The MMA thread

Silva made quick work of Irvin. Moving up in weight didn't seem to affect him too much although he didn't really have to prove it. The cut over Irvins eye was huge. Nasty.

Silva is just in a different league to everyone else out there. The "pound for pound" description gets over-used a lot in combat sports but he really is phenomenal. The speed and accuracy (and power) of his striking is frightening.

How about that KO in the last fight shown on Setanta? Kung Fu panda eat your heart out!

I couldn't believe the cut on Irvin's face.

I suspect his cheekbone ws broken judging by the expression on his face when he fell to the ground

Bisping vs Leben should never be a main event....

No it shouldn't. I can't see why there isn't at least one title fight on each card. Surely BJ or Nogeira are due a title defence by now.

The top fighters in the UFC do not fight half as much as they should. Bisping v Leben will be an average fight at best,

Nogueira won't fight until the end of the next TUF as he and Mir are the coaches

Anyone watching the PPV this saturday? It should be better than the last one. Can't wait to see Lesner and Herring get it on.

Predicting another Lesnar defeat Swerny? Lesnar's got skills, just doesn't know how to use them to his advantage yet - plus I think this is a better fight for him than Mir was.

Saint Pierre is a nailed on victory for me.

I really am on the fence with Lesnar, I just think he'll make another fatal error.

Chalk it up to lack of experience. he should have started in a smaller organization to learn the ropes.

I hope I'm wrong to be honest, he's got talent (unlike Kimbo).

I'll be going for Lesner and GSP. I think Lesner has mistakes on him but Herring really hasn't got the bjj to punish him. I'd expect Herring to be a matchup that will suit Lesner down to the ground.

I am really really looking forward to Florian v Huerta. It'll be interesting to see how golden boy Huerta goes against a top contender. The winner will obviously face the winner of GSP and Fitch.

Florian and Huerta are 155.

GSP is 170.

The winner of Florian Huerta should geta shot at BJ Penn, but apparently Penn wants to move back up to 170 for a rematch with GSP.

My mistake so. I don't know why I was thinking that. I'd love to see Penn and GSP again.

fecking hell, just seen what time UFC 87 is on, 3am - 6am Sunday morning UK time. I'm setting off to Wembley at 8am, looks like I might have to give it a miss.

Anyone know where & when you can watch a replay - Setanta only show it once, then its seems you have to wait an age for it to be shown on Bravo.

Will still be traveling back from Wembley at 8pm, besides I've got a plan - going to bed about 7pm tonight this way I can get up early (3am) - I may even start drinking.

A couple of big fights, sure don't want to miss out on this one.

I'm finished work at 2am so not too bad! It's probably the best card since Stacked.

UFC only 5 minutes away. I can't wait for the main 3 fights. For what it's worth, here are my predictions (which will probably be completely wrong)!

Georges St Pierre v Jon Fitch

I'd expect St. Pierre to beat him in the second round. His overall superior skills should see him beat Fitch, but it won't be easy. I think he will win with a knock out.

Brock Lesner v Heath Herring

I think this matchup will suit Lesner. He can go at Herring as he did against Mir but I seriously doubt he will be caught in any BJJ submission by The Texas Crazy Horse. I think Lesner will knock him out in the first couple of minutes.

Kenny Florian v Roger Huerta

To me, this is the most intriguing fight. I don't know which way to go, it could be really close. I'm going to go with Florian due to his wider experience. I think he will win on points. I like Huerta though and he is a future champion. I don't think he has fought anyone as good as Florian yet though.

Absolutely spot on prediction!

After the fight, Florian even said "I like Huerta though and he is a future champion"

Brilliant performance by Lesnar, a one sided masterclass, Heath Herring got put on his arse after 15 seconds & his eye instantly closed - the crazy horse was a broken man. All three judges gave 30-26 Lesnar.

As long as Lesnar stays away from anyone with Jiu-Jitsu skills he could have a good career, needs to learn to stop playing to the crowd though - looked a bit stupid at the end trying to ride the crazy horse like sea-biscuit.

That right hand was fecking crazy - dropped Herring like a sack of shite. Credit to Herring for making it to the final bell. Those knees to the body were brutal. Its hard to believe that was only Lesnar's third MMA fight. He's still got alot of scope to improve his ju-jitsu.

Yeah, how many opportunities did Lesnar have to take Herring's back & didn't take them? Noboby is going to beat Lesnar in a wrestling match, his body is too wide - it must have felt like two people were on top of Herring.

Just watching the GSP fight, looks different class compared to Fitch.
