Turned it off after the first 30 mins so nope, that's definitely not it. I don't really like Whedon much if I'm honest, Firefly and the Avengers are supposedly his two best but they're just ok.
The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988)
Daniel Day Lewis plays Tomas, the suave womaniser who floats through life even when it's at its most oppressive (1960s Czechoslovakia). Juliette Binoche plays his wife. Lena Olin (above) gets her kit off a few times. Decent movie, although someone will probably say it's a crap movie but a great book.
Temple Grandin (2010)
Biopic about Temple Grandin - "I think in pictures, I don't think in language", diagnosed with autism at 4, master's degree at 28 - played be Claire Danes. Good movie, Claire Danes is great. Well worth a watch, she had an interesting life and it's well done by HBO as always. Temple Grandin said she loved the movie herself.

Don't waste your time, it's slow to build up and doesn't actually build up to anything at all. The bits that are supposed to have you on edge and excited/scared are terrible.

Weekend - Sort of a gay version of Before Sunrise, but instead of pseudo-intellectual discussions, more "real talk" and the realness factor was definitely the film's greatest strength. So yeah, decent film.
Five Easy Pieces - Jack Nicholson plays a former piano prodigy suffering from an existential crisis, and puts in a very understated performance. I didn't really care much for it during almost half of it's duration but it sort of redeemed itself with some really good moments towards the end. A subtle film that offered no easy solutions. A good but perhaps a bit forgettable film.

Hmmmm...I really like this one because it's Nicholson acting rather than doing his schtick. The diner scene is a classic too. I love the whole vibe of these kind of films from that period....the notion that you can just disappear and live a totally different life elsewhere without anybody knowing who you are or where you came from. It's an unrealistic premise these days. The 1970's was the last great decade for the US for me, and films like Junior Bonner, Thunderbolt & Lightfoot, Taxi Driver are great at showing that decline and the alienation of ordinary people.
I watched it last night for the second time and agree with you, it is terrible

When it comes to Transformers, yes. And proud of it!
You could probably file Badlands and even Midnight Cowboy and Paris, Texas as having that same theme of alienation even though they are not from the same decade.
Yeah...Midnight Cowboy is probably the first and the best. It's almost 1970's! I'd probably throw Harold & Maude in too.

A fantastic film. Charmed me all the way through. Well worth hunting out. French odd couple type of story. Bit cliched 2 worlds collide stuff but that never takes away from the charm of the film.

A movie that sums up just about all of Lens Wiseman's directorial efforts so far. Visually stunning and very well shot but ultimately crippled by a terrible storyline, a terrible script and lacklustre acting from just about everyone other than Kate Beckinsale (who is surprisingly good as a sexy badass type). This isn't a wholesale recreation of the Arnie version as this is set on earth (surprisingly a futuristic Britain) but it still has frequent nods toward the 1990 movie. Amazingly manages to be less well imagined, executed and less intelligent than the 1990 version especially with the existential elements. Watch the original if you have to as its a far superior movie.

Castaway on the Moon - A suicidal man jumps off a bridge, gets washed up on an island, decides to stay there, then a weird sociophobic girl who lives a fake life on the web observes him with a camera from a high-rise, initially thinking he's an alien they sort of bond with each other. A nice relatively unknown feel-good gem.

Good film, probably Nicholson's best before he took the long road to complete self-parody.
Total Recall - Forgettable film, very poor. Visually is is superb but that's pointless as it's a terrible story and pales in comparison to the original - 3/10

Jennifer Aniston was good in her role, the fake German guy was very annoying and the kids also become an annoyance after the first few scenes. The ending became obvious and it was a disappointment that they just went to the cliched ending in this without explaining why certain things happened. Although, Brooklyn Decker was - 5/10

- 5/10Being There - Talk about a final scene leaving a lasting impression, they really shouldn't have put the outtakes in the credits straight after and instead just let that scene sink in for everyone. The story could be described as a Forrest Gump type story but with satirical elements and also drained of sentimentality...Very good film.
Cabin in the woods
This is a movie which left my mind wondering if it was good or bad, so I'll say it was average, but horror fans might really like it.
José and Pilar - Documentary that follows the last years in the life of Portuguese writer José Saramago, his work, his daily life and his relationship with his wife. He gives his views on life, death and old age. Haunting stuff.
WIN WIN- Really good film, manages to make you laugh and upset you. Some really great performances too.

This film.... They pretty much copied the opening 20 minutes word for word with different characters. It was strange hearing the word 'What the HELL is going on here' and 'BULLSHIT' with a soft american voice as opposed to a heavy austrian accent. His fat white ugly builder buddy became a handsome slim black man, Kate Beckinsale became two characters merged into one, it wasn't so much a remake as it was like watching some strange alternate reality.
It also made loads of little references to the original, which was a bit... um... strange. Why did they do that? It was like they had two modes, either force anything that was cool from the original into this one (like three boob lady), or take anything cool and turn it in a not so subtle nod to the first (2 weeks lady and arm chopped off in elevator). Oh it did also have a third mode, change things that were cool and make them lame. Like when Farrell had to remove the phone from his hand, just imagine someone taking a freakin' phone from inside their hand! That's gotta hurt way more than pulling a bug out your nose right? Well no... Farrell barely flinches as he cuts a deep inch long gash into his palm and pulls out some lame metallic shit.
I just don't get it. It seems pointless. At least some remakes try something new, or maybe try to bring foreign films to american audiences, which whilst annoying at least has something to offer. But this was just shameless, 'You know what guys... That Total Recall was a good film, we should update it, and by update I mean keep 90% of it the same, and make the 10% we do change terrible'.
The best bits were some pretty decent Man vs Mech action and good choreography in the fights. It probably could have done with more than one scene of Kate Beckinsale in her underwear.

Dark Shadows - I have absolutely no idea what this film was. And neither does it. It isn't a comedy, it isn't a drama, there isn't a plot, it has an Alice Cooper concert in the middle of it. It's mainly a bunch of vaguely connected things happening to slightly too many characters whilst Johnny Depp does his eccentric Englishman schtick in a silly haircut.
I agree although I cant be totally sure because I fell asleep and missed the last 20 minutes or so
I does have a funny line about Liverpool in it, and Eva Green has great tits. That's largely what I've taken from it.
