The Spurs thread

Finished 3rd with less points than AVB got in the end....really puts into prospective just how average that side is.

Poch and Wenger....lotsofsmiliefaces...

The contest for who has the biggest....bottle. ;)

Back below Arse where they belong, their best season since the 1960's and still below them, Jesus, finally might be able to take Glaston off of ignore now.

What a withering end to their season.

Looking at that table, you'd never know in years to come they were even in the title race!

Finished on 70 points. An improvement on the 64 points Poch got them in '15.

But not much better than the 69 points they got in '14 under Sherwood after taking over mid-season from AVB.

And worse than the 72 points AVB got them in 13.

Not much better than the the 69 points Redknapp got them in '12. And worse than the 72 he got them in '10.

Basically, Pochettino took them backwards a bit for a season, then took them back to the same level they have been for half a decade. Hasn't actually improved them much at all.

Why do people go on points, when points are only ever relative to the season you're in!
You only have to look at some of the Fergie years, one year a total is enough to comfortably win the league, other times to come second. Yet by your logic, the higher points is the better season!

A few folks made this point during the season but they were drowned out by the adulation Spurs were receiving. Tottenham really need to realise that they achieved nothing this season, they just stood they ground basically whilst the most of the others backed off if you will. To dare is to do indeed.

Not better the season. But there have been 2nd placed teams in some seasons who were better teams than others who won the title in other seasons.

It's not completely relative to the season in terms of measuring progress. Staying in place while your rivals turns to shit being the difference between 3rd and 5th may make for a better season, but it doesn't necessarily mean they are doing a better job than the season before.

Spurs not only managed to finish 3nd in a two-horse - They also managed to hand Arsenal their highest finish in over a decade - Despite Arsenal being as awful as they have ever been.

Hahahahaha they really did finish below Arsenal somehow

As funny as this should be, I can't bring myself to laugh at another club right now. Look at us..

Glaston will be back soon, and as usual, he will always have to deflect anything negative about Spurs with a comment in regards to our season.

With Sherwood in charge Spurs finished the season with 69 points, they currently have 70 with one game to go.

Though hard to deny they have improved and they are a decent side. However imo they are looking a lot better than they actually are due to the unprecedented dip that all the big clubs have had.

So they finish the season with 69 points :D Even Tim Sherwood & AVB managed better points tally than this. Spurs won't get a better chance either, the so called big clubs will come back a lot stronger next season.

Not sure what's funnier. Arsenal only finishing 2nd despite finishing ahead of all the big teams or Spurs bottling second place

The result at West Ham :)

To me Spurs had good 2 months in mid December- mid February where they've won impressively 6 games in a row and given how inconsistent all teams bar Leicester were that put them into contention for the title. Even tho that excellent period they did managed to lose points in the 3 key games they had - against Everton and Leicester.

Ever since they had a shot for the title - after that good run, they've blew it against West Ham and won only 4 in the remaining 11 games, which of course is something they are pretty much known for.

All in all the had a solid season, but not so different from what they've been under Redknapp till now. The reason they came 3rd this time is due to the lack of consistency of the top sides with most of them posting pretty much their worst results in the last 5-6 years.

A good indication as well is their rather subpar results against the top 10 sides this year. They've drew 2 times against Arsenal, drew once and lost at home to Leicester. Won and lost against Soton, United, WHU. Drew two times against Chelsea and Pool.

The only sides they were pretty consistent against were City and probably Stoke, but still I think it was in the big games and especially in tight matches where they effectively lost the league.

Quite amusing seeing Arsenal fans suddenly cocky now that they've finished above Spurs

Absolutely hilarious seeing Spurs fans winding their necks in now that they've finished below Arsenal
