsea and went out of Europe (not his fault in the slightest because we were on course in both competitions when he was fit).

That's exactly my point! Getting injured at the most crucial period in the season. Keeping fit is also part of being a good player. The long & short of it was that we failed to win the league that season and Rooney was the main man.

We won the League in 2011 and got to a Champions League final with Rooney as undoubtedly our main man scoring a number of goals no other no 10 has scored in recent times.

We won that league because of Berbatov & Hernandez. Was that not the season Rooney held a whole Man Utd hostage that he was going to leave for City? Where's your memory? Berbatov won the golden boot that season, Hernandez chipped in his bit when Berba tired out & Nani(God bless him) played his heart out assisting about 19 league goals that season.

As for killer instinct I must have missed when RVP scored those 2 sitters against Madrid last season, also I must have imagined Rooney's 2 goals and MOM performance against City last season. I must have missed him dragging our underperforming team through games on a number of occasions this season.

The most decisive goal in that match was scored by RVP. The goal that turned 1 point to 3 points was by RVP. I won't disagree with you that Rooney can be good when he's arsed but this relentless fellatio given to him by some Caftards can be nauseating.

You are clearly biased against him so you can't make a valid argument. For the record I'd hate to see RVP go but we have to go about trying something new because things ain't working this season and Rooney has shown more than RVP has in the last 3 months and more importantly has shown much more desire and hard work which is what we need right now.

Of course, the last 3 months epitomise the entire Man Utd history. Van Persie was injured for almost 3 months & he's scored more league goals than Rooney.

As for single handed titles they don't exist. Messi or Ronaldo has never won a trophy on their own and incidentally Rooney actually played a pretty big part in the most successful trophy period Ronaldo has had thus far. Likewise Guardiola got rid of the lazy players at Barcelona and turned them into a great "team" (something which we haven't really had since 09 because we replaced too many quality players with lesser ones and more importantly failed to evolve our tactical play).

So who's lazier between Rooney & RVP. RVP completed 38/38 league games in his last season at Arsenal & his first season at Man Utd. Until Moyes ruined his training regime with Al-Qaeda type of training in the deserts of Kandahar, RVP was doing very well as far as fitness was concerned. Rooney has never appeared in every league game of a season in his 10-year career at Man Utd.

Are you one of those Chinese/Korean people who still hold a grudge against Japan for what happened over 70yrs ago? That's the only reason I can think of with all your biased view on Kagawa.

I'm glad I didn't drink anything while reading that:lol:

although the rvp v rooney debate wont ever reach messi v ronaldo levels of pettiness, it can be quite tedious to read through

One of the dafter posts I've read in a season of daft posts. So it's Rooney's fault that he does an ankle against Bayern but Moyes' fault that Van Persie's had 3 months of injuries this season? If keeping fit is part of being a good player then by your reckoning Van Persie's been dogshit for all but 2 seasons of his career.

There are plenty of valid criticisms you can make of Rooney, but it's laughable to have a go at him for getting injured and 'being lazy' whilst talking about Van Persie as if he's shining beacon of health and vitality who plays 38 games a season. Since 2004 Rooney's played 84 more competitive games than Van Persie has, despite being 2 years younger.

Amazing how many people seem to have turned on rvp since rooney signed a new deal.
Indeed. Also amazing how many now seem to be u-turning.

Tell me about it, if ever a 20 minute spell has been exaggerated.. Barely warrants a thread.

ffs blaming players for being injured, it takes a certain amount of stupidity to do that. Like he had a say in him getting injured against Bayern :wenger:

That's wild. It's like the idiots who still blame Beckham for England not winning the World Cup while he was captain.

Read his last gem.

A personal feeling RvP will be on the subs bench for Liverpool. Game that matters is Olympiakos.

PS: I'm not in anyway saying Liverpool does not matter. It's a huge game due to our rivalry.

Seems quite a few people have found that comment funny, I just think it's incredible the difference between Asia and Europe.

Anyway not the place to discuss that...
