Television The Caf' Anime Thread

Would you say it's good right off the bat? Watched the first episode or two and it was alright. Ended up blitzing One Piece till 110 instead and haven't got round to continuing ERASED yet.
I think it's been great from the start, yeah. It's quite impressive that I still have absolutely no idea where it's going to go.

The story gets more captivating with each episode definitely. The first two episodes pale in comparison to the recent episodes

It's really good. Not sure why I stopped watching it, will probably get on with it soon. I'm near the end of the desert arc.
Congratulations mate, you've made it! Hell of a ride once you reach Alabasta -> Skypiea -> Water 7 -> Enies Lobby -> Thriller Bark -> Sabody Archipelago -> Amazon Lilly.
And to top it all off, Impel Down + Marineford.

Skypeia (The next arc) isn't as good as the one you just finished. However, the one after that (Water 7/Enies Lobby) is arguably the best arc of the series. That's also probably where the Straw Hats start making a scene on the world scale and the bigger picture of the whole world starts to come together. Thriller Bark is abit better then Skypeia and is quite short. Then, the next few arcs leading up to the timeskip are just a master class in storytelling. Honestly, they are the three/four most gripping arcs in anime that I have watched and all feel so fluid put together.

So yeah, you have a lot to look forwards to.

Loved Skypeia personally, whereas Water 7 wasn't as enjoyable for me. Thriller bark is one of my favourites, was just so funny, from start to finish!

Started rewatching FMA Brotherhood. I haven't watched the original in forever but it strikes me that the first episode is way better in the first series (starting in Lior) but I enjoy the storyline so much better in Brotherhood, leading as it does to the massive crescendo.

Just about to hit halfway through FMA Brotherhood. I haven't watched the original series in a long time, but they probably did do Lior and Hughes better, but they were stretching out the sagas as far as they could because the source material hadn't been finished at that time. However, I love the arc of the story so much. I don't have the benefit of not knowing what's coming next anymore, but it really feels like there are a number of times where everything could fall apart but doesn't without being too deus-ex-machina-y. And the characters... even more than I'd realised I'd forgotten, and so many more yet to come.

I've noticed a few new things this time around... for instance, there's only really 4-5 pieces of background incidental music in the whole series, but there's so good that I barely even notice. There's been a few moments also where I've thought, how did that person end up there etc, but mostly everything gets explained very well and fits a believable plot. Looking forward to how it progresses from here on in because it just builds and builds.

Just finished Shinsekai Yori yesterday. My God, what an anime. 25 of the most well thought out anime episodes I've ever seen. The beginning will make so much more sense on my next viewing, when I know where it's going.

Think you've convinced me what to watch next!

Wey! Enjoy. It's got beautiful art, and it's a hell of a story, though I wasn't hooked (like, I can't stop watching this before I'm done) until the last 5 episodes or so.

I know what you mean. Didn't get hooked on Code Geass till the last few episodes, and that's one of my favourite ever animes.

Adding this to my list now after you folks chatting about it :)

By the by, how is everyone watching anime these days? I know sites come and go and the ones I used years ago are probably gone now. I came across Animefrost when I wanted to watch FMA again, where do ye watch?

Finished Shinsekai Yori. At first, I appreciated that it was just 25 eps because I didn't want to give loads of time to it, but by the end I thought it was a bit rushed. Way too much foreshadowing too, there was only one thing that had me guessing at the end, the rest was too clear. Shame the animation went weird in a few episodes too.

I'm probably in the minority, but if I had to go for a psychic gory thriller, I'd choose Elfin Lied over it. However, I think I would definitely give the manga of Shinsekai Yori a go at some stage.

If it's something that's aired and finished I usually just download it. I use animeshow and animefreak most of the time.

Latest ERASED episode was a little too predictable for me. Looking forward to the twist.

Moribito looks beautiful. Is it any good? @Invictus
IMO - yes, definitely. It's really slow because it's based on just 1 portion of an 8 volume manga, and the plot-line isn't exceptionally exciting. But, if you like anime with great world building, and character development (like Lone Wolf and Cub or Kemono no Sōja), then you'll love Moribito. Plus, it's a visual treat (not Miyazaki level per se, but not far from it either)! :)

Just finished watching Hunter x Hunter, had heard so much about it for a long time but could never get into it. Finally sat down and got ridiculously addicted. It was a great ride with some of the best character development I've seen in any show let alone anime. It's also the only anime I've watched where the main character is a weakling and is treated as that, he doesn't become the strongest in a few days and doesn't become the strongest by the end.

Probably features one of the best arcs in all of anime history and this scene is ridiculous

Also made me jump straight to Togashi's other work called Yu Yu Hakusho which is another great shounen

@mancan92 might wanna spoiler that mate!

Togashi is a right little bastard for taking this hiatus. I'm worried that when he does eventually continue the manga that he'll end it prematurely.

Where are you up to in Yu Yu Hashuko?

Episode 108 near the end. It's also very interesting more your regular shounen but also got some great characters and awesome battle scenes.

Hunter x Hunter is actually coming off hiatus again!!!!

Aye read that earlier, might actually read the manga then!

I started Yu Yu around the time I started One Piece, ended up getting really hooked on the latter though and dropped Yu Yu after third or fourth ep. Think it's worrth carrying on with?

definitely it isn't as diversive as one piece but has a very interesting focused plot with some great characters. Since you liked hunter x hunter youll definitely like yu yu.
