It wasn't just about Villa as the next Prem game. The more first XI players you play in any given EL game, the more chance for one (or several) of them to get injured, and the less rested they become generally.

If you look our the several Prem results after the first of the two Dortmund games, up until the point where our home draw against WBA last Monday made winning the title a very long shot, they read:

* Away win at Villa
* Home win against Bournemouth
* Away draw at Anfield
* Home win against United.
* Away win against Stoke

That's 4 wins and a draw. The draw was at a ground (Anfield) where it's very difficult to go and win, and the away win was at a ground (Stoke) where few away teams manage to win.

That's a very good sequence of result by any standards, a sequence that kept us in the title race. And it's easy to say that games against Villa and Bournemouth were 'gimmes', but the reality is that slip-ups are can easily happen unless a team is 100% on its game ... as our home draw against WBA showed.

So I stand by my view that Pochettino was right to prioritise the Prem over the EL.

Totally agree, and I'm not sure where the idea comes from that Spurs fans were upset about it, all those I speak with thought it was the right thing to do.

They acted like total dicks today and I'm glad the game finished as it did.
 
They messed it up over the last two games for sure. Not the best time to have a meltdown.
 
I've enjoyed watching them and they've played some fantastic football but it was hilarious how they decided to start just booting the ever loving shit out of their opponents at the end.:lol:

I think they took the 'injury' time quite literally.
 
I loved their aggression tonight. Kicking the shit out of those horrible rentboys. Was great to watch.
 
Shocking temperament tonight, probably not helped by playing Chelsea who aren't exactly angels themselves. Everyone will be talking about Leicester winning the league tomorrow, but I hope their indiscretions aren't glossed over.
 
Who cares about losing the PL title to Leceister.

Spurs are building a new stadium and may have a vested interest in a NFL franchise, that's the real title right there.

Just like you didn't manage to overdo Leicester for the title.

Because it's Leicester who are the EPL champs of 2015/16. The trends are worrying for Spurs.

It's funny. I really like Spurs, I love Pochettino's way of operating.

But still, I found tonight absolutely hilarious. Largely because of what a p***k @GlastonSpur is.

Rather have seen Leicester win it in front of their fans.

Spurs bottled it after the first goal. Lost their heads after the second, they should have been pushing for the win, instead they were attempting to break legs.

Gone down in my estimation. Never thought of them as that kind of team.

CL football is guaranteed for next season, with 3rd place at the very least secured: that's a worrying trend? If so it's worrying for other clubs, not for Spurs.

I think they got very nervous and once the 2nd Chelsea goal was scored, Spurs got reckless and desperate. The result was a bunch of fouls and counless yellow cards (I actually did lose count of the number of yellows which were being shown in the final 15 odd minutes).
 
Completely lost their heads in that second half. They'll be gutted if they finish behind Arsenal now.

How many retrospective bans do we think are getting handed out? Lamela and Dembele?

Spurs are perennial bottlers. I have followed cricket for years and they remind me of the Proteas.

The talent is there,but when the going gets tough the heads drop. It's an inter-generational thing too.

No matter what the Spurs fans try to say ,it's true. I can still see Arsenal catching up with them too.

Number of players getting retrospective bans is definitely a worrying trend.
