The Manager's press conference today at 12:00 BST

And that's also a main reason why we need to strenghten despite our players being in good form right now. These injuries won't go away, especially not with more games to play.

Jones injured a-fecking-gain. That, ladies and gents, is why we simply cannot go into next season with him and Smalling as our first choice central defensive pairing.

In fact, you could argue that neither of them should be part of our first choice pairing. Not until they prove themselves capable of playing more than a dozen consecutive games at least once in their career.

I'm about done with Phil Jones tbh, Cannot possibly keep the 3 injury amigos next season.

Fe.k sake I just wanted to wait for the game without any worries. Now I'm going through this and Carrick, Rojo, Jones out thread like a mad man. :D

If Blind and Jones are fit we are still in decent shape. Shaw can play on the left and Blind as the DM.

I felt a calm confidence that we will win and we should by all means still play for victory.

He looks quite uncomfortable when asked specifics about the injuries. He dodges the "what exactly is wrong with each of them" and "how long will each player be out" questions completely, only saying "this match" … anyone else think a cunning ruse might be afoot?

I would not be surprised if we go back to 352 but I think that would be a mess with the attack Chelsea have.

I will laugh my arse of if one of them if not 3 of them appear in the lineup tomorrow. :D

LvG: "I hope that we can recover two of them (Blind and Jones) but Carrick and Rojo are out."

Hope. If we can get these two back I'd be delighted.

De Gea
Valencia Smalling Jones Shaw
Blind
Herrera Fellaini
Mata Rooney Young

And...relax...

‘We have four injuries who played the last match so that’s not so good for us,’ said Van Gaal. ‘We had very good hope that we should recover two of the four but it’s not like that. Carrick is out and Rojo is out, but also Blind and Jones.

‘It’s because of the distance between the matches. Blind and Jones were very close to playing but it was not enough.

I thought he said

"We had very good hope that we could recover two of the four, but it is not like that. So Carrick is out, and Rojo is out, but also Blind and Jones"

Just shows how much we need another CB and midfielder in the summer. I'm glad we'll be getting them for sure. As for the Chelsea game - a loss wouldn't be the end of the world, but I'm confident we'll get something from the game even without Carrick and Blind.

yeah, that's what he says in the video alright.

I've been completely done with him for a while. 3rd best centreback at best and worst injury record.

I was reading a few old threads the other day and literally nothing has changed. Everyone was moaning that the more talented centreback, Smalling was at right back, while Jones was steaming around rash as you like out of position and in one of the threads, twice and about 5 pages apart, they were moaning about his injuries and how he'll grow out of it. He's not changed a bit in 4 years.

He definitely says he "had" hope about Blind and Jones, so if we go by what he's saying they're out.
Back to bricking it then.

Chelsea are so lucky, 2 scraped wins in a row due to awful GK mistakes and now us, one of the form teams in the league severely weakened with injuries.

Despite that I think we can get a draw, Van Gaal will come up with a plan.

Doubt Blind and Jones will be back as some are suggested, but it seems that they'll be back for the Everton game, thankfully. Not sure how long Carrick and Rojo are out, though.

Asked to explain how Rojo, Jones and Blind got injured, van Gaal said: "They are all from the game against Manchester City. Blind has played on because he always wants to play on, but the tackle from [Vincent] Kompany was of course the reason.

feck Company! And some pundits say he would have been unlucky to get a red?

"its not logical", has he been catching up on Star Trek since Leonard Nimoy passed away?

3-5-2 returns..
Young and val as wingbacks.. Blackett McNair and Smalling at the back

Can't believe these injuries... would take a jammy draw tomorrow.

I still think we will tonk em... Jose hasnt a clue what we will do. All his preparations gone through the window.

Big disappointment, we we re looking good for at least a draw but are there for the taking now. Whatever formation or lineup we pick we are struggling in defence and midfield and if we have to play RVP or falcao we blunt our attack as well.

Chelsea are playing poorly but they should have enough to win the game now.

Ddg
Valencia smalling McNair young
Rooney
Herrera fellaini
Mata RVP di Maria
Let's just score more than them yea

really disappointing news given how confident we all were, i'd have probably taken a draw anyway but i expected us to be positive in getting it whereas now chances are we'll be a bit more negative in our approach.
having said all that, imagine the confidence boost we'd get if we beat them now, with so many key players out - its not beyond the realms

"We had very good hope that we should recover two of the four, but it's not like that. So Carrick is out and Rojo is out but also Blind and Jones. That's the worst scenario."

:(

I think if there's anything that Van Gaal has said to throw people off the scent in the presser it could be the suggestion Rooney will play in midfield. He wouldn't go as far to completely lie about injuries, but the suggestion Rooney would be moved back seemed to have a "maybe" element and the fact he'd never want to give up his line up suggests he may be playing games. I think there's a good chance we'll see Herrera and Fellaini at the base of midfield with Di maria/Young/Mata as the 3 behind Rooney.

@Dominos I really, really, really hope you're right.

On another note, does anyone have a link to the full presser?

Thanks in advance if so.
