The Spurs thread

No, your league campaign is definitely much funnier than both of those things.
Our campaign was disastrous but we can only get better and will under Mourinho imo. Arsenal on the other hand, ruined their best chance at the premier league for 12 years. Now thats pretty funny.

Seriously, what the hell happened?!! HOW did they lose 5-1 to a relegated team? Against 10 men?!!!

They certainly managed to match the finale league position of Atletico Madrid! This similarities are just too many to seperate these two teams right now.

They let in THREE goals after having a one man advantage. Staggering:lol:

That's a really noteworthy trend.

So Leicester are the only team not to have utterly embarrassed themselves this season. Trendendous.

Everyone ruined their best chance at the Premier League for X years. Leicester won it.. so by default everyone who didn't could/should have done better. It was Bournemouth's best shot in 126 years! This line is being trotted out about Arsenal so much.. it's boring. It makes no sense.

At the end of the day, we finished 2nd. It's not what we wanted. But 5th (potentially, 6th) is not what United wanted. 4th is not what City wanted. Why are we the only team to get this 'best chance in _____' line? Because we're better than yous? It makes no sense, really.

How on earth did they manage to concede three when they were a man up against an already relegated side?

Jesus Christ. They managed to Spurs it up.

None of the above teams were first in January.

Arsenal fans can deflect all they like and laugh at Spurs expense, but it has been a disastrous season for them too.

A combination of things probably: the players knowing they've got CL secure regardless of the result and so having one eye on their forthcoming holidays + missing Alli and Dembele from midfield + Newcastle being free of pressure and wanting to impress Rafa into staying + just playing badly.

Anyhow, Pochettino had already said prior to the game that the squad's mentality is the biggest thing he wants to work on in the summer ... and how right he is.

Happy St Totteringham's Day, pal. Go and have a few beers to celebrate, won't ya?:lol:

We've secured the main aim for the season - CL qualification - so I'm not too bothered about the rest. But seeing as you are, you should maybe follow your own recommendation.

not sure you can work on mentally tbh, don't think spurs have it.

I never expected us to win the league (my posts all season echo that fact) so I'm coming at this discussion from a different angle. I'm not sure if you've seen Arsenal's defensive organisation as a unit.. but it tends to be poor at times. People who understand this know that we'll never win the league until it's fixed.. or we sign defenders so good that they can compensate for it. Neither of those look like happening until Wenger leaves.

With that said, we have enough attacking quality and flair that most teams at the moment just do not possess (Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Santi Cazorla are just three names that are better than any player most teams in this league have) to keep us near the top. The issue under Wenger is and always will be the same - our naive tactical set-up and poor tactical nous on the defensive end of the pitch.

So no, this season has not been disastrous.

Do you think United's season has been disastrous? More disastrous than Arsenal's? I'm interested in your football Richter scale. :smirk:

How does that sinking canoe feel glasto boy?

You mean the canoe that's paddled into the Champions League?

Speaking of "sinking", check out Chelski's league position - a drop of 9 places

I think it's because of this.

"All champions since United’s Treble season of 1998-99, when they totalled 79 points, have amassed 80 or more. Thirteen of those have been with 85 points or higher, five with 90 or more. The average points total for the champions, since the Premier League went to 20 teams in 1995, is 85.7."

Arsenal under Wenger
05-06 67
06-07 68
07-08 83
08-09 72
09-10 75
10-11 68
11-12 70
12-13 73
13-14 79
14-15 75
15-16 71
Average of 72.8

Mourinho's full seasons at Chelsea for comparision.

Wenger just doesn't seem to be able to get the required points anymore and with Guardiola at City and Mourinho at United I think it will be hard for Arsenal with Wenger. Conte seems to be a good league manager too judging from his 3 years at Juve. This season was a really good chance for Arsenal and they should have taken it.

@Attila And if Wenger leaves at the end of next year and we hire a manager such as Simeone.. does that mean that season will be our best chance? If United hire Mourinho, and don't win the league, have you messed up your best chance? Can you tell the future?

I'm sorry.. the whole debate seems stupid. Especially considering United haven't even hired Mourinho yet (and I welcome them to do so).

I also find the idea of United laughing at Chelsea earlier in the season, whilst now clamouring for the man who single-handedly put them there to be slightly demeaning for a club of your stature. Modern football, I guess.

It makes complete sense. United, Chelsea and City aren't starved for a league title for more than decade/multiple decades. Arsenal are.

Can we just use this thread to laugh at Spurs please,?

I predicted St Totteringham's day a few weeks ago. I called Spurs perennial bottlers a few weeks ago,and the Spurs fans were in uproar over it. I didn't even say it to wind anyone up. it's just the truth

For the record,Both United and Arsenal have had disappointing seasons. But thats three seasons on the trot were United have finished below you guys.
Our house is in even worse shape.

No but everyone can see the past and it has Arsenal nowhere near the league title for 12 years. You don't want to make the most of the years when you genuinely have a chance then that's fantastic, because those years seem to come along pretty rarely. It's like you really come close every year. You've been perennial 4th place battlers. So clearly you need whatever chances you get at the league title if you want to break the drought anytime soon.

This. Lets just all take the wee outa spurs.

I predicted the occurance of St. Tottringham's after the Chelsea draw as well.

Indeed.

Head in the sand stuff here
It's weird. You'd think Arsenal have been in every title challenge till the final day for every single one of the last 12 seasons. They've barely even looked like a title winning side in this period. So they obviously need to make the most of the year when top teams are wank

The comment you quoted before said you missed your best chance in 12 years. Talking about the past with Wenger when he has to compete with manager's who can rack up these high totals which he struggles to do anymore. This season he didn't have that. He was against Ranieri and Pochetinno. So it's understandable people think he ruined his best chance in years to do it.

If you get Simeone well done but for now it seems like Wenger is here for next season and who knows how many more after that. And while he's at Arsenal I don't think he's ever going to manage to win a title over the likes of Guardiola and Mourinho. His record against the latter is ridiculous as well

Over the past decade at least, both Tottenham and Arsenal are outside the group at the top considered true title contenders. The three of Us, City and Chelsea have pretty much swept up.

So when those three teams have poor seasons, the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham are next in line to really push for the title. The fact they've still failed is the funny thing here

I had a bet with two mates, I was telling them Tottenham would not finish ahead of Arsenal for the next 20 years. Really thought I'd owe them money for the first time this season but Spurs boys never disappoint me.

Surely given how the season went, but in the beginning of the season many Arsenal fans liked the idea of getting that 2nd spot.

Pure Bull. Arsenal were top at Christmas and had a very settled team and strengthen with Cech. United made the wrong appointment with LVG so that was our fault. Ye haven't won the title in 12 years because United, City and Chelsea have been better than ye. The one year, they are all worse, ye stll can't win it. Arsenal wont be winning it anytime soon with Pep, Conte and hopefully Mourinho joining the league.

Sometimes I wonder if people actually read my posts before quoting.

Anyway, back to laughing at Spurs.

:lol::lol:

At the start of the season United had 'a better manager than Arsenal, better squad than Arsenal,' after having spent much more in the market than Arsenal too. Those were the sentiments on here.

Yes, our season is a relative failure. Though I doubt many Gooners would have tipped us to take out the league after not strengthening in key areas that have been neglected for so long. However the biggest/richest clubs in the league spent the most money yet again, and all three are behind us in league position. How relative is each failure?

I Disagree. I certainly wasn't overly optimistic. Well for United, we spent money we earned and are still earning so don't see the problem there. Plenty of Arsenal fans crying that they don't spend enough.
